Part 10 of the campervan refurb and rebuild of a 1993 Talbot Express Autosleeper Symphony.
With things moving on, it's time to get some cleaning done. The windows have plant life in them, the fridge is dirty, as is the back panels. The carpets also need a good old clean as there's 30 years of grime in this campervan.
But unfortunately, we discover something that's going to set us back. The floor is completely rotten in the campervan.

I have said it before and I will say it again, the attention to the detail on those side windows has really paid off. Rarely do people pay attention to all the green moss on these types of vehicles, but that bit of work makes it look a different campervan.. That sawdust floor looks very familiar to the floor we had in the motorhome 😊 It does make you wonder how people can continue to use campervans with a floor that is that bad, that must have been crunching underfoot.. The before and after video clips for the inside of the fridge are world’s apart! Lovely job on the internal clean up Helen, that now looks like new.
Thanks John. The windows had to come out, it was just too gross and revolting with all that stuff growing in there. The floor did feel like it had some soft bits, but it was much worse than we were expecting it to be. We wouldn't have seen it if it wasn't for the diesel heater going in.
Ohh those windows! It must have been so satisfying to get all that greenery out....my kind of job 😄. They were absolutely sparkling like new.
Good to see Nookie as hadn't seen him for a while 🐕
They were certainly gross, that's for sure. Couldn't stand all that greenery in there lol. It was like a terrarium!
@@roaminginraymond 😆😆
Doing a great job Karl ,👍
Thanks.
Doing a cracking job, lovely people. Good to see Nookie. All the best. 👍🐾🚐🐾😎
Thanks so much Rob. Yes, always lovely to see our beautiful boy on camera.😊🐾
All looking Good and your sorting it All, Fridge cover also looks Great , Keep up the Great work .And Hello nooks ,🐶,
Thanks Paul and Nook said Woof.😊🐕
Ahh noo, sorry about the floor, what a nuisance! That aside, it’s really taking shape & beginning to look like a lovely space to be in. Em 💜
Thanks Em. Yeah, a right pain in the butt as it put is back a few days, but it's getting there and not long to go now.😊
It will all be worth it in the end. It’s taking shape bit by bit. Shame about the floor but at least you’ve spotted it in time
Yeah good job he was hiding fitments under the carpet and found out how bad the floor really was.
Sorry same comment as before - your doing a great job getting behind and below the surfaces all of that will pay off in the long run as you know how it all fits together - well done
Thanks very much. At least uncovering these things means it's all getting done properly.
Wow, that camper was in a right state.
I know. I knew it felt a bit soft but we didn't realise how bad til it got pulled back for some piping to go under.
@@roaminginraymond your doing a great job.
Thanks Trevor. Really appreciate the encouraging words.😊
@@roaminginraymond 👍
You’re really bringing the van back to it’s former glory, albeit one step forward and three back! You’ll soon be planning your maiden voyage x
Thanks Louise. It was a set back, but least we know it's all sorted properly now. We both can't wait for it to be finished now. It's been knackering.
I don’t doubt it’s been knackering, but you can be satisfied that everything has been done. I clean for a living and it’s getting harder now!
Definitely agree there. It's knackering but when you see things completed it's worth while. Felt the same I had the house. We did loads in there and it looked great after. Nice when hard work pays off.😊
Very well said. Houses are hard work. I wonder if perhaps one day soon, I may do the same as you! Very best of luck with the remainder of the refurb. Xx
Thanks Louise.😊
Loving the mini greenhouse!!!!!!
Looks like crushed up dried weetabix under that carpet!
Coming along nicely!
Xxxx
I know. We'd have blended in at Kew Gardens lol. Yep, weetabix floor is a very good description Ju.😢
Shame about the floor, but it’s going to be a really nice van when it is finished, lots of exciting trips ahead, take care guys 🙏👍👊🚌
Thanks very much. I said the floor didn't feel right but least it's sorted now. Didn't expect it to be that bad though. Just shows you never know what's lurking without a proper look.
