To celebrate her good fortune (and to share it with you), Kate slabbed many of the semi-precious gemstone to see what's inside. The variety is awesome; every Montana agate is a unique piece. It's a beautiful fall day, the sun is shining and the rocks are stunning - come along!

Thanks! It's a lot of work to do it that way, but I'll try to do it more often when I can.
Beautiful rocks collected. I know they have been tumbling in the Yellowstone River a long time but do you know the source of where these rocks came from? It would be interesting to know.
I do! They come from a line of volcanoes 150 miles long along the eastern edge of what is now Yellowstone National Park - 70 million years ago, I think.
@@KatyDidRocks so how far away is that line of volcanoes from where you collect the rocks?
Kia ora Katy, just a query from a newbie - I have a jasper with quartz veins (didn't know what it was till this vid), would you cut it or leave it as a specimen please? thanks
If you cut it, it generally shows really cool patterns throughout the jasper - but depending on how it was formed, it can fracture more easily. :)
