My dad and I always had a running joke about Death Cab. When I first introduced this song, he thought I said "Dead Cat for Judy". This was one of his favorite songs. He passed on March 4th, but I know he would dedicate this song to my mom every year. I miss him, but love that a memory still lives on for me and my mother. Happy mother's day to everyone and love those who are gone but never forgotten
😉❤👍
My grandma passed away last night. Her name was Margaret Devereaux. In 1956 she competed in the Miss America contest, representing the state of Michigan. Today, she is reunited with her husband John, her son and my father Johnny, and so much more family. Grandma Margo, I love you and will miss you on the rest of this walk of life ❤
❤️❤️
Wow, looks like she was on an episode of 'Whats my line?' In '55. Unfortunately it aired on Sept. 11 of that year. Damn she was beautiful.
@@Tywayshe was absolutely beautiful, inside and out. Thanks for your kind words
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
One of my favorite songs ever
Top 5 love songs of all-time, imo!!
Sing it almost every night on the way home from the airport

Not departs. Embarks. What an optimistic, hopeful, exciting message. I've always appreciated this song.
Embarks on a trip.
Yeah it makes it sound like a beginning and not an ending, which is almost beautiful.

"In the end, all you can hope for is that your last thought is a good one. Even if its about the taste of a nice cold beer."
Yes, Scrubs is the best show and also the reason I'm here
+UltraAnimaniac101 watched that episode last night. so good
Watched it today. Although I knew the song before I started the show a week ago on Netflix.
my last words ending. Search it up
What is this from?
My cat Chloe died about an hour and a half ago from Hemangiosarcoma. She lost about 60 percent of her body weight in just 3 weeks. I just buried her in her favorite spot resting on her favorite pair of my pants. Then I lit a novena candle for her and now I’m sitting here looking at years and years of pictures of her and listening to this beautiful, beautiful song that expresses everything I’m feeling. I miss her so much.
I doubt that anyone will see this, but my cat passed on this morning. She had a tumor that was keeping her from eating anymore, and we didn't have any other option. I miss Fable so much, to the point that it makes me sick. I hate how cruel this world is.
RIP Fable, I'll give my cat an extra big hug today when I get home from work today :'(
Srry to hear that, dude. I have a couple of cats and I can't even imagine how sad I'm gonna be when that moment comes.
So sorry to hear about you losing your lovely Fable. *hug*
Remember the good times. Nothing can take THAT away
It is so hard to lose a pet. They take a part of you with them.
I’m singing this song to my dog of 16 years on his last days. I’m crying a bit but it’s my son with a fur coat. Love you kaiser forever
RIP Kaiser. I hope you’re doing okay, Richard.
❤️❤️
I wish I could like this song every time I listen to it. Truly one of the best ever written.
To me, this song as a whole has some of the most powerful and beautifully haunting lyrics I've ever heard. It's a moment in life we all want to push away but it's inevitability is what haunts most of us. The way he writes about it makes it comforting though, I think it points out how powerful the love between two human beings can truly conquer death's horror.
Jeremy Dyer it feels to me almost like a man comforting his wife (or vice versa) on their deathbed.
Beautiful words friend
Very well put
Thank you
I think you need to get a life.
I died in 2013 and had a near death experience. Dont fear death. Its easy to die. Its harder to come back changed. Love is why we are here my friends. So, just love.
NDE...one of my favorite subjects....I believe you!
so very few people come to this realization. you can explain it to the world in depth, but it just doesnt click...until you have that experience. with time, it will fade away, but just try to hold on to that feeling, its golden....meditate on those moments that bring you closer to that understanding or the busy world will wash it away.
i too, died in 2013.
But you’re alive...
I died in 2023
Powerful lyrics but not sad. My wife died three years ago and I find comfort in this song. Thank you!
19MarkZ I’m happy to hear it helped you!
it's been six years since your wife's gone
how are you doing this time mate
are you alright?
My girlfriend passed three years ago, helps me same way.
hope you are well mark
Just lost my wife three weeks ago and went looking for this song. Which was a mistake.😔 Still too raw, but a little more distance might bring it back to 'comforting.' Memo to self: do not listen to any Elliot Smith songs, either.
I sang this to my mom before she died in the hospital cause of cancer
as I was thinking of when I was a kid and she sang to me every night I will be here for you ur night mares can't fight or love between each other I'll be there....
That’s so sweet
🕯️
Your comment is so profound. 😔
Thank you for sharing. I'm sorry for the loss of your precious Mother. ❤
For Martha by the Smashing Pumpkins is the song for being by your dying mother.
I buried my little brother with this song to let him know he’s not alone. I believe it worked
God bless you and your family

