Hey Paul I am loving this project! If you are so inclined, I hope that when you demo the old house you will look into promoting the Restores that are run by Habitat for Humanity. So many shows just throw everything in the dumpster. You have a big following and people respect you so you would be an awesome ambassador for their great cause. Thanks again for sharing this project with us. I am learning a lot!

@@evictioncarpentry2628 I'd have extremely little tolerance for pushback from a donation orginazation. The only allowance would be if they were actually picking it up, in which case it's reasonable to make sure that someone's just not trying to offload trash onto them.
even if not restore but another building recycle/resell, i love shopping at those places to find things that are just not affordable/financially good investment otherwise (all 3 of my bathroom sinks) for my mobile home
At minimum, put some stuff at the end of the driveway with a "free" sign on it.

Same here! I took my Dads building skills for granted thinking he would be around forever. Well, now I'm building on my own and its just not the same without my Dad.
Wish I had a Dad that taught me stuff.. my boss right now taught me more than anyone about construction.

We hit 500K on my dad's birthday. He's gone now but would have been proud 👍💪👊
Thanks for reminding me. I actually had this pleasure once myself, long ago, for an addition, though neither of us were builders really.
I'm not terribly nostalgic or sentimental generally. But I gotta say these videos do make me miss my dad. He passed in 2012 at 83. He was an aerospace engineer, but also a DIY-everything guy. Paul reminds me of him a bit from when I was young in his tone, mannerisms, and general way of being. Heh. 🙂 Keep up the great work guys. Rock and roll! 🤘

perkins used to be good now its all just timelapses and too much talking. There used to be more raw quality to the videos that was great its just to overedited now.
A nice thing about the big windows ibn front is you should be able to deliver the sheetrock through them.

You mentioned taping from the top down. However, if you tape from the bottom up water will have a seamless path to the ground
Wait a minute. If the tape overlapped I could see taping from the ground up as you say but nothing overlaps here so it doesn’t make sense. What do you think now?
@@michikoiesaka3365 The horizontal seams cause small gaps. From my research, it is best to tape a low vertical, then connect all horizontals. Then the next set of verticals will be on top of all the seams

I'm sure you are quite busy, but at some point would love a video explaining the financials of this, i.e., how you can stop working on customer projects and solely build this entire house. I assume YT is a big part of being able to do this, but a video to explain would be great!

It's crazy to see the Evolution of the Channel, I've been watching for quite some time, seen every video, but I started watching not long after ya'll started doing videos. To see Paul going from super nervous on Camera and barely talking to now being super comfortable and fluid, its awesome. Also from doing smaller bathroom remodels, to full room, kitchen, living room, and now the House/Garage build! Jordan and Rad are also gaining massive knowledge and skills on every project as you guys go on, thats invaluable. I'm not forgetting the editing either, Jordan does a great job and only gets better each video. It's truly awesome to be able to watch and see the progress. Keep up the good work guys, I can't wait to see the future videos on the Studpack House. 😀

Shear wall edge nailing every 3 - 4 inches is critical.
I think because of the ZIP system, the spacing is different.
@@1packatakzip sheathing is not as strong as plywood sheathing, so the nails should actually be closer!!

i'm kinda amazed such a thing even exists. I always figured they made all the scaffolding in the world in like 1972 and have never made any more.
What I think the greatest thing is besides how great he works with his son and I think that's his son-in-law that his knowledge is Way Beyond and you make sure everything is done the right way

Thats a siding nailer btw. Not great for sheathing, hence the underdriven nails. You want the framing coil gun, loaded with 8d ringshanks. But, if your going with hardie plank siding, it will work great! Love ya'll!

looks great guys!! only thing I would mention is that there should be a mud sill under the screw jack for the scaffold. create a wider base so if it rain the scaffold won't sink on ya. take care and keep it up!

Something we do when we're doing setting up scaffolding on the outside of a building is we give it a very slight (1-2 degrees) lean to it towards the building, so if it does fall for any reason whatsoever, it falls towards the building instead of away, giving it an added safety.
At every seam between zip R sheets, the specs call for nails every six to 8 inches for meeting a normal wind shear. I had to install blocking between the studs at the horizontal seams to meet the Huber nailing guide. Perhaps your wind load is less in Texas than mine in Pennsylvania Poconos mountains. When you build the house, make sure you have something to nail into at every seam. Of course, it’s easier to put the blocking between studs before you sheath.
They're in hurricane country: there will be plenty of wind loads to worry about.

I've been a carpenter / remodeler for 43 years. Everything this guy tells you is spot on. LISTEN to him !! I just ran across the channel last week and I'm suffering from sleep depravation from trying to go back and watch every dang one of their videos. I feel like you guys definitely took notes from the BUILD channel. Going to be epic! I hope you do solar and power walls so you're not reliant on the grid, while also being super efficient due to all the insulation and being air toight.
That horizontal area above the stairs could be a great attic storage for ammo and such for the zombie apocalypse. Just put the flooring on it and you have storage out of sight. Just an idea.

You guys are AWESOME!!!! I luvvvvvvv wathching Stud Pack!!! I don't watch many movies or TV series but I luvvvvv watching Stud Pack videos!!!! Wish I could do my life over again and be a finish carpenter rather than a Library worker.
Paul has so much knowledge and experience, making building look easy. Love tuning in to the videos and watching this go up. Small suggestion for the roof, add some permanent roof anchors. Wish I would have had some put in when my roof was replaced.

