  • Learn How to Iron Silk by using 5 simple steps to get the wrinkles out of your silk clothing.
    Step 1: Turn your silk garment inside out and lay flat on the ironing board so that the dull backside of your garment is facing skywards.
    Step 2: Use a spray bottle filled with water to add moisture to your silk garment.
    Step 3: Use a thin cotton press cloth, such as a bandana or pillowcase, to lay on top of the silk fabric.
    Step 4: Turn the iron on to the lowest heat setting. If you iron has a silk setting, use that.
    Step 5: Hand press the iron down onto the garment, with the press cloth always in between the hot iron and the silk fabric. Never place a hot iron directly onto silk fabric. Continue until your silk garment is wrinkle free.

    Dampen the steaming cloth instead of the delicate garment when using a conventional iron and natural fiber steaming cloth. The pressing goes a lot faster and the garment will be steamed evenly without getting wet and it dries a lot quicker. A technique for that which I would use (also great for dampening a cleaning cloth for cleaning a table etc), is to hold only 1/3 of the cloth under the water/faucet, then fold the cloth over twice (so you have 1/3 dry, 1/3 wet, 1/3 dry), then fold it once the other way before you give the cloth a good wringe. This distributes the water from the 1/3 in the middle to the whole cloth and makes it perfectly damp for such delicate tasks! 👏🤗👍

    Very good video. Directly to the point, clear instructions, summary in the end. Very well organized. I usually steam my silk garments as most of them are very thin, but it does take longer, and I can't get the collars totally straight. I might have to use iron. Your tips will be handy.

      Yes, steaming silk is a great option! But you're right, for deep wrinkles and creases, as well as cuffs, collars, and under arm areas, ironing does work best in my opinion. Thanks a lot for watching!

    I purchased a bunch of Sarah silks play silks for my children and they arrived nearly folded (hurray) which gave them huge folding creases (not-hurray)
    This is saving me! Thank you! Those creases were driving me nuts!!

    JUST MAKE SURE that if you buy such a red bandana, to wash out all residue red dye. Red organic fabrics usually have more of it than anything (better to buy a white, yellow or blue, but all dyed ones needs to be washed a few times, preferably with vinegar added one time to set the dyes.). Even better, buy a teflon ironing cloth, or if you have a steam generator iron (which always is better and makes ironing way more effective and even *FUN* ) get a teflon iron soleplate! Great to use with all delicates!!! 🤗

    I’ve had silk shrink really bad when I’ve ironed it! What went wrong?

    • @1000kingdoms
      @1000kingdoms  Před 2 lety

      Heat is the only thing that shrinks silk. So either you have the iron on a setting that is too hot, or you pressed the iron too long on one spot, or you rinsed the silk in hot water. Keep the iron on the lowest heat setting, activate the steam function, and lightly and briefly press the iron down.

    what if its a reversable silk jacket ?
    where there is no "inside out"

    • @1000kingdoms
      @1000kingdoms  Před měsícem

      Ironing on the outside is fine as well. I do it all the time. It's just not considered "best practice."
      Just make sure you follow all of the other guidelines like moisture on the silk and some cloth in between the iron and the fabric.

    Tried this method. It worked in getting the wrinkles out, but it lost it's natural glossy "shine". Any advice for this?

    • @1000kingdoms
      @1000kingdoms  Před rokem +1

      Did you turn the garment inside out before you started? You may also want to try steaming your garment. These processes shouldn't have any effect on the sheen/shine of your garment. How did you wash you garment? If you hand or machine washed it, it may have a dulling effect if you see the color bleed. In this case I would dry clean only.

    TUDaH RBaH (thank you very much, in Hebrew). I just bought some silk to make head covers for sleeptime and pillowcases. I was very unfamiliar with how to care for silk. Thanks again for your tutorial.// SHLM & HaB (peace & love). The Name of the Creator is Hayah asher Hayah, as what He told Moshah (Exodus 3:14), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. There is a curse to the G-o-d name (Isaiah 65:11-12), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. All followers of the Messiah are to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ (King, righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah to be your personal Savior. He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). ...for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Hayah (Romans 3:23). The wages for sin is death but the gift of ALaHYM is Everlasting Life through Messiah Yahushgh our Master (Romans 6:23). That if you confess with your mouth the Master Yahushgh and believe in your heart that ALaHYM raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved (Romans 10:9). He Himself is an Atoning Offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world (1 John 2:2).
