Just found your channel. I love the TLM. I switched over about 10 years ago. I attend an FSSP latin mass only parish.I left the NO because I wanted a deeper spiritual experience. I need the quiet and beauty that the TLM offers. I also don't like the music and the lay people giving out communion and the sign of peace at the NO. And at theTLM everyone is on the same page when it comes to church teachings.

I just discovered your channel yesterday and I love the things you have to say! And I’m totally with you there with the rails. When I reverted back into the faith I started receiving communion by the tongue, I could never do it any other way, it’s so beautiful and special! God bless you 🌷

I veil to show reverence for the lord. It doesn’t make me better than anyone who doesn’t veil, but the Eucharist is special, and Jesus is truly present. He deserves that extra reverence and appreciation. Not only that, but if you’re going to receive the Eucharist, that is an event that deserves to be set apart from every other event, and when you put your veil on, you’re doing that. That’s why I receive on the tongue and veil. I don’t go to TLM mass, but those are very important to me. I receive on the tongue because because it is truly the Lord, and that is so amazing, and it is better to do that, so no particles can break off, and it is a great feeling!

The question about Veiling, and just a heads up i am not strongly opinionated about it personally, though i do believe its scriptural, see below for example:
    1 Corinthians 11:4-5
4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.
5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head-it is the same as having her head shaved.
    Also see below:
Canon 1262.2 of the 1917 Canon Law of the Church states:
"Men should be with head uncovered in church or outside of church, when they assist at the sacred rites, unless the approved customs of the people or additional particulars of the circumstances call for something else; women, however, should be with head covered and modestly dressed, particularly when they approach the Lord's table."

    • @CatholicKatherine
      @CatholicKatherine  Před 4 měsíci

CONTEXT - St Paul only said that because only prostitutes had uncovered. Do you really think that women would be walking around everywhere with their heads uncovered if it was against Canon Law?

I don't know why you say your opinions are unpopular; they seem very reasonable to me.
    - I was born way after the II Vatican Council, so I've never been in Latin Traditional Mass, although I know some Latin language and I could understand some things (Spanish is my mother language, I can understand Italian and I studied some Latin language in High School). Both of my parents went to the TLM during their childhood because it was the only kind of Mass there was before the II VC. The veil was mandatory for women on the TLM, but to me, it has no sense at all in the actual Mass. With the sole exception of the Holy Thursday and Good Friday services and the Holy Week processions, I've never seen any woman or girl in the Novus Ordo Mass with a veil in Spain or Poland. Probably the best part of the modern Mass to me is to see and feel the real presence of Jesus Christ.
    - Sometimes it is necessary to have extraordinary ministers helping during the Mass. My neighborhood's parish at my hometown in Spain is a quite big XIV Century church, almost totally crowded on Sunday and Saturday services, so it is quite necessary to have extraordinary ministers helping during the Mass. On my neighborhood's parish in Warsaw, Poland, which is ruled by the Franciscans, some members of the community help during the Mass, and the noon Sunday Mass is attended by the whole Franciscan community.
    - In Spain and Poland we never have the Communion on a Communion Rail. Some churches have it but I have never been in a Mass in which it has been used.
    - Never ever in any mass I have attended in Spain and Poland has there been anyone who has gone to communion and taken the Sacred Form in the hand without taking communion. If you are truly Catholic and respect the Sacred Form, you would never do that. I have never seen watchers for that at any Mass.
    - In both Spain and Poland, some people go immediately to the communion lane and other people wait to say a prayer or wait until there are fewer people in line. Both behaviors are normal and common here. Gossip at the time of communion is more common the smaller the community and the smaller the population. I was born and lived in a small city in Spain, in my parish we gathered most of the neighbors of the neighborhood and it was inevitable that there was gossip, but it is something to which I personally have never given any importance and I have never participated in it.
    - When you are an established part of a parish community, it is normal that you develop your religious life there, but of course, everyone is free to attend Mass at whatever parish they wish. On my Spanish hometown, I was part of the community of my neighborhood's parish and it was my only church, but here in Warsaw I visit and attend Mass on many churches around the city. And yes, for a single man like me, it is inevitable to be at least a little bit jealous of the couples and marriages who attend Mass. We modern single men have no problem being the first to send a message to a woman or receive the first message from a woman. It doesn't make any difference. The important thing is that there is real interest.
Warm greetings from a Spaniard who currently resides in Poland, the land of my beloved and admired St. John Paul II.

Thanks for sharing !! I love your takes on the communion rail and Eucharistic ministers, as well as on ushers for communion. 100% hard agree 😃
I personally do prefer the TLM for many reasons :) most of which pertain to reverence and how the mass was made in the first place. Idk if you’ve checked out the episodes from Mass of Ages, if you’re interested haha they have two right now and the third will be out March 19th. They do a good job of showing and explaining exactly how I feel about the tlm 😃
When it comes to veiling, ouch haha those are kind of strange reasons they gave 😳😳 even though it’s not sinful to not wear one I love to veil because it shows reverence for the presence of God. That’s actually the reason why women were veiling in the past. Men had to unveil their heads and women veiled. It’s also just like how the Tabernacle is veiled, and so on: sacred things are veiled to reverence those things, and women are life bearers so we can veil as well. Idk if I did that justice but those are two reasons why I veil. Reasons that the church give that is haha.
Thank you for being honest and sharing your thoughts in your video! God bless 🥰

Hot-take 3 with little to no extraordinary ministers I agree wholeheartedly. It seems like sometimes we treat the distribution of Christ as a McDonalds drive through. Definitely better to have time to reflect and pray as you wait to receive Him. Time to thirst and deepen your desire for Him to enter us, a living tabernacle.

