You made the problem very clear when you let him turn into that byway. I could see his head going right and left constantly assessing his chances, so he is still far from safe. He'd walk all over a novice driver. A sweetheart though no less dangerous for that. Please be careful, Barry.

      Yes,
some have a bigger head and willfulness
      than many people think.
And I guess that the best horses get bored
pulling a carriage on the road,
which is now built for cars.
Maybe driving on a bad dirt road will help for a change.
Maybe it's also confused because the coachman and trainer talk more to
      In`Nowhere than to him.

@Mitmacher I can believe it. That's why you make a great riding horse out of those sorts. Make them Calm, Confident and Happy in any job ypu put them too. My old mare, she's gone now, I had her from a weanling, until 27 years old, she was a Percheron/Thoroughbred cross. And she looked more the Thoroughbred type but had great bone and hooves. She loved jumping and swimming. And opening gates!! She was my female Houdini!! LOL 🤣 I had to chase her down 4 fields by road, ask a farmer if I could jump in the river ahead of her, and put a rope halter that I made on the fly on her. Then up the bank of the farmers field, and ride her back to our barn. Thank goodness it was summer!! My friend who drove me to the farm, stayed behind us with her hazard lights on, and I rode her on the shoulder of the road. We had to make sure there was always a clip on the gate leading to the river after that. She was 3 years old and had just been backed. She had maybe 3 rides on her when she did this, by the way!! Hmm...I wonder why? LOL 🤣 Best Regards from a Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦

    Horses are very different
    like men.:
Horses and:Collision of feelings or of responsibilities.
    My horse Stubborn ran away,
along with 2 of 5 horses,
when a man with a large black dog suddenly appeared.
The others couldn't find their way out of the forecourt.
    A minute later,
when Stubborn noticed that 2 horses were missing,
he was already on his way back
    at a fast, determined trot,
1m behind him on the left and right,
    the other two horses,

Best advice is to build up trip distance steadily with lots of walking and breaks where needed. If you can get your horse out daily, great! If not, make allowances for that. Some horses have a higher natural level of fitness - or at least return to fitness quicker than others, so make sure you know your individual horse. A good thing to do is to count your horse's respiration rate (breaths) over 15 seconds when stationary after. exercise. After reasonable exercise (i.e. trotting a fair while) 20-30 breaths in 15 seconds is good. 20-30 breaths in 15 seconds may be normal for your horse, or getting high. 40+ and the horse needs to rest and further exercise needs to be scaled back until they are fitter. In this clip Silver looks to be around 26-27 breaths per 15 seconds, which was normal for him. Knowing your horse's norm can really help you when you're getting them fitter. Also important to note is recovery rate - if your horse has 35 breaths / 15 seconds and is still breathing that fast after 10minutes, it is very different to a horse doing the same but having returned to normal resting rate or near that, in say just 5 minutes.

I think you experience the best with one of the best horses,
    if you "marry" it,
    what means,
only with him and spending most of your time day after day.
The best ones don't want to share you with others
or don't accept it if you only have 2 hours for your horse every
    now and then.
"It brings your shoes to your bed" in the morning,
just that you get up soon and have time for it,
brush its fur, it hears your voice again and "

    ready for new adventures together.

Silver had been slowly conditioned throughout his training to be able to cope with this level of work. Given that he would stop like this within 100m from the yard, the problem was behavioural, not related to fitness.. He is breathing is fine in this video, when taking into account the distance, weather and Silver's fitness - Rhi keeps a close eye and knows what each horse's individual norm is within a couple of weeks of training. Another factor increasing Silver's breathing rate is his mental state - he is frustrated and possibly a bit anxious at not being able to 'get away with' his usual trick of stopping or spinning around. Both of which will increase respiration rate. Unfortunately in order to solve the problem, we do have to put him through this process. Thank-you for your concern, though.

    horses like dogs are existentialists,
So they are essentially concerned with ensuring their survival.
Dogs are in their element and do their best when they are hunting or guarding a property,

      Novella
»Helmut and Sabrina Halm have always managed vacations of lazy privacy in their favourite retreat on Germany’s Lake Constance. So when the energetic, handsome Klaus Buch turns up with his beautiful wife Hella, Helmut is quite ready to dismiss this dimly familiar acquaintance. But Klaus is overjoyed to recognise his old schoolmate Helmut, eager to recall every incident of their shared childhood, and to display every detail of his successful lifestyle as a thoroughly emancipated, thoroughly fit, author and environmental expert. The precious days of privacy give way to an unwanted and awkward intimacy, as the Buchs and Halms hike, dine and sail together. Their joint activities aggravate myriad psychological tensions among the four characters, which are all the more intensely ironic for their peaceful veneer, and which must eventually erupt. […] Runaway Horse is an extraordinary novella, that comprises at once the concision and wit of s short story and the grace, narrative intrigue and psychological complexity of a longer novel.«

      The education of money
      then spirit
      we have this days.
      And here we are,
preferring dogs and horses as the babies we train.
Toys and the TV and the Smartphone...
doesn't work as good on animals.
      So they need us,
especially because of the adults' playground,
      the Motor Cabin Carriage Street,
      the car-movers playground.
      It would almost be playful
      without this playground.
      So playing adults
      are destructiv.
      They are not traint well,
      see above.
