    SOMETHING I FORGOT TO MENTION: I have a space blanket in the Hill People Gear Kit Bag. I should probably add another one here as two is one, one is none. Also I don't carry things like electrolytes, caffeine pills, firestarters or gear repair items in my first aid kit. I see these things popping up every now and then on people's medical kit videos and lists, but personally I don't see much sense mixing those with actual first aid equipment. I have a separate repair kit, multiple separate fire starters, and electrolytes/caffeine go with my food items.

      I would add Osmosal to that kit. Good combo with Imodium. Yes, it's a electrolyte mixture, but not for everyday use like sportdrinks.

      Seems to come in handy packages too. Thanks I'll pick some up 👍

    Nice video! Here are some observations from me... mayby you can at a swatTourniquet, can always be helpfull to have another tourniquet and this one doesnt take to much space.
    You can buy the isobetadine in little flacons.... ready to use.... its easier and compacter.
    For burnwounds i would go for something thats called burnshield... its a dressing mixed with something that helps against burnwounds and its compacter.
    Mayby ad a desposable coldpack... not that i have it, but im concidering to use it myself ;)
    Change the little bandage for little cutwounds in one thats bigger that you can cut to size, its very enoying when your in the field and you dont have the right size.... also ad a traumasheer... better for cutting clothes and bandages...
    Alcoholwipes are easy for cleaning the feet when you wanna put a compeed on the blister, helps to stick better. Also handy to clean medical sheer and pincet after use...
    Dont forget eyewash, you can ad little ampulls in the kit, comes always in handy, you never know when something hits in the eye.
    An emergency blanket can come in handy. And a sharpypen, for when using the tourniquet put on the time... its always handy for emergency services... but thats mayby in youre traumakit.
    Im going to at the lipstick to my kit, didnt think about that, also the first aid little book is very usefull! Really like that. And a samsplint. Will be looking for that as well.
    Looking forward to a next video!

      Thanks for the input! Here are my answers/notes:
      - I have to see if other forms of povidone-iodine in available in Finland, this is certainly one of the bulkiest things in this kit
      - I have burnshield in my car kit, but being "patches" they're not quite as versatile as gel
      - I've struggled to find something small enough and then again I wonder if small one is even worth carrying
      - Yes a bigger bandage that can be cut to size would be better, but honestly we just have so many random packages of bandaids around the house that I don't want to get more 😅
      - trauma shears for cutting clothes is something I have in my chest rig, but probably wont be adding to this one. Seems a bit less likely to need to be used and current ones can cut anything but clothes much more conveniently
      - I've had alcohol wipes in the past, but they tend to dry out before they're needed, hence why I switched to hand sanitizer
      - Good call about the eyewash, I'll have to see if that would be plausible during summer time (as they freeze during winter). My #1 eye care item is my compass since it has a mirror!
      - Space blanket and a sharpie are in my Hill People Gear Kit Bag, I forgot to mention about this in the video. Although another space blanket wouldn't take a lot of room from this kit so I might add one.
      Thanks again 👍

    Thanks Joel, I know it's been awhile you've done this video. Did watch it back then but I'm now in the market of recreating new IFAK for myself, and rewatched it again. Looking for slight smaller set up but otherwise the content what I have planned is pretty much similar to yours. One thing which is concerning me in general is waterproofness of the pouch. Yes, I realise that everything is packed in plastic bags... but I'm living in Finland...and you well know, that wetness is a norm... So in other words, what pouch to choose that is at the same time durable but also waterproof. Also, if you have any recommendations any additional items that should be included in the IFAK as it will be carried not only in backpacking but also in hunting and range shooting situations. Please let me know what is your take to these. Good job once again, many thanks!

      Good questions! I did look a while for a waterproof pouch, but I found only a couple and none of them matched internally to what I was looking for. Therefore I have all essential items in ziplock bags and if it starts raining properly, then I'll have my poncho on which covers this pouch as well. For hunting/range, I'd add the usual stuff like a tourniquet (one is enough for this use case). The compressed gauze I have in this kit is just as good as QuikClot and other hemostatic dressings, but for the fraction of the price and longer shelf life.

    I have the Condor EMT pouch that that one was likely based off of. Your old one was the EMT lite I think. It alternates between my car or used when hiking. Nicely thought out kit. I have the CAT attached to the outside at the moment in a Condor flashbang holder. Sadly that field guide booklet is out of print. I remember trying to find it on Amazon.

      You have a sharp eye, indeed my old one was Condor Rip-Away EMT Lite. We got one of those field guides as a part of the training course and I bought a second one while there as well. That one is with my car kit. It should be water proof or resistant as well, which is nice.

    Your first aid kit is very big. About twice the size of the kit I took into combat in the 80s. Are you carrying for a group?

    • @TaivalOutdoors
      @TaivalOutdoors  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes this is bigger than my IFAK for sure. I'm usually responsible for first aid for my hiking group whether it's friends or family. So while they might carry their own bandaids and such, I have a bit more extensive capabilities.

    Couple of things that i noticed...
    You didn't mention the orange side of that sleeve. High vis item, that every one should have for rescuing purposes.
    And with that to my second thing. I have my high vis item in my space blanket. I guess you have it also some where. Maybe with your sleeping kit?

    • @TaivalOutdoors
      @TaivalOutdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      Good observations. Yes indeed I cover the purpose of that orange side in the video where I make that sleeve and I have a dedicated video for active/passive signaling. I have a space blanket in my Hill People Gear Kit Bag so it's always with me even if I'd be separated from my first aid kit. Probably wouldn't hurt to throw another one inside this pouch too.

    Hieno video jälleen ja sattui vielä sopivaan ajankohtaan kun itsellä on juuri suunnitteilla henkilökohtaisen ensiapulaukun kasaaminen syksyn hirvijahtiin. Yksi mikä näytti puuttuvan ja mitä olen itse miettinyt olisi hemostaattiside. Oletko itse miettinyt sen lisäämistä mukaan pakkaukseen? Kalliita tosin ovat.

    • @TaivalOutdoors
      @TaivalOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      Hemostaatit ovat kalliita ja niissä tulee päiväykset nopeasti vastaan, niin en ole nähnyt järkeä niiden laittamisessa tähän pakettiin. Tuo compressed gauze ajaa täsmälleen saman asian ollen paljon halvempi ja pienempi myös. Hemostaattisiteet voivat olla enemmän paikallaan kun aseiden kanssa liikutaan, mutta ymmärrykseni on se, että ne eivät ole lopulta merkittävästi parempia kuin reiän täyttäminen eli paineen luominen perus siteellä.
