Now most of the audiences have access to world cinema, thanks to internet and OTT platforms unlike it was in 2005.
They are experiencing movies of different genres, different style of film making, smartly written screenplay, and reviewers like you who explain all nuances of film making, plus and minuses of those movies. So, they are enriched with good knowledge and they are not ready to accept any mediocre films now.
Though movies like Jawan, Pathaan despite veing mediocre films are becoming box office hits because of the star power and Bollywood is trying to revive themselves. But if SRK again gives one more movie like it, it's for sure will bite the dust. That's why his next release Dunki is with a director like Rajkumar Hirani who is a good story teller sans any mass masala.
Coming back to our Kollywood, in the recent past Raghava Lawrence didn't got any big hits. His movies, even the last Kanchana series also didn't do well in the box office when compared to his other Kanchana series films.
Kangana Ranaut is a wonderful actress who can perform well provided the characterization is well written.
Being a sequel, they could have explored the backstory of Chandramukhi or Vettaya Raja more rather than rehashing the same Chandramukhi story.
The surprise element of Chandramukhi movie itself was about the multiple personality disorder ( Schizophrenia) of the character Durga played by Jyothika which gets revealed to the audience only in the pre-climax portion.
Audience will lap up any movie, even if it is a simple story or it is a mass masala, provided it entertains them and is an enjoyable one. If a film fails to do so, then it's going to be a dud in the box office for sure.
Even big film stars and directors have understood that now. You cannot take audience for granted anymore.
@Arun Sir - I think you could have watched Mammootty's Kannur Squad rather than this one.