He's flying high now u will be with him one day he will be waiting stay strong brother 🙏 💕
I had to put my fur baby Pringus (Pringles) McDingus the shelter kitty into forever sleep on Wednesday, only two days ago. I was sent this video today in my mourning. Pringles, I will follow you into the dark any time, just to have you, to hold you, to see you smile, to pet your short, tuxedo patterned coat. Be in pain no more. Where you are is only peace. There is no death, there is only the force. Goodbye, my friend. Until we meet again. To anyone who has loved and lost, keep on loving. It’s what they would want. Open your heart again as soon as you feel you can. It’s lonely without love.
Rest in peace, Pringles. 😿❤️
My dog was very ill. The night before she died, I sang this song to her as I held her head trying to hold back the tears :(
You'll be reunited 🙌🏻🙏🏻
that`s sad, RIP dog
I feel your loss. Your companion had the comfort of you in her last moments.

So sorry. A wonderful song though.
Fun fact: they only played this during the broadcast because Chance the Rapper asked them to.

My grandfather passed away a few weeks ago, and listening to this song reminds me how much he ment to me, and how much he was a father figure to me bc I grew up without a father bc... of a divorce, and he just ment so much to me in my life and now that he's gone just makes me wish I spent more time with him.. I work as a life enrichment coordinator at a nursing home. I had a lady I grew very close to. Yesterday at her funeral, I got informed that she was buried with one of our bingo chips in her hand. I feel so blessed to have known her.

I have always interpreted the speaker (the "I" in the lyrics) not as being a friend or boyfriend/girlfriend of the listener, but rather, death itself. Death as a gentle and constant companion, there with us through our life and adventures, and there with us at the end.
That's a really interesting interpretation. Makes me a little more optimistic.
COME WITH ME, he said, YOU'VE DONE GREAT THINGS. BUT NOW IT'S TIME TO GO.
So death went to catholic school? Don’t know how I feel about this
wow that's very poetic. but quite dark ....

I seriously think this is one of the greatest songs ever written. Such a beautiful work of art
Damn. The comments are more depressing than the song.
FOR REAL!
they are hitting hard.
I actually think the song is honest & refreshing!
My niece sang this song at my wedding four years ago. My wife & I have had a lot of ups & downs. We drive each other crazy, but I would still follow her into the dark.
Oh... the best comment I've read.
Never let her go, my husband passed away in May. I'll never forget the scream I made and how silent my world went. Not a day has gone by were I don't love and wish he was here. Cherish the little things, I miss his laugh and his snore (as well as his amazing intellect, kind heart, and love).
Cute
That’s so cute bro 😭😭🤌🤌✨✨
I want this to play at my funeral. Holly Gollum!!!
This song never really meant that much to me before my divorce got finalized in May, but since then I've been listening to it quite a bit. I get that this song is a pledge of love and loyalty in the face of death, and that it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with grief or loss, but it feels good to play it whenever I start to reminisce about my marriage or my ex-wife. I guess I regret that those sentiments didn't turn out to be true for us, because as difficult as it was to be married to her I liked being a husband and father, and I liked coming home to a family every night, but now I don't have a family anymore.
I first found this tune after a mate's younger brother died. I guess like most tunes it's about whatever you want it to be. I find it sad but ultimately uplifting. Sorry about your divorce mate. I wish you all the best.
It's all some of us ever wanted,I hate not seeing my girls eyes first thing in the morning..... three daughters but Noone to tuck in at night, what am I even doing here anymore???

