I tell you what, for Donnie and Jordan to have been those ages, they were so mature in this interview. Donnie clapped back at this Greg character like a pro. Even at his age back then, he really had a way with words.
Damn I'm so beyond glad to see someone notice this about Donnie! It's a shame the media tried to paint them in a false light. Donnie was 10 steps ahead of everybody & always brought the interviews to a very meaningful & intelligent place even when he was being pushed. Beyond rational & truthful for both good & bad points. He was proud of who he was & what he was doing & had nothing to hide & when you challenge a person like this you better be POSITIVE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING cause if not you get demolished like this here. He should've never did this knowing who Donnie was. He is a very different unique person in this world in general. God the news lady knew Donnie was killing him & I guarantee she went into it 100% thinking the opposite. I love how they stood up for themselves! Most groups would have never spoken about this type of thing publicly or would have just released a statement or something. And Donnie makes some really good points! I love that man!

Yes some bands have used tracks but that was once in awhile just to save their voices cause come on could you sing and sing and sing night after night? No! No one is a super human when it comes to performance. It's very hard and exausting. NKOTB were and still are very amazing performers and great examples to the world. They work their butts off to be where they are in the industry. This jack ass just wanted publicity and money. No proof that NKOTB were/are frauds. They performed with every piece of energy they had for their family, fans, & themselves. NKOTB always stand up for themselves and this was just proof again that they were gonna stand up, show physical proof, and protect their music and image. I am proud of them and support them always. I'm especially proud of Jon for getting on stage again. Even though sometimes he can't get himself to sing, it's enough for me that he can step back on stage again. Anxiety Disorder is no joke and very hard to over come. It never goes away. A person on a daily basis, struggle their whole life to fight it. Even back then I could see he was either shy or going through something tough. Very proud of you Jon and so very proud of NKOTB for fighting together and always staying the same...THEMSELVES.

I’m the Biggest nkotb fan ever! They honestly altered my life forever the 1time I saw them. I say this so you know I’m not just talking shit.
They sang all of their leads 100% but Maurice did sing background vocals on their songs. Jordan also did cause he was an incredible singer. I record music & I do my own background vocals but sometimes I also have other singers do them with me cause different voices compliment each other. A lot of artists do the same thing sometimes so there’s nothing unusual, deceitful or shady with Maurice doing them. Damn this is a Long comment lol sorry.

I'm grateful to them for all they've done for us these long years, and I'm very happy they're still with us and still going strong. I'm just sorry they had to put up with all that bullshit at all. Charge of Musical Fakery Retracted

The former music director of New Kids on the Block
has retracted his charge that the group was involved in musical fakery
and dropped a breach-of-contract lawsuit against the group's founder.
The former music director, Gregory McPherson, who
also produced the group's records for two years, said in a statement
released last week: "The allegations that I made regarding New Kids on
the Block lip-synching were untrue. They did sing lead on their albums."
Mr. McPherson publicly made the claims of fakery and
filed the lawsuit in January. He retracted them at a news conference in
Boston that he held with the group's founder, Maurice Starr. In an
interview yesterday, Mr. McPherson said he was "not in a position to
make any other comment because our negotiations are still going on."
But in a separate interview, Mr. Starr said Mr.
McPherson had called him "and wanted to end all the lies." He said the
two would work together on projects, but not with the New Kids.
"He will produce some gospel music and score films,"
Mr. Starr said. "We will continue our working relationship and he's
going to make money from that." When asked if there had been an
out-of-court settlement, Mr. Starr said: "It wasn't about that. We were
all very prayerful and let prayer lead the way."
Mr. McPherson, who was the New Kids' music director
and producer for two years until December 1990, asserted last January
that the group contributed no more than 20 percent of the singing on any
of their albums.
He contended that Mr. Starr and his brother, Michael
Johnson, did the rest. Mr. Starr founded the group and still manages
it, though he is not a member. Mr. McPherson also maintained that New
Kids did none of the singing in a Coca-Cola commercial in which they
appeared in 1990 and that they went on tour with an eight-track tape to
supplement their singing.
In his suit against Mr. Starr, Mr. McPherson said
that he was not paid for producing soundtracks for the group's video
"Hanging Tough Live" and television commercials for it, and that the
group's managers had not given him formal credit for his creative
contributions. He said at the time that he had not include his
allegations of fakery in the lawsuit because he had been a part of it
himself. Other Suit Continues
In February, the New Kids filed a defamation suit
against Mr. McPherson, charging that his claims about the group were
false and defamatory and were made to injure the New Kids for Mr.
McPherson's private gain. Leonard L. Lewin, the group's lawyer, said
that despite Mr. McPherson's retraction, the defamation suit would not
be dropped. That suit, filed in Massachusetts Superior Court in Boston,
asks the court for an unspecified amount in punitive damages.
"It doesn't change anything as far as the New Kids'
suit," Mr. Lewin said. "I said from the beginning this was a bunch of
malarkey, and I was right. This makes the New Kids' suit look pretty
good."

Well, this was entertaining lol! Towards the end of the 90s & onwards, most of their performances were live. It's funny because when NKOTB split & the 90s boyband craze started, they were all lip-syncing way more often than NKOTB did but no-one cared, it was just accepted.
And it's even more accepting now.

This reporter around the 0:55 to 1:05 mark says that New Kids on the Block admitted that they lip sing back in 89, that is such a joke! They have never never lip synced ever. This guy was one of the guys that worked on the music and in another different interview Joey talks about how this guy just wanted money because New Kids on the Block got so big. Also, this whole shenanigan was right around the time when Milli Vanilli did actually get caught lip singing at a concert, so then everyone thought it was an industry wide scandal, and of course, they would falsely accuse and attack the biggest names in the industry at that time-New Kids on the Block. Also, by the time "no more games," album came out- the title of the song alone tells it, a little bit of it, and and the title of the album "the kids get hard mix" also tell (very) briefly the story. And in the intro of "Face the Music," album as well, when they shortened their name to the abbreviated: NKOTB.
Let me clarify that New Kids on the Block said that they used tracks but that wasn't the same thing as lip synching it! There microphones were always still on and they voiced out every single note!

John was just as good as Jordan but didn't like the lead role. Joey was a decent singer while Danny & Donnie were not that strong & they never claimed to be. You know they stopped using full playback during 2nd half of Hsngin Tough tour if you watched their 1st ppv concert. Go listen to the cover girl performance & you will see they are singing cause some notes are atrocious! Still one the best bands EVER!!!!

Dr. Greg McPherson wrote "Hang Tough" and won a Grammy. He was a child prodigy, is a musical genius, performed with numerous Symphonies, extremely generous, and one of the most gifted musicians Ive ever met. He would arrange our songs, transpose, play instruments, record and write the manuscript for our songs free! And never asked us for one red cent! He is a man of honor and integrity. I have not heard from him in years, but consider Dr. McPherson a friend for life!
