  • House finch birds (purple finches?) raises in a broken light fixture. Been watching these for the past two weeks. One had flown away to the parents so there were three left and I knew they were about to fly. Was able to see two of them fly out out but they timed them to when the go pro wasn’t recording. They flew into the tops of the Leland Cypresses is m our yard. The parents continued to call out and finally the last one left. Really enjoy seeing the dedication of the parents in all this. The father was the one at the beginning with the red breast. Didn’t realize it until they left that there was a 5th egg that never hatched. Unlike the sparrows we filmed 8 years ago - these finches never removes the poop from the nest. The sparrow nest was clean when they were done. This one was a poop factory. Now i will be replacing the front porch lights

    Love this, it's going on in my door wreath right now, she's got three, they are chirping like crazy. The mother's accidentally flown into my house twice took a towel and put her back on the front door. The babies are growing really fast, guessing they'll fly soon. Hope so crows are now flying by my house every morning, it's getting a bit Hitchcock.

      Same thing happening on top of my wreath. Same nest same different laying of blue eggs 3 times this summer. The newly left babies now sit on the ground outside & I watch the mom feeding them. They are tiny but fat. Love how they wake me in the early mornings with their songs. The fruit n nut seeds are a premium brand that they love.

    Omg! I have the same thing happening in my porch light fixture! Lol I unfortunately can't see into it but I can hear them, and the mom and dad keep taking turns feeding them. Not sure if it's the male or female but they've been coming back to this light every year but this is the first time they've found a mate and made a nest.

    I have two babies now that the mom built the nest under my porch light, just like these are. Well the whole light ficture fell from the extra weight. There's only 2 lil buggers in it and they have feathers. About the size of these guys at the beginning of the vid. I tied a easter basket under the light and put the nest inside the basket. I cant tell if the mom is still taking care of them. I can't ever find her in the nest but i see her out in my tree sometimes. The lil guys dont seem to chirp at all. I hope they're gonna be ok

    The only bad thing is the bird mites...if u see little black dots all over the ceiling it's mites..I found out when I went to sit outside on my porch and I had little black things on my arm so I looked all over and when I looked up they were all over! They were falling on me! Ughh

    I had a nest of three in my front door wreath. Through the glass door panes, I watched the mother feed them. I enjoyed their cute chirps and watching them grow. Today I noticed that they were suddenly big and hopping around excitedly on the rim of the nest. A few hours later, there was absolute silence. I looked through the panes to discover that the mother had covered the glass and top of the nest with swaths of fresh greenery. I find that strange and think she did this, because she knew I was watching and was uncomfortable about my presence. I checked again later, and there was no movement, chirping, or little heads bobbing up--which still concerns me. I surmise that they left the nest but will check again tomorrow to make sure. I'm going to miss them.

      Well, I discovered why the birds brought new greenery to the nest. They were building it up for another clutch. The second batch of babies have done very well and are about to take flight. After they leave, I will be sad for a few days, but I'm glad that they appear to be very healthy and happy birds.

    I have an important question..I need help from my bird people...my finch babies started to hatch..one baby bird is in a sac...like amniotic sac...like the egg cracked and momma picked the rest of the shell off...its weird I can't explain it but I can see the baby bird moving around in the sac...she has a total of 5 eggs 3 hatched then theres the one in the sac and then theres 1 egg stoll solid...this is her 2nd time laying eggs ....these finches come and make a nest on my wreath every spring for tge last 3 years ... she already had her first round of eggs hatch and they grew it happy healthy birdies and they flew away..so this is her second time around...

    • @jodigolzbein5175
      @jodigolzbein5175 Před 3 lety +3

      Well the bird hatched and guess they all successfully learned how to fly. She was definitely the baby of the 4.

      It's interesting how the mom must take the poop out and leave it on the edge. I've seen other house finch nests that look just like this. Robins carry the poop out as do wrens.

    So I had a finch nest in my door wreath. The birds were no longer in nest as of yesterday so I took down wreath - they were getting bird poop all over so I have been waiting for them to leave -but today i keep seeing the birds come to my porch/door - the wreath is completely gone - i threw it away cuz it was disgusting. Was the momma bird going to lay more eggs? Will she be able to make a new nest somewhere else? How long will she and the other birds still come to my door I feel so bad :-(

    Maybe be a bit less intrusive next time - I'm sure you made the parents extremely worried.

    • @Jaabo37
      @Jaabo37  Před 4 lety +17

      They seemed fine. People always say stuff like this in the bird videos. They were being intrusive to us but we let them be. All 4 flew away fine. Nothing I did hindered the parents any more than a black crow.

    • @SweetStuffOnMonarchLane
      @SweetStuffOnMonarchLane Před 2 lety +4

      Yes, it's fine to occasionally video or look closely at them to a certain point in their growth, but once they are almost to fledgling stage you can cause them to leave the nest too early by scaring them out of it, and a baby bird is EXTREMELY vulnerable then. It's just good advice if you want to do the best for them, and what the wild bird experts will tell you. I've accidentally done it myself and felt horrible... and 95% of the time those babies will NOT stay in the nest if you try to put them back in it either. Instead of being defensive, it would be more responsible for the person filming this to educate those that may want to do the same thing they are doing, that they learned later that this could have made the babies leave the nest too early, so it isn't a good idea. (Which is why I wrote this, to educate.)

      I have them for the first time on my front door wreath. It's a nuisance for sure. It was cute when I first noticed it, but now I fear for the baby birds because we open and close the door often!

    • @SweetStuffOnMonarchLane
      @SweetStuffOnMonarchLane Před 2 lety +1

      Why "shame on her"? Maybe she got killed by a cat or something. I doubt a mother bird would leave her babies on purpose.
