      @Uncle_Ruckus_ Japan in the 80's was doing crazy good in industry, and their economy was going through a huge boom. However, due to a myriad of economic issues regarding inflated real estate and asset values, their boom was considered a case of a growing bubble, and when that bubble burst in the early 90's, it brought with it a huge economic crash the country still hasn't recovered from fully.
      For a local comparison, the surprise mortgage bubble here in the States, where lenders kept giving out mortgages they knew couldn't get paid in full while also reporting massively overvalued real estate holdings, eventually led to the notorious 2008 crash.

      It got to the point that Japanese corporations, and even individuals, were buying entire skyscrapers in all major cities in the USA. Speculation on real estate in Tokyo was to such an extent, that the land and buildings in the Japanese imperial palace and gardens, was appraised at a value greater than that of the entire state of California.

    80's anime has a certain vibe

    • @FromTheRoomOfLittleEase
      @FromTheRoomOfLittleEase Před 4 lety +87

      That vibe IS anime. The anime the world thinks of when they think of Anime.
      Outside of some teens and twenty year olds to early 30 year old Americans, Canadians, and Europeans interested in the modern Anime fads.
      Most of the world were introduced to 60s 70s and *especially* eighties Anime from television.
      Even more people have seen 80s Anime images in other context. Really 80s Anime is *the* Anime, not some part of a whole.
      You've got Anime leading up to the mid eighties and Anime that is post mid eighties.
      It's like the Beatles on Ed Sullivan show, you may hold Sergeant Pepper or the White Album in high regard, but for the majority of the human race that _is_ the Beatles.
      Marilyn Monroe pushing down her skirt in the seven year itch is more Marilyn Monroe than the real human Norma Jean could ever really be...it's beyond any understanding of evolution.
      My mom can identify these as Japanese cartoons and so can a millennials child, but my mom has no idea what she's looking at when you show her about half of modern Anime.
      ...and when she would know, it would be because the particular work you showed her retains elements developed mostly in the 60s 70s and 80s and were refined mostly in the eighties.
      People call Elvis the king of rock and roll because he was called that before the rock and roll we came to know began.
      Elvis didn't play electric guitar solos with a distorted guitar..THAT *is* Rock and Roll.
      Sometimes the thing in the middle _is_ the thing.
      Like B.C. and A.D.

    I remember when this came out and people were getting their first "RAW" bootlegs. You find someone to had something and you traded something good for what they had. When people first saw this they were to amazed. You had a bizarre title, set in cyberpunk future, a rave performance that blew you out of your seat (and still holds up to this day) and then the action starts where you got the city's police department and riot squad is trying to stop some rampaging cyborgs courtesy of the corporation Genom. You wonder what the hell is all this about. Until you find out that Priss the lead vocalist of the Replicants (which is a nod to Blade Runner) is also a member of the city's mercenary force for good against the Genom's cybernetic fiasco. I'll say this that out of the entire series which is laden with 80's synth pop 'Koniya wa Hurricane' IS THE best song on the entire album. LOL!!