@@roaminginraymond very true, trouble is you don’t get the time to look all over when viewing it..🚌👍
Well MR B is doing a fantastic job your van will be beautiful when finished it will be like a new one
He is doing a great job.😊
I cannot believe what a detailed job you B’s are doing to this camper a big UP to the both of you
Thank you so much Peter. Really appreciate the kind words.
I am sure Karl will get it fixed. But it looks total mess. It must have occupied your mind and time!! Well done though taking such courageous attempt.
Thanks very much. Yes there's been some set backs but Karl can sort most stuff luckily.
Doing a great job there, it will be like a new van when its finished.
Thank you so much Mary. Had a really rubbish day today with nothing going to plan, but tomorrow's another day.
@@roaminginraymond Keep your chin up x
Thanks Mary, I will.🥰
Well done both, despite some surprises along the way the van is really taking shape now. Can't wait to see it finished ❤x
Thanks very much. We've had some things put us behind, but all we can do is carry on.😊
Fabulous shares new friend 🦋✨🫶💫🕊️🦋✨🫶💫🕊️
Thanks.
Helen was not sure about the window at first 😂😂
Nooky is scared you are heading off without him.
I agree no point doing half a job. I hope you have no more surprises waiting.
We hope we don't get anymore surprises too lol.
Have you both ever considered buying motorhomes and refurbished them and resell I think you both will do amazing love watching you both big this van back to life
No way unfortunately. Karl's hands are riddled with arthritis and I'm arthritic in places too. We enjoy the challenge and I enjoy the design side, but we like to travel and this is the longest we've been stationary in 4 years. But thank you for the lovely kind words and we're really glad you're enjoying watching the videos.😊
Brilliant job Karl all my windows could do with that treatment including new runners m8 was it expensive to replace them Karl. Take care my lovelys 😉
He didn't replace the runners Charlie, they were just cleaned and put back. The only stuff replaced was the trim covering the screws.
@@roaminginraymond no worries 👍 😉 👌
I’m sure the rotten wood is normal for age of van, don’t look like it’s going to cost a fortune to replace, then be good for many years.
Yeah exactly. I said it felt spongy in places. People have said use Marine Plywood but that's well expensive, so we've used something different.
It will be worth about £8,000 when you have finished doing such a good job on it
Thanks Steve. Hope so, although there's no plans to sell it.
Karl, please can you tell me where can I get the the window channels from, as mine are the same as yours, got a little garden growing in between the windows like you have, can you please get back to me on this, I get most of my stuff from COUNTRY MOTORHOMES.
We get it off Ebay. The link is in the video description and also in the pinned comment.
Does Carl do work on other Talbots .Need help getting mine started and getting MOT .Live in Stourbridge. 1988 2.0 Petrol
He's retired now and hardly has any of his proper tools as he sold them all. What's up with it?
It's been standing few years not starting at moment I brought plugs leads ect and a carb service kit not fitted or tried it for a while . Me and son were going to have a go in the summer .After that it's mot prepping last mot was before covid it's stood since .There's no rush wanted it for next winter do a winter trip to Spain .I'm using renault trafic at moment and renting accom.Ive owned it since 1998 just lost interest .Me and son were going to share running of it some could use it as well but he's always busy and lives in Nuneaton. Plan was once its running him have it at his house so he could clean it up refurb interior. It's the Talisman has coach built body .
I'm 68 in June just find spannering hard now . 😆
Karl does too unfortunately, getting old is no fun at all.
Really hope your son helps you in the Summer as it would be great to get it up and running again. Good you have the Trafic too though. We know someone with one of those converted to a campervan.
No vapour barrier is why it rotted
Down to Autosleeper I'm afraid, but it will get sorted. Worse than we expected though.
The vehicle was OK when I auctioned it off for £840 (less 10%) ….
How long ago was that?
