  • Today I'm unboxing the Redragon K656 PRO 3-Mode wireless RGB gaming keyboard. This keyboard blew me away with its 100 keys, translucent board, hot-swappable sockets, sound absorbing foam & custom tactile switches. The build quality, switch sound and feel, and impressive features are definitely worth consideration.

    that was a very good video. I just got my k656 pro today and am playing with the software. It does need to be connected to USB to show up in the software.

    No need for battery if you connect via USB right? I'd like to color each keep for short cuts etc... Very well made video btw. Thanks.

    I have this keyboard - I bought it when it was new to Amazon - and I am still trying everything I can to make it usable.
    I hate the purple switches. There's no consistency, each switch sounds different, and they're more "clack" than "thock", by a long shot. The keycaps feel cheap and for some reason look and feel like double-shot ABS to me (not PBT) [also, are your legends raised like stickers?,] and the standard caps contribute to that clack a lot. The switch on its own has an almost bearable click-ish sound, but again, there is no consistency. Mine doesn't seem to dampen sound well at all; I feel like I can hear every single bit of plastic inside it.
    I've tried replacing the stock switches with Gateron G Yellow Pro 3.0s but even those are too loud in this amplifier of a body, so my next move, unless I go Office Space on it first, is to replace all the switches with whatever reds I can find (I have some RKs mainly, from keyboards I replaced them on), and then I'll fill the gaps (the keys I don't use often like F1-12 and the numpad) with my leftover RK yellows.
    Then, I'm going to remove the sticky foam feet that are stupidly hiding the screws to remove the back of the case, and I'm going to do the tape mod with a heat-resistant (safe for the battery) sound dampening tape that's used in engines. I know that will screw me on the beautiful translucent LED appearance, but if I can actually use this keyboard instead of staring at it angrily and growling every day, I'd consider that an improvement.

      I fixed the noise level by purchasing the Redragon switches ROSE A120 (silent linears - about 20 bucks per 70). I used them for the alpha keys and the number bar, and whatever extra keys I hit frequently, especially while gaming. I used leftovers for everything else, including Redragon STARS A120 (same price - silent tactiles) for the numpad and spare reds for the rest. Reds are still annoyingly loud. The cherry profile PBT keycaps I want are something like $43, so I'm dying thinking of spending almost $140 on a keyboard I'm basically struggling to use and like, but I need it to be my gaming keyboard because my main RK M70 has all STARS in it and it's slower than linears for gaming, but so nice for writing/typing, which I do A LOT of. (Did I mention how hard it is to find a decent color keycap for the blue body of this keyboard? I'm looking at one that creates a night landscape and sky scene with extra caps that just happen to line up almost perfectly, lots of blues and purples, which shine-through legends. They're gorgeous, but as mentioned probably too much $.)
      I hope this helps someone out there.

    Looks like the keycaps don't show the led backlit's light behind the alphabets. Is that right?

    • @shePhoenyx
      @shePhoenyx Před 3 měsíci +1

      Correct, they're not shine-through. Based on my experience, they don't feel or wear like PBT, either, but more like ABS (they develop a shine with wear). AND, because it's not a full 100% form-factor, it's very difficult to find aftermarket keycaps that fit every key.

      The mouse pad is epic. Unfortunately I can’t find it on Amazon anymore to share a link.
