  • It took a while to work out the steps as the instruction manual was rubbish. So, first attempt for this vid. And, I know it isn't a "park" symbol, no idea why I said that...!

    I read somewhere that if you cannot find launch control in the owners manual of the iDrive then it's not coded for it. All features and options that don't come with the car won't show up in the iDrive. I didn't bother doing it as I don't want to ruin the car. Can you check to see if you can pull up Launch Control in owners manual search in iDrive?

    • @wussyd
      @wussyd  Před 7 lety +2

      That is a fair point. I didn't cover that, sorry. You need to release the brake within three seconds of getting the "Launch Control" words on the dash.

    • @bodrulm1
      @bodrulm1 Před 7 lety

      wussyd Do you aim for a specific RPM e.g. 4000? There must be an optimum that the system can calculate depending on the conditions of the surface.

    • @wussyd
      @wussyd  Před 7 lety +1

      bodrulm1 No, the electronics does all that for you. If you have the "Launch Control" come up on the dash, then the launch control system will regulate the engine speed and aggressiveness of the traction control for the surface conditions.

    • @wussyd
      @wussyd  Před 6 lety

      Hey. It seems to be the Sports+ that has the Launch Control so I don't think you will find it on yours unfortunately. Best way to check is the onboard User Manual as it is personalised for the features of your car. If you don't find it in the electronic manual, then it isn't available.

    • @wussyd
      @wussyd  Před 7 lety +1

      It should be. As far as I know, it is available on all those with the Steptronic Sports Auto gearbox which does seem to be the standard option on the 330d. Best check is to search for Launch Control in the iDrive owners manual. If it is shown, it should be available.

    So would you then floor it and take the left foot off the break?

    • @wussyd
      @wussyd  Před 6 lety +1

      Your accelerator is on the floor anyway, so you do just release the brakes. The electronics take the brunt and work out the most appropriate power and traction for the conditions.

    • @WeAre-ip5ud
      @WeAre-ip5ud Před 5 lety

    2014 328i xdrive. I don’t have sport+ mode. If my car doesn’t have sport + mode it automatically mean doesn’t have launch control?

    • @dimmacommunication
      @dimmacommunication Před 6 lety

      Jaden Park I think so :) people with old torque converter cars with no launch control used to brake boost the car to launch it.
      You press the brake pedal and the gas pedal for a sec and release it.
      I don't advise it tho.

    • @five1088
      @five1088 Před 6 lety

      dimmacommunication mine is 2014 is it older torque converter than one in the video?

    • @dimmacommunication
      @dimmacommunication Před 6 lety

      Jaden Park Nope, it's still the ZF-8 gears right? but I think that not having the sport+ mode maket it unable to do this.
      You can brake boost as I said,but it gives the transmission a lot of stress, in extreme sistuations it can even break ,so be aware of it.

    • @MotionPlays
      @MotionPlays Před 6 lety +3

      You have to have the sports transmission for launch control which is an option on most BMWs. Even though it's the same 8 speed ZF box for the normal and sports, the sports transmission has the flappy paddles on the wheel. Basically no flappy paddles then no launch control

    is this a dual clutch gearbox or a regular automatic?

    • @wussyd
      @wussyd  Před 7 lety +2

      It's the regular 8-Speed ZF "Sports Automatic" box. I think that the DCT is only available on the M cars, although I may be wrong...

    • @sippe3985
      @sippe3985 Před 6 lety +3

      it puts huge amount of stress on the car. if you use this every day you will break your car. its intended to only use very occasionaly.

    • @sippe3985
      @sippe3985 Před 6 lety

      some cars even go as far and say you can only use launch control 5 times after that you will void your warranty.

    • @lume.3887
      @lume.3887 Před 6 lety +4

      It's fine for DCT or a non torque converter auto, but it puts huge stress on the torque converter, as it's engaged whilst your applying lots of power, and literally only the break is holding you back, you can see how the car will roll forward as the engine overpowers the breaking force, whereas with DCT transmissions, the clutch is disengaged and no strain is put on the drivetrain

      Thanks dimmacommunication, I agree, it is launch control, the BMW book says it is. However, I am aware that purists have a different view of Electronic intervention vs foot feel launch: Electronic launch can be seen as cheating. However, we BMW drivers need all the help we can get apparently, so all praise the BMW electronic gods.
