I'm no film expert. I go back and watch acclaimed work when I'm in the mood. I watched this years ago and was fascinated upon the first viewing. I had to watch it again the very next night. I've never felt compelled to do that before. A genius of visual presentation and an artist deeply familiar with the human psyche.
It’s my fave film! Trailer makes it look like a thriller or horror film. It’s really more like a surreal painting that the viewer can apply their own meanings to. Women, especially, should watch it.

Another great director, like Stanley Kubrick, made films that are far more accessible than his. Watching two people talking and being emotional for 90 minutes just isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Bergman is easily my favourite director, but even I will put on something else if I'm to just eat snacks and have a great time. I LOVE his work (I have a signed Persona DVD on my shelf in my living room, signed by Liv Ullmann in 2019 before one of her shows), and I find his films enjoyable, but I don't consider them popcorn films exactly. I just love how his films make me think + how emotional they are. When I bring out the snacks, I want to see action, not two people having an emotional moment for 90 minutes haha.

It's a great film and I doubt you will find it very scary. Maybe avoid "Cries and Whispers" if you're squeamish but for "Persona" I think you will be fine.
Finally can check this film off my _To Watch_ list, but it's something I would never go back and visit again. Glacial in pace and disappointing story-wise. The two women did not exchange identities (everyone said that this notion was the premise of the movie) even though there are moments when it seems they might have; but the whole idea is not explored in an interesting way. For me it was all very dry and lifeless. And I don't care for stuff that's artsy or heady for the sake of it ... the "repeated scene" is annoying, and entirely too trippy, feeling like a gimmick. Oh, well. I liked "The Virgin Spring" a lot more.

This is when cinema reaches its highest artistic level. This is def one of the best movies ever! Sadly few ppl know about it.
A lot of people knows about this. It’s one of the most famous Bergman films, and Bergman is a pretty big deal.