I'm not Catholic yet, but I'm in the process of becoming one. I've been to one latin mass, which I didn't hate, but I clearly prefer the novus ordo.
In the church I go I find enough time for prayer and I feel that atmosphere is reverent. There is also plenty of singing in latin in every novus ordo mass (credo, sanctus etc.).
I don't really know what the prefered way to act as I'm not allowed to receive the host. I personally find it easier to go with the other people who are going to receive the eucharist and just receive a blessing from the priest. I lift my right hand to my left shoulder as a sign that I'm not there to receive the host, and the priest gives me a blessing. I feel awkward to let the other people past me in the narrow church pews, so for me, it's easier to go with the flow to receive a blessing.

Grear vid. I can't say I dislike TLM, but I do prefer NO, for many of the reasons you state. I'm a 71 year old who grew up with TLM, and there seems to be an idea that we had no problems pre-Vat II. We were no more perfect then than now, I assure you! Communion rails, good EMs OK. I remember the old days when both men and women used to cover their heads during the Mass (including my mom and dad), women cover with veils and men take off their headbands or hats and leave the headscarf (shmag) as a veil, I remember the reason was woman’s hair resemble crown and cover it in the present of our lord and king to humble themselves and show humility, same goes for men.
I look at Latin mass as a devotion, I don’t like it when it becomes a divisive issue.

Just my own hot takes on your hot takes.
Let's not have "Watchers" due to judgement is by God only. If people want to take the Eucharist, this may be their way to find the flesh of God. We are encouraging all to come to our services. If that is the way to God, so be it.
As far as veiling, this is similar to other orthodox religions. It is to cover our beautiful hair and God is only allowed to see it or our husbands. Hair can be distracting to others. In Pittsburgh in the suburbs, we do not practice this. That is why nuns and sisters wear habits. Check out the dress codes of orthodox religions and I encourage you to practice for one day. It might be a good way to think about suffering during lent.
Many of our parishioners are elderly and cannot kneel on any type of kneelers. Let's not exclude the elderly from communion.
Lay people are important to promote the Eucharist. Less people want to take time out to go to mass, let alone stay in mass while it takes time for the priest to give communion. Our priests are few in number so they have to go to others churches to say mass. Unfortunately shortened mass is part of that consequence. Staying after mass and taking time to pray in quiet is an alternative. Church is where we make it so having a private prayer alter is a great way to accomplish this.
I welcome you to come to Pittsburgh to see some beautiful historic chapels/shrines here. We have St. Anthony's that has life sized wooden carved stations of the cross and over 5000 relics, many which are first class.
Let's practice less judgement and more openess to our brothers and sisters as they navigate Catholicism. Our practices can seem strange to those that have not grown up in the faith.
Thank you for teaching and hope to see you in NYC or Pittsburgh soon. Also look up St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center run by the Passionists. They have great retreats and all are welcome. Pgh is a short flight away or about 8 hours drive from NYC.
This is about the Pgh Historic Shrines. pghshrines.org/the-chapel

    • @CatholicKatherine
      @CatholicKatherine  Před 5 měsíci +1

If they take the Eucharist - there is a chance it will be used for a Satanic Black Mass. - so no we need to protect it at all costs as it is never meant to be used for purposes other then consumption. Watchers is also a proper term - no need for quotes. We encourage all to come to mass but we do not allow those who are not practicing Catholics to receive. For the sake of their souls only Catholics in good standing with the church can receive.
Hair has never been distracting unless your hair is purple. I would never go to an orthodox church as I am a Catholic. Some sisters such as the Sisters of Life do show some hair.
Elderly would never be excluded because they cannot kneel.

I'm pretty sure you're in Manhattan bc you were at the procession. (I'm from the Bronx). I have a question. Did you happen to hear what happened at Saint Patricks Cathedral regarding Bishop Dolan and a priest there. If so will you be making a video on your thoughts about the situation. Also I feel like we need more New York City Catholic influence as we're not only a big part of the city but of Catholicism in America. It's very tiring how the media only shows the bad stuff and will say we got what we wanted but wont show the nunneries, community, and true Catholics here who're silenced due to political corruption and the mainstream media.

I recently saw a young woman wearing a veil at Mass while also wearing a 8" long mini skirt (things that make you go hmm...)There are still beautiful and reverent Novus Ordo Masses to be found (i.e. St. Peter and Paul, Chattanooga.) Reformed protestant dropping in. Many reformed protestant women veil. Some full time, some while just in church or while in corporate prayer. The answers to veiling are in the Bible. Paul talks about this in 1 Corinthians. I would encourage you to actually read what the Bible says about this issue, instead of relying on weird stories other women tell you.
