I have been using the r8 for astrophotography - not having the extra weight of IBIS is actually super handy when it's sitting on an astro tracker.
The fact it can shoot clog3 is also awesome.
Fun fact - you can use it as a usb web cam by changing a setting too... I think they were kinda interested in vloggers with this (though leaving out IBIS is silly in that case haha)
Hey Pierre, I've been using this camera for the last 6-7 Months and I'm Impressed with the output of the camera. I'm using it for photos and videos both... Mostly Industrial and product photography/videography. The sensor and processor are same as R6 MII so it gives better quality compared to Price to product quality ratio. I use DJI RS3 for stable video shoots so IDC abt IBIS! YES! The only disadvantage is the small battery life... Bought 2 additional batteries for that. If I want to upgrade from R8 I'll wait for a better camera than R6 MII. This is just a review from my side.
This is the camera I want (once the budget is here) to step up from my APSC. Compactness and light weight are key to me. Thanks for the review. Merci Pierre.
great job Pierre, every body give opinions or pure tech review but you give us reall life and in live review thx for all
I got my r8 roughly a week ago and so far I love it, when running it with the 50 1.8 from cannon it is such a small super capable package
I’m thinking getting one for the holidays
I hope canon comes out with an rf of that 40mm 2.8 pancake we had on the EF mount. That would be so sweet with the R8
We want pancakes! :) I want a 28mm as well!
@@M4Y0_ it just came out
Canon just announced the 28mm 2.8 pancake. Hopefully it has decent image quality. Will make a killer street combo on the R8. Hopefully we get that 40 mm too!
@@frankluo230 So cool, let's hope it's good!
@@Aiproductions713 I hope the RF 28mm is good. The RF 24mm didn't get good reviews unfortunately.
I preordered it, now let's wait for some proper reviews.
Thank you so much Pierre, I gained a lot of information from your video, very useful review! God bless you and good luck!
Great video. Loved that moment when you asked the gentleman to take his photo. Awesome review. I just swapped my EOSR for an R8 today. Looking forward to 4k without the crop.
@pierretlambert are some fantastic shots on a kit lens great job; keep the excellent content coming :D
Your review made me subscribe. Great work!
Hi Pierre, What a nice Compact Camera, especially for a Full Frame. It's good how you can tap from one subject to another, very useful feature to have. Wow 461g weight is good especially if you're shooting for hours. For me i don't mind that It only has one Memory card slot. Love those colours they really pop, the one where those people walked past. The Cityscape buildings were nice. I also liked that photo with the leading Lines, leading towards that building. Always love the videos you make in America, Many thanks, Gnarly.
very nice camera
i like your videos. Learning alot from you as a beginner
+1 for your style of asking the dude to take his photo. That's the way to do it. Great video.
Bought the camera a few weeks ago and really love it. Had an M50 before that and its obviously a huge upgrade.
2 months later and what's your short review as a previous M50 owner? I'm on the M50 right now and obsessed with the idea of upgrading to this
@@dulogames Its fantastic. Have shot like 20k pictures with it already with mostly a 70-200mm lens and an 85mm. The camera is great - on hot days it gets close to overheating though. I am happy with it so far
@@PulpDoggwhat’s something you miss from the M50 moving to this? Like the other guy I have the m50mkii and I’m looking at this or the r/rp
@@Taywi So, kind of funny… believe it or not, I’ve had them all. The M50mkII was my first camera. I used an EF adapter Viltrox speed booster. This was an awesome combination, but I wanted more.
So I bought the RP. I do think the RP is better than the M50, but it wasn’t quite the upgrade I expected. I wanted something even better especially for low light. So I upgraded again to the R. The R was an absolutely fantastic camera. It checked all my boxes. I unfortunately ran into some financial trouble and had to sell all my gear.
I recently found myself in a better spot, and thought about buying the R again… then I saw the R8 😍. The R8 gives me everything the R did, plus an amazing auto focus system. The only thing I miss is the extra megapixels and bigger battery.
@@PulpDogg It gets close to overheating taking photos on hot days??
I take photos for fun and got the R8 a few days ago upgrading from my T7. I am really happy with it.
Ah yes must be an amazing upgrade !
I'm also looking to upgrade from the Rebel T6... it's either the Sony FX30 or the R8. I can't decide.
