Have one of these and I love it. Recommend anyone purchashing a snugpak for the first time taking it out in their back yard and practice with it a few time so you get used to the system. Once you have it down it only takes a couple of minutes to get the fly up. One trick, take some orange (or whatever other color you like) and mark one corner of the inner tent and outer fly (on the inside) save a couple of minutes lining it up during set up.

I have used an old Eureka tent, similar to their El Capitan 2, for 10 years or more. It has a frame attached to the tent with a fly to cover. The problem is setting up everything in the rain. The advantage I see with the Snugpak is that you can shelter your gear on the grass without dragging water and mud into the living area right away. Thanks for a great review.

Right...if it's raining you are already wet most likely, the point here is so the inside of your tent is not wet while you setup.

Awesome, great tents. I've used north face and marmot tents and fly first on these is much better...and no broken clips. Good deal for the money.

  • @thehauntedfisherman1792

Hey Ben! I watched this vid last night.. and i thought about it all day. What a great tent! Let it rain, let it snow.. I'd feel safe and good to go! i really like the extra room.. but, the main thing is that i would feel safe pitching this one on the side of a mountain when the weathers coming! great job.. keep the vids coming! i really like the idea that if ya' wanna' go ultra you can just bring the fly.. looks like a very strong tent.

  • @MultiOutdoorman

Thanks for a peek at the snugpack tent. I would also add that its a geodesic design that is stable and self-supporting. So you can just unpeg it and quickly move it to another spot if the need arises.
    Thanks again.

In your opinion, which do you like best, the Scorpion, or the Bunker? I'm looking to buy a tent and these two seem to stand out the most.

  • @Artsartisan

Several years ago, I owned a North-face "Sierra" A Frame Expedition Tent. It was a beautiful Tent which North-face no longer manufactures. I understand the next highet grade was a tent used by Sir Edmund Hillary. It was identical to the Sierra except that it had an opening in the floor in which to have a stove.
I purchased the Snugpack Pack Bunker recently. I wanted a small four season tent and look forward to using it. I think I will be happy with the Snugpack but honestly, the Sierra North-Face was a beautiful tent.
No exaggeration, I've set that tent up easily on evenings under dark sky when there was a new moon - a bare minimum of lighting. I think I could have set that tent up blindfolded! And it looked beautiful as well!

once you clip the liner to the fly you can setup the snugpak very quickly.

Awesome video! Considering this tent, after my last tent from Nordisk (Oppland 3) decided to leak the first time it saw rain....
From what I see the Snugpak tents seem much sturdier built.
I have one question which isnt super clear from the video. Can you unzip the opaque material from the front door of the inner tent, to make it fully mesh? Mostly asking this because that Nordisk tent had subpar ventilation, and in hotter climates I would have appreciated a bit more ventilation at times. If this tent doesnt have any mesh on the door its probably too closed off for the hot climates.
Also, after all these years (8!!), how are you liking the tent after (I assume) a lot of use?

Very nice quality tent. Reminds me of my camo, goretex 3 man tent I bought from Early Winters. MANY similarities but since it was goretex no rain fly. They no longer make the EW tent. This one looks excellent but I bet it is only a 3 season tent with all of that mesh. Would be great in a rainy environment. Nice presentation.

How would you say the snugpak holds up in foul weather, now that it's been a few years?
I've heard that it's a rather squat tent and can be uncomfortable due to the low ceiling.
Have you tried it in summer?
Being a 4 season tent, I worry about how hot it might get.
Like the OP, I'm in Texas, and we tend to be drowning in sweat and humidity more than freezing, so I'm wondering if this tent might be TOO warm for general Texas use?
Please let me know your thoughts if you have time.

I was curious if there was noticeable difference in pack size when folded up already attached together? vs. folding it up separately? Either way, I think you have a hell of nice tent set up. For the high quality you're getting, I think the price is worth it, especially when you compare it to similar tents in same price range. " you get what you pay for " and it's not worth being Penny Wise & Dollar Foolish when it come to your shelter, be it survival or just a week in the backwoods. Just my opinion. Great review.

Any Top tents for Survival backpack?

Really for a survival pack a good tarp would be best. Tents, any lightweight 2+ man tent would be good.

Seems like you could install the inner portion and just leave it installed, so when you erected the tent the next time you get both at the same time.

  • @XjDrZ

I like the tent for the ease of portability for a BOB and the likes, I just don't feel like it would provide a good draft free tent....have you looked at Pinnacle Tents? I use them when I'm Jeep wheeling/camping.

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  Před 9 lety +1

RedBeard109 Really need the draft in the winter for ventilation and keeping the condensation down. I'll check those out!

@@livingsurvival I saw both videos. Love your reviews! You are our go to review guy whenever we are thinking of making any kind of outdoorsy or flashlight purchase! I couldn’t find the video you mentioned that you would make about taking the bunker out overnight like you did the scorpion.

So, now that I've had a chance to use it more than once or twice for a few days at a time, I will say it's an awesome tent and incredibly well made and easy to use. However, it is in no way a two person tent!! I'm 5'11" and 185 lbs and there was really only enough room for me and my pack...and that was kind of pushin' the envelope. As I stated earlier though, it's an awesome tent!!! You will not be disappointed owning it!!
