This is definitely the weirdest "instrument" I've ever played😬 I came across a video of this guy playing a bagpipe made of a latex glove and straws (or balloon sticks) and decided I wanted to try and make one😂 It was a lot harder than I thought it would be and took 2 days but the result was worth it🙈 Let me know if you want to see more videos like this! Thanks for watching!

You can definitely tell that those glove bagpipe videos from 10 years ago have been making their way back to viral land.
every single one of my band teachers have been doing that eyebrow raise thing and i dont know why. and now you do it too im so confused
Wait what I’m confused 😱
Dw, their minds are connected and have secret telepathic mind pathways to guide themselves of TEH teaching eyebrow what am I even saying now help
It’s like talking with your hands but eyebrows
This is interesting. Bagpipes are an instrument I have severely underestimated for some reason; it's most likely because I rarely hear it in the kinds of music I like listening to, or because it just wasn't presented to me very often. I find it really interesting how they work even if I have no real intention on playing them! :)
You mentioned how when the airflow starts, you can't really stop it and you can't really "articulate" individual notes. Well, yes, that's how bagpipes work. I don't know if you've really listened to bagpipe music much, but bagpipers use what's called "grace notes" to compensate for this, particularly when 2 or more adjacent instances of the same note exist in the song being played. This is done by having one very short note in between the 2 instances of that repeated note.
Also, it's worth pointing out that bagpipes are very unique from most other wind-controlled instruments. With something like a saxophone or a clarinet or flute or whatever, the air coming from your mouth is what causes the instrument to make sound. But with bagpipes, the sound is not produced directly with air from your mouth, but rather by the air coming from the bag as you squeeze it; this is why the instrument is even called "bag" pipes to begin with! The only time you use air from your mouth is when you need to regularly re-inflate the bag while playing; the air coming from the bag that operates the actual pipes causes the bag to deflate pretty quickly, so you have to somehow re-inflate it to keep the sound going for any significant time. So I say using your mouth on the blowpipe to inflate the bag is not entirely different from inflating a balloon; the bag inflates with air like a balloon does, and in turn this air is forced through the pipes as the bag is squeezed! :)
I only point these things out because there are likely some people who don't understand how bagpipes actually work. It sounded like you didn't quite understand it early in the video, but you're not the only one either. I didn't fully understand it myself until I decided to learn about it.
In croatia there is a instrument similar to bagpipes however it doesn't have drones
@@donvito3663 Yeah, I think I've heard of that instrument. Can't remember what it's called though. However, if the instrument you're referring to still uses a bag and one or more pipes, I'd say it's still a bagpipe, not "similar" to bagpipes. I say this because, in reality, "bagpipes" is actually not a name of a specific instrument. Bagpipes are actually a whole category or classification of instruments. Regardless of what you call them by name, they all share the same common trait: they all consist of pipes that are sounded by air emitted from a bag that the player squeezes.
@@donvito3663 Yeah pretty much every country in every country in europe has their own version of the pipes
You need a more stretchy glove and most importantly a check valve in the blowpipe
I was thinking, maybe a check valve for aquariums (you can buy them at pet stores, not very expensive) could help keep the glove inflated a bit longer, or at least give you time to catch your breath... just a thought 🤔
Hahaha, this sounds too legendary xD
It’s definitely different!😂🙈
We made plastic straw reeds in the school cafeteria back in the day - oboe/bassoon nerds showed us lol. Apologies to the lunch ladies.
LOL nice 😂😂
Wow you got it sounding like an actual bagpipe..
It looked and sounded like a living thing :) 👍
This is awesome! It might be less awkward to play if you put the mouthpiece in the index and the cantor in the thumb.
Wow that sounded glorious! 👍👍
Thank you so much!!
This is friggin awesome lol
Hey thanks so much:)
Yes! You did it!
Ayyy couldn’t have done it without you:)
This is great! 💯
Hey thank you so much!🙏🏻🙏🏻
Is there any type of close up on the balloon stick cut? Can’t seem to get that right?!?
Love it... When's the album coming out? 😜
LOL definitely not anytime soon😂
How exactly do I apply the tape on the end of the straw so that it buzzes??
i can make this at work omg
Top marks for perseverance.
Is it possible to see a close-up of the cut on the straws? I tried many times, and I could not get a sound to save my life! 😂
LOL I don’t have any anymore but if you look up “straw recorder” you should be able to see some videos!!
@@FoolishFrankie Awesome! Thanks! 🤗
Strange instrument, but I like it hahaha! ^_^
I know right😂 glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching as always:)
You should use a membrane system its quite easy and isn't too much about tinkering like the straw 😅
Edit: It's.easier than the reed system (I think) I am currently using file folders to make a membrane because I don't have clean pvc pipes to use 😅
You won't need a tutorial either you just need to understand the membrane and everything is up to you the membrane does not need special blowing technique just supply air and it makes sound
The Scotsman in me is both proud and horrified.
The most Scottish DIY ever
😂😂😂
I came here to make it after seeing it at Instagram. I will not do it most likely because, yeah I don't have any of those materials at home. And I don't have the money to just spend. Eh I guess I will just sleep.
Ok...i had to watch this..the title alone got me
I hope it didn’t disappoint!
@@FoolishFrankie it was amazing
@@bluenovacorgi8230 thank you so much!🥺🙏🏻
@@FoolishFrankie welcome ima show this too my friends they will enjoy it 😁
Try two regular latex gloves as a double layer
Well no plastic straws in germany anymore...so no bagpipe for me :(
Same here, only paper/cardboard straw. And it doesn't work with it
Did you end up using the balloon sticks for the drones or are those straws?
Balloon sticks!
I think I got it. I was cutting little flutes instead of the reed. By the way have you looked into cigar box guitars?
yes.. i think those cleaning glove too hard to use.. maybe using standard latex glove like the thing that used in your other video reference could help?
I tried that but those aren’t resistant enough so they don’t vibrate the reed part 😭 maybe I just need higher quality ones
@@FoolishFrankie aaahh i see.. using standard latex glove didnt give the right amount of pressure then? how about double it?
@@qaimbilqisti9343 Ooo that’s a good idea I’ll have to try it!
But how do you cut the end of the sticks though?
Not sure I understand, I think I showed it in the video though
When you cut it bite down on it and make it flat
As a bagpiper this makes me sad😭😭😭
LOL I’m so sorry 😅😂 I want to learn bagpipes but the glovepipe is cheaper 😂
I know what you’re doing wrong. I wish I could tel you, btw I like ur videos
I'm a Scottish canadian don't trigger me
Alba gu Brath!
Idk what this means
Just buy a set of McCallums
But can ye play Scotland the Brave
I tried a little bit at 9:34😂
you have to censore latex and sticks for youtube now?!
for age restriction, or what?
That was just the checkout sound
@@FoolishFrankie 🤣
You didn't tell us how to make the chanter on the end 🤷♂️
This isn’t a tutorial video
why does your brothers voice sound like you? it's so funny and weird at the same time
LOL idk I guess at least you know I’m not lying about him being my brother 😂
Seems you using to thick of a glove so that why its harder to fill up with air
I think you’re right
First view AND comment?
Legend🔥
1st off thats not a latex glove that he wants. its a cleaning work glove..... 90% ur problem
Regular latex didn’t have enough pressure
You dish washing glove is to stiff.