@@antoniomendez2881 if you want 3rd party great lenses for cheaper go for Sony for now. Canon still hasn't opened their mounts to Sigma Tamron etc. If you have L lenses already maybe stick with Canon... but then you'll need RF L at some point...
@@antoniomendez2881 R8 !!!!
Hi Pierre, coming over from the CC360 Q&A Call! Awsome channel you have here. I'm on my world travel since 2015 aswell!!! Awsome content you have! Let me know if you ever have questions about Vanlife and DaVinci Resolve for iPad :-P cheers Daniel
Great Video! 😎👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The X100V killer 🔥
You should test the RF28-70 F2 lens. Bulky, heavy, amazing.
I think this would be a good camera for travel
Hello, beautiful review of the Canon R8.. Lots of Great DETAIL
I have it arriving in the mail shortly..
CAN i Ask you which is the camera you have around your neck recording the whole action..? I like it a lot.. It must be a very expensive camera.. 😅😊
great info. curious if I shoot video in c-log, it records it as h.265 (hevc) format. does canon has any utilities and best practices to convert this to h.264 and target bitrates to set for the same? pls guide if you can.
BRO this is hands down the best video on the canon r8 im thinking about getting this over the sony a7III. WOW gives me a good perspective on what it's like to own and operate one
I HAVE R8 AND ITS MUCH BETTER THAN SONY ^) Caps - off ))
@@Dmitrii_88 R8 is better than Sony a7iii? How?
From where did you get the skin and lens hood for 50mm lens shown in your thumbnail? Please share the link in comment.
Thank you for this video.can you help me? Which camera's autofocus is better? Canon r8 or sony a6700?
I like that the R10 has a joystick, incredibly low in the range for that, which is awesome.
The R8 seems to have great image quality, but entry-level ergonomics, compared to the more pro ones, on the R6 II, but almost identical AF and image quality.
Joystick for what? You have a great tracking in servo mode and AF touch control in single shot. Both much quicker than using joystick.
I'm still stuck with using a Canon DSLR. So I'm perfectly fine without a fancy joystick.
@@ondrasheq21 For weather like in this video you can use the touch screen but when its really cold the joystick can save some shots. Im not taking my gloves off in -30C.
What is the orange and black 50mm lens shown in the thumbnail called?
Canon had that touch and drag in the m50 back in 2017
What is the 50mm with the grip and red hood? Thanks
You need to do a review on that GDU Lenses !
I've been loving mine! I just need that 85mm Macro lens!
and if you were to decide between R8 and Sony A7 III? thanks
Hello . Canon r8 + ef rf adapter+ tamron 24-70 f2.8 g2 + canon ex 430 Speedlite?
will the mount hold it?
and grip camera R8 ?
I dont mind the one card slot as much as where it is, in the battery compartlemt. Same with my a6400 and it's not convenient.
Where did the red lens hood come from? Was it a lens hood or part of the lens?
Hi, Pierre, wich skin you put on the 50mm???
Wait, what did you do with you 50mm 1.8? I dont recognize it o.o I am confused haha
What device u used for the BTS??
Is that a skin on your lens? (The one with an orange hood) you mind sharing a link?
On a budget get the used Canon RP - exact same body, little less features but great performance still. Plus RF 28 2.8 STM for street.
Can't wait for you to try out the Nikon Z9 for streets!
I will very likely swap from my entry level Canon M50 to the R8. Same batteries btw! Similar weight and size: perfect for travelling and every day photography.
Not quite the same battery, just so you know going in. The M50 takes the lp-e12, and the R8 takes the lp-e17, same as the RP. Hope this helps prepare you before finding out the hard way.
When can i follow the course?
10:32 i see wonderful HDRI effect after editing.keeping details even at shadow.did you shoot at RAW format?
Great
try to choose a sunny day for test footages next time
How did you make the lens like that? The 50 I meant
Haha you learn something new everyday even pierre learnt something new about the touch focus on Sony 😂😂
😅😅
I learned photography on my phone a handful of years ago.& then this past Thanksgiving, I was gifted the Canon Rebel T6.& used it for a few months before deciding to invest in this camera- the Canon R8. I do all sorts of photography, so I have a 50mm f/1.8, 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6.& a 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens. I couldn't ask for a better set up as someone who's still a beginner when it comes to legit cameras.& working with manual settings. I feel like the R8 is super intuitive, it was mildly depressing when I had to send it to Canon for repair because the latest firmware update messed with the autofocus, so I went back to my Rebel T6 for about a weeks time.& it just wasn't the same😭
Hi, just got a new Canon R8 body, and on setting up I am facing several issues. Please help.
