- Islamically there is an obligation on all of us to take care of those in need and to assist, help and comfort them to the best of our ability. If your wife is the only child then it becomes a great duty and act of charity to help and treat your mother in law like you would treat your mother.
Legally and culturally she is not your mother but the reward of the good you do is immense. The inlaws of Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ were the ones nearest to him.

I love my mother. And taking care of her is a privilege. Wile my siblings are living their lives. I am watching mothers back all day long. 🇨🇦
You are doing a great duty and obligation. May Allah watch over you and your mother and bless you immensely for this - ameen!
You seem prideful. You are not better than them. They may have wives, husbands, children, and work that occupy their time. Or may be they just want to enjoy their health and youth. Don't brag on the supposed good you do.
In south asian countries many Mawlanas dont even talk about how a man should treat his mother in law. All of them are always about girls in laws and this and that.
Jazaak Allahu khayr👍🕋nice speech👌🌹🍃barak Allahu feekum😀☝
Ma shaa Allah, very informative. Jazakallah Khair.
so its not a requirement actually
I'm a firm believer that religion should not be followed when it comes to caretaking