My gramps died a few years back, my grans went a few years later. she was always so happy but when he died she just looked tired, so very tired and afraid. She passed early this year at 81 and I this song makes me think of them, that their young again and together in a place we cant comprehend wherever that may be. A happy place, with warm sun and white clouds, shade trees and pine groves.
That's a really nice comm Sara mate.
Same thing. My grandpa died back in 2012. But really when he did my grandma looked lost ajd sad ever since. She was diagnosed with dementia in 2018. She died in 2020.
I lost my soulmate of 6 years and fiance to cancer in August of 2022. I remember this song but didn't really immerse myself in it when it was released. A few months ago, I bought some CDs from the thrift store, including DCFC - Plans because it looked interesting. Yesterday, when driving to get a biopsy for something that looks suspicious and could be cancer, I by chance popped this CD in to listen to during the drive. When this song came on, it meant everything. (I went to Catholic school for 9 years so I could even relate to that part). I will now learn the guitar part and vocals and cover it as a tribute. Everything.
Good luck with the song! If you feel comfortable, maybe share it with us random peeps on here?
@@domeplsffs Will do, thank you.
God bless you, man.. I hope for the best for you whatever the biopsy results are.
@@TheVincedagreat Thank you. Biopsy came back negative, praise God.
@@mcbigswig1569 fuck yes. glad to hear it.
Quite possibly the most beautiful sad song that exists. Gives me chills all the way down. Leaves me teary eyed but hopeful. And filled with so much love.
I lost my best bud in February this year and everyday it gets worse I miss him more and more each.. i pushed alot of my old friends away until I could keep sober and he was one of them only saw him a few times before he overdosed. I miss him so much the nights we had driving around talking and hanging out smoking doinks and riding our sleds out to the special hidden spot ah man. He was always there for me I miss him and can't wait to see him on other side. Rip Evan
I send my hugs and support to you, even though I don't know you. He was your man. Sometimes you could just turn to one of your other people for anything now.
This song helped me so much through the death of my cat. She was 15 years old and such a fiesty girl. I repeatedly said to my partner do you think I'll even see Lily again. He said I would , I believe to this day Lily I'll see you again I love you so much
I think that's a healthy attitude to take Amy. There's nothing wrong with having a cry at a sad song. I'm gonna give you and Lily a Like! Oh and a hug too. A big sqweeezy one.
I broke down sobbing when I first heard this song, it's so powerful.
I cry Everytime I hear this no matter wether I'm having a good day or not
Yeah. And the video. I needed time
all we want in this life is someone that loves us so much theyll follow us into the dark or vice versa someone you love so much youll follow them into the dark.
I loved him like I'd never loved before. I hope he's happy, I hope the world has nothing but love and kindness for him, and I never want to see him again.
I can't listen to this song without crying
My heart was stolen when this song was sang to me... He really won me over.

I sang this to my husband right before he had his craniotomy. That was 5 years ago, he made it through!

My brother died January 2018. I found a list on his Facebook page of bands he had seen through the years. For his funeral luncheon, I started listening to these bands he had seen and looked up their songs. Death Cab was one of the bands he had listed. When I mentioned this to my daughter, she said she had talked to my brother about this band and he said Into The Dark was their finest song in his opinion. We played this song at his funeral and it’s so fitting. I miss him so much and have come to fall in love with this band’s music. They are unlike any other. Just saw them in concert myself on 12/3/18. What a great show! Thanks DCFC for all of your beautiful music.
This song was played at my wedding last year 💕
A Twitch streamer nicknamed "SkeeterMagavin" told me about this song. I'm glad I had the chance to be part of her streams. R.I.P. Steph. Thanks for letting me know about this one.
This song gets me every fucking time. Bravo.
I loved hearing an interview where Ben confessed that this song came to him after two weeks of showing up and getting nothing from his writing efforts; further reinforcement of the importance of showing up.
Love of mine, some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark
No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the 'No's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
I held my tongue as she told me,
"Son, fear is the heart of love."
So I never went back
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the 'No's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
You and me have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
But it's nothing to cry about
'Cause we'll hold each other soon
In the blackest of rooms
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the 'No's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
Then I'll follow you into the dark
😀
It means so much

2007.. 19 years old.. after first heart break.. first year in college.. lonely, cold small town... small ugly dorm room... no friends to understand.. smoking heavily (then quit) listening to this song... getting depressed in a poetic way... somehow feeling heard and understood with more repetition of listening the song... it healed me.. this song will always touch my heart
I can’t stop listening to this song. I was hit by a drunk driver with my sister in the car and she died, and the chorus just is so real and raw. It really makes you think about what’s next. I love this song 🥰 and at the same time it scares me.

My partner died January 2022 when I was taking care of my mom fighting cancer and I wished I had rights and was able to play this at his funeral. He means so much to me a year and a half later and I feel just as lonely as I did that day he died. I don’t exactly k ow what is there at the end the universe’s plan matter god… ext. but I know if it’s nothing then I will follow him into the dark l. Cause I know till the day I die I will feel this empty-ness cause I know a big part of me died with him and I’ll never get that back. As that spark/light turned of I realized I’m sorry in the dark just alone and I will hunt him down till the end of time through whenever obstacles I need to fight my way through to find him.

Ben's voice gets me every time.
One of the greatest songs ever written. TUNE!
FarRight James I just listened to it... They sound pretty different.., and I prefer this song.
I mean, I couldn't hear the guitar, so maybe they had a similar tune, but for one, they have completely different lyrics, and to me about completely different things.
FarRight James nope it has a very different vocal melody dude.. a guitar strumming is a bit same but they doesn't mean much

I lost my dad a year ago and it's still a hot stabbing knife this just made it a little bit better. As the ambulance took him away he knew he wasn't coming back he stopped the paramedics and asked for me. I climbed into the bus and held his hands and we locked eyes and all I can think of is the "if there's no one beside you when your soul embarks I'll follow you into the dark" love you Dad