I am using the Canon R8 with a Viltrox adaptor and Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 and Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 lens. Below are the issues:
1. While trying to set 'Image Quality', the image size is showing as 3744x2496 instead of 6000x4000 for both Raw and JPEG.
2. Under JPEG, only L and S2 are enabled, with rest of the options like M and S1 disabled for selection and grayed out.
3. Under 'Cropping/aspect ratio' only 1.6 (1.6x crop) is available for selection. Rest of the options (Full, 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9) are disabled for selection and grayed out. This issue is only when the Sigma lens is on.
4. On selecting 'Cropping/aspect ratio' as Full with the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 lens on, I am getting heavy vignetting both from the EVF and LCD, as well as in the Image. This goes away after I zoom 15mm.
Focus point touch screen is the same as the eos RP
The shutter sound is pretty much the same as the RP.
The shutter of the first R6 sound better and more confident than the RP
Where to get that lens/skin on thumbnail?
Is the canon R8 better than the Sony a6400 ? Looking at these two cameras, but not sure which is better ?
nice cam
WHich is better Sony a7c or Canon R8 to buy ?
Absolutely beautiful photo work as usual Pierre.
Really loving how the R7 and R8 have been performing in the past few weeks and months. Definitely going to get it as another back up for my students in the future.
That 50 1.8 looks supercool and now I want to know where thst skin came from... If it is a skin👀👀👀
It’s a « GDU » lens :)
@@Pierretlambert ooo. Thank you thank you looking for that now
It's basically a rehoused RF 50 f/1.8. Very expensive.
@@marximus4 I just saw it a few hours ago. I know what you mean. When I first saw that the beginning of the video I thought it was exactly that but I still wanted to get the name. Now I got a couple of ideas of how to modify my own lenses at least cosmetically
what that outside the 50mm lenses
The AF touch screen adjustment is been on canon camera since Canon EOS R.
Very nice 🎉🎉
What’s the exact 50mm you have on the thumbnail, it looks awesome
« Gud »
How do you all got your R8's already??? Im from Germany and apparently we are getting it in July :((
Where is the global dynamics lens?
Where’s the red lens from your video image??
Hi Pierre, what 50mm are you using? I have never seen it before
It’s a « GDU » model :) built for cinema cameras using RF basically
What’s that 50mm?
I want to run around Chicago and photo explore with you! I only live about 45minutes away! My wife and I will be out there May 5th for a Half Alive concert at the House of Blues!
Hi Pierre...i want to know which Lens is best for sony a7iv for product and lifestyle photography and videography. Please do let me know... I'm really confused mate😢.
35-f1.8
Hey, Im thinking of getting this one... Still undecided whether to get Sony a7 III or Canon R8. Any advice is good. I use curently Canon 250d (rebel sl3)
Which one did you buy and why?
For street photography or anywhere you don't need to raise the ISO, I prefer the EOS R over the R8. As for indoor photography without speedlight or for photographing animals, the R8 does better because of the new sensor. I always use 600EX II-RT on my EOS R with ISO 50. That's why I still keep my EOS R. I don't usually use ISO above 100. But when I switch, I'll go for an R5.
What is this Lense?
Hi, I am inclining with the Sony A7C for a hybrid travel compact camera instead of the R8. I will be starting from scratch (buying body only). Any feedback?
Definitely a wider choice of lenses on the E mount. Sony, Sigma, a bunch of other third party lenses. I shoot with an A7III and I would definitely get the A7C as a backup and travel body.
@@IliaUsmanov Thank you! Appreciate your feedback.
Sony has horrible flesh tone rendering and is a handful to edit.
The Canon color science is the benchmark by which all others are judged 😊
What is the lens you’re using that’s pictured on the cover pic for this video?
Canon rf50mm
I had a Nikon D750 and several lenses/flash gear. I have a professional level of knowledge but don't get time to shoot much. Part of the reason I don't shoot much is that the Nikon ecosystem isn't enjoyable or intuitive for me. The Canon is. I would've preferred the R6, and couldn't agree more about the satisfaction of the shutter sound. The R8 is so weak compared to the R6. And I think the focusing on the R6 is slightly better, and is likely psychological for me, due to the shutter sound.