Scaffolding is the way to go and a good set will see you thru thousands of jobs.👍 As a kid I used scaffolding all the time w my dad and didn’t realize how lucky we were and how much harder those jobs would have been if we’d had to work off a pair of ladders instead. Having that stability under you when you’re lifting a full sheet or a trying to align two boxes on opposite sides of the house is a big deal. Hopefully that $2k makes big dividends for the Stud Pack Team.

As an eastern european i got amazed how fast you can build from wood. And good work for you guys!
In my home country 99.9% of construction is brick and mortar, so it is surprising how fast wood framing is, but also how much more complicated it is. I also feel like concrete and brick is way more durable; no mold or termites or wood rot. I’m surprised there is not more brick and mortar used in the US.
@robbbbbie12 it's pressure treated lumber. Treated with chemicals to reduce damage. Also, you don't get wood rot because the wood does not touch moisture through the soil because of the concrete pad. Most houses built here in America are built on a concrete slab and older houses were built with a brick or block foundation, and the wood sits about 6 inches off the ground aside from the pillars which are usually encased in cement

@@robbbbbie12wood is readily available and cheaper. It’s also much easier to upgrade or modify with wood structures vs block/concrete. Both have their place though
Hey just a suggestion but if you are having the roof sheething delivered, maybe it can be put through one of the big windows upstairs. Stack it on the floor. Then we would leave a 2 x 4 foot hole in the roof to pass up playwood through the trusses. Youll have to find a way down once you put the last 2x4 piece in. We had a fork lift. Maybe an extention ladder
I thought I heard Paul say that the trusses were going to be pre-sheathed before they are installed. Maybe I missed something, but I think that's the plan.

studpack team , that pipe you cut .. being dark on the inside.. its acid etched .. from the leaves sitting in the water.. think like a Tea .. more common with oaks ... ever seen a small pond lined with oaks be black and yet clear at the same time.. I think its tannic acids ..

A few things...I notice you're having to pound a few nails that aren't sinking in all the way...maybe kick the air pressure up a bit???
Big concern. I appreciate all your forethought on the air seal...what about rainfall on the second floor? Will there be anywhere for drainage to go??? Might want to think about it...
And for your trusses...you will need a crane, plan on it.

The garage is looking great, guys. So great, in fact, that I'd like to share a tip. Hold the nailer firmly against the surface through the full shot including the recoil, and it will sink the nail to the correct depth. Pulling the nailer away during the recoil is why you have to go back over them with a hammer.

Piece of advice: ditch the router bit you're using and grab a panel pilot bit, it's literally what they're made for. But aside from that, great video again as usual 👍
“It’s all black inside. What is that?” Leaves fell in the pipe when it was full of water and steeped in the sun into a lovely strong tea. The pipe is stained with tannins like an old tea pot.
As a safety professional, thank you for making sure the scaffold was square, level and plumb. Please consider using some PFAS when you handle the roof. Be safe!
It's great to see things coming together. I really like the attention to detail you are giving this project and I wish contractors up here did even half this much. The scaffolding was a great idea, though the safety guy in me would love to see some horizontal braces on the front of that setup to give a railing and increase the lateral stability of the scaffold, especially as you get up to the third and higher levels. Also, don't forget to use mud sills underneath your screw jacks. It's not so critical when it's sunny, but any soft ground will settle under the small footprint of those jacks. A 1' piece of 2x12 would be enough to help spread that load out a lot.
I'm surprised you made it home with the scaffolding. After strapping it down, you didn't hit it and say, "That's not going anywhere," unless it was done off camera.

Sheathing looks good. Now for the criticism. Scaffolding over 6 ft requires handrail. I know it’s hot but you have already documented a safety hazard. Somebody falls and the insurance company tells you”AMF”. 2. Put your bags on. If you’re going to be a carpenter,be a carpenter. 3. Put 6-8 nails in a sheet and press on. I can hear my old boss screaming about “ a dollar waiting on a dime. Jordan can fill the perimeter and field during his off hours. Tie a tag line on the scaffold to pull up the nailer. Now for Pop’s. Break out your Amex etc and buy a real handheld saw. Skil 77 with mag frame and a 50 foot cord. But other than that keep up the good work. In spite of my keyboard rant I do enjoy the videos. Not a keyboard warrior. Been there done that got the scars and worn out joints from selling my body to the job.
That scaffolding sure is pretty!
Guys I suggest that when cutting, routing, and planing the manufactured structural wall and floor panels that you wear a respirator. The dust from the glue/resins/chemicals and sawdust is terrible for the lungs.
I think your order of operations makes sense, based on how you are doing the job. Also, the long walls would be pretty damned heavy if you pre-sheathed them. Doable, but you might have needed extra hands or a wall jack, so I think you have done quite well. (But I admit, I am a handy fellow, not a construction worker.) All that said, thanks for the content. I get a kick out of watching other people work!
I like how they connected the walls with vertical sheets. Definitely adds to the rigidity.
If you do this for a living you may have some techniques to make it faster but I think they are doing great and also not cutting any corners.
You guys should probably secure that scaffold to the garage wall, especially when you need to go higher up. Safety first! Good video as always, keep it up
