  • Here's Part 2 in the "Letting Go" While Singing Series
Do you struggle with letting go when singing? You are not alone. In this series, I am sharing “letting go” ideas that work for my clients and me.
In this video… video #2 I give you ways to let go physically…
and here’s the link to the first video in the series in case you missed it.
    • Singers - Having Troub...
To find your letting go formula, it’s helpful to identify what is physically happening when you don’t feel you can let go. What is showing up for you in your body? This description will be different for everyone.
So take a moment and put yourself in that performance mode when you felt a little locked up… not as free as you wanted to be to share your voice.
Describe what this feels like…if you can, write it down… we will come back to your description later. Where is the tightness showing up in the body?
It may be the obvious place… your voice… gripping or tightness in your throat… sometimes it may feel like an overall sensation…the inability to move freely or the restriction may show up in your chest, solar plexus…shoulders…neck…the breath may feel tight…identify what’s going on for you.
Watch the video as we brainstorm ideas of what to do physically to allow “letting go”.
    Have fun with these ideas.
Join me in the next video for Part 3
Until next time…Rejoice In your voice!

I had to come back and comment. I watched this video a few days ago, but just got the chance to put it into practice. OMG it helped so much!! I'm singing much more effortlessly from just moving around a bit instead of holding a rigid "perfect" posture. I just hit a couple of high notes that I'd been straining to reach, and it felt like no effort at all. I've always struggled with "trying too hard" when I sing, and you solved it. THANK YOU TRICIA 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Wow. I had a vocal coach tell me to let go a couple of years okay when I did a session. I really didn’t know what he meant. I was under the impression that he maybe thought I couldn’t sing and to let go of it. After seeing and understanding this video I realized that I have been restricting myself from my true potential. When I sing along to music or was getting tutored for a singing class I also realized I had more energy and was louder. When I sing alone without accompaniment or when I am afraid I feel weak and I start to doubt myself as a singer. If I just open up and treat singing as if it were a wild party and really get into it and not be so judgemental of my voice I would be a much better singer. Thank you for this series! I really need it. ❤️

Thank you for sharing! I bet you are right... I am sure that coach was wanting you to "let go" and and be more loose and open vocally :) I can relate to your words... that feeling of being about to let go in certain circumstances... and then in others feeling so vulnerable and tight. Crazy isn't it!?!? Because it's all what we make that situation mean in our brain. I am with you about being less judgmental of ourselves and having more fun. It's a journey and process... and even after singing all these years there are times I still have to remind myself to let go , have a good time and forget about what others may think about my voice. It's brave to share our soul through song. Keep doing it! Keep going there! I'm cheering for you! Thanks for watching.

... I also been practicing letting go when I'm speaking since I notice I have a differently placed voice when I'm out in public

Good day Patricia how are you doing, I was wondering do you still stay in touch with the other delegates from Miss America. Also did you hear about Jeni Stephens Miss Tennessee 1996.