I didn't need IBIS or a larger battery.. but I did need to be able to travel light and compact. This camera replaced 2 bodies for me; the D750 (FF) and a D5500 (APS-C) and went from 15 lbs of glass to about 5 lbs. By that I mean I was able to consolidate a prime 20, 50, zoom, major telephoto, etc. into a 24-240 and a 600. 1 body, 2 lenses, and a flash are all I need to travel now.
I also bought the RF 100/2.8 for portraits and macro photography. I haven't a lot of time with it yet. But so far, every lens has been crisp and more importantly, light and fun to use.
I think the "fun to use" factor is overlooked with cameras lately. To me Sony and Nikon are the least enjoyable to shoot but just get a little better micro-detail and sharpness than Canon.. Not enough to be worth the thought required to get the shot. That might be the opposite for some... where people think Nikon or Sony have easy to use manuals.. IDK.. but not for me.
The person the R8 is for, is me... someone that has a lot of experience/knowledge in photography but wants something light and compact that focuses fast and well.
You didn't go into it, but the C1 and C2 positions on the dial are great to have...
Oh, and use the Fv mode, holy crap that is awesome... it's like super-fast manual mode blended with Program mode.. it's the basis for my C1 and C2 settings.
Love this camera system.
Thanks for the in depth hands on experience. You described me as well so this helps!
No IBIS and Bad Battery killed it for me, sadly. Oh and the mich to expensive Lenses, so im sticking with sony
I clicked on this because the lens in the thumbnail looked cool, but the link in the description titled “the lens I used” takes me to a Sony 70-200 lens.
Does anyone know anything about the 50mm prime he used?
i sold my sony a7 IV for this camera. And im rly rly happy with the R8
r7 for me, until r6 mk2 price drops or maybe canon release another full frame body.
price isnt dropping when they have the canon r6, mark 1.
R8 looks like a great camera, only it’s £1700 in the uk. So I think it will stay on the shelf in some shops!
(2018) Canon m50 has the same touch screen focus thing...
What 50 is that in the thumbnail????
💕
Hi , just asking😅 what is the thing hanging from the camera like a red button
It is the attachment for the peak design strap
@@danielhenzphotography cool thanks :) been seeing these a lot , was curious
This camera is a beast! It’s a real upgrade from my cropped sensor a6400 sony camera.
I have it 6400 with fckn 18-135 F3.5-5,6 a crappy combination, so that i ended using my 13 years old nikon D5100 which still takes decent photos but aged AF. So WHICH LENS DID U BUY???
Your fuzzy sweater is triggering my OCD 🤪lol!
Jk, great video.

YES! As an insecure person I feel very happy when a person on youtube uses same brand of consumer electronics as myself. It makes me feel validated. Please tell me you are using shoes from Adidas? I just bought some.
Haha yes the ultra boost from Addidas! I thinks 2020 model but all have been great to my feet and last looooong compared to Nike!
@@Pierretlambert I couldn't agree more! Those Nike users are just the worst. It is like they don't even know that Adidas is THE BEST!
I can't wait until the next model drops. I will run out and buy it IMMEDIATELY. Maybe even buy a custom shoe box so everybody can see I am not a noob!
@@realthoprivate Sarcasm doesn't translate well on CZcams.
The only reason that stops me from buying the R8 is the LP-e17 battery, I used it on the T7i and it is an awful battery compared to the best they have, the LP-E6Nh.
Maybe you didn’t realise but the finger tracking on the screen while looking at the viewfinder is also on the R6 .
It has been on EOS cameras since ages. My EOS M50 MK I even has it.
Yea it is! :)
I usually just use the joystick but there isn’t one here
I found the joystick better as I sometimes activate it with my nose, … maybe it is too big 😂
I wan’t to go photo with you but i don’t have camera😢
2 CANON vids back 2 back. HE GOTTA BE PAID lmaoooo
@Rodrigo 😐 u can’t tell a joke? I literally shoot canon.
Yes 100,000,00,000 dollars 💸 😂😂
Haha we know. Jokes aside I’d mention it if I ever was paid for these like I do with sponsored videos ❤️
The screen toouch pad feature existed on my Lumix G7 in 2017 lol Not a new thing. Good job on Canon catching up to their mirrorless competitors.
"i like to hold the camera with one finger " umm Okay Chief ..
do you like to juggle cameras too ?
one finger review
This makes me actually want to switch from Sony
