    You keep the concrete hydrated as it dries to avoid the excessive cracking. So it might have dried to fast and that’s why you have cracking. It’s probably more of an esthetic things but never hurts to have a pro check it out.

      The little aesthetic things can slowly lead to structural failure. Cracks are never good and water is the enemy of anything man will ever create

      Also depends on how they poured. If the labourers cheaped out on the brand of concrete to short change a buck. If it was put into the mixing truck and poured at the right time to cure. Theres a million different reasons for cracking. But those cracks are huge for a pool. This looks like the worst job ive seen in a while. It also looks like they didn’t pour pad and texture it. Meaning the poured the whole slab and hoped the middle cured. You cant do that with a pool. You have to have ground structure.

    My grandparents build pools for a living and your doing great! Keeping the concrete moist an hydrated will help reduce cracking. I do recommend getting the pool lined or plastered as soon as possible! The pool is going to look great! 🎉

  • @user-jq9kp7ep8q
    @user-jq9kp7ep8q Před rokem +28029

    Everyone saying “you need to line the pool” I’m pretty sure they know that. When you first lay cement or concrete you have to water it as it cures so it doesn’t have huge cracks, especially if you don’t score it
    Edit: this was just my personal experience, I really don’t want arguments and rude comments in the comment section so no one is offended :) just sharing my experience!

      Out here in Pennsylvania I’m 95% we don’t do that. It just wasn’t poured well or the vermiculite mix itself had too much air, it looks like concrete that had too much air and the surface cracked and chipped. However watering concrete isn’t bad it does “make it cure harder and crack less,” however if it was poured correctly and everything was done properly with good product it shouldn’t look like that in my opinion.

    you need a curing compound for freshly poured concrete and if you don’t use a curing compound you need to cover the entire thing with polyethylene to hold moisture or it will indeed crack every time. little holes look to be what we call “honeycombing” and it’s when the concrete was not consolidated (or vibrated) within the form it was poured in. - construction inspector

    All concrete cracks due to shrinkage. Which is why you normally put control joints in concrete so you can control where it cracks to make it look better but due to the pool getting a liner the cracks due not matter as long as the pool has a good base layer and reinforcement in it keeping the cracks together. Watering the concrete slows the curing process in turn slowing the shrinkage , however you still are never gonna stop the cracks.

And C to make it so anyone who may not be a great swimmer will be able to tell the deep end apart. Paint it at least once and then paint again then paint a wide much darker color strip to indicate the deep end. Then let it cure the manufacturer recommend time. Otherwise the paint will bubble and peel. I don’t know about in California but I know many states require it to be repainted every year.

    The concrete is going to crack. That’s not an issue. The “divots” are where they couldn’t vibrate it or finish it out to give the smooth outer appearance like they did the bottom. None of it is anything to worry about structurally. It just doesn’t look pleasing but it’s a pool so it’s fine

    My dad fixes pools for a living and I've tagged along a bunch of times. Typically cracking isn't a problem, especially if they are small, but it's best to just get it checked out just in case. If your gonna have a pool liner then it's probably not that big of a deal. 💁‍♀️

    If you put burlap sacs over the concrete and keep those wet you'll have to moisten the concrete less as they'll stay moist unless you're getting tons of sun it'll just help the cracking

    Looks like plastic shrinkage cracking. Water evaporated off the surface faster than it bled out of the concrete before it was fully set. Gotta check evaporation rates before you pour
