A QNA would be nice
Also congrats on the 1k subs dawg! Welcome to the club 😎
Haha thanks!!
Great video! I really need to start reading more King. I’ve only read The Stand. I liked it but that was a few years ago.
Thanks! Wow! I can’t believe you started with his biggest book! He’s got a lot of great ones that don’t require as much of a time commitment lol!
I enjoy reading short stories from time to time but I prefer a longer novel. My favorite SK short story collection so far is Night Shift. I haven't read You Like It Darker yet but I really want to read Rattlesnakes and most of the stories sound interesting. There's still many SK books I need to read but it's hard to decide which one to pick next lol. Congrats again on 1K subscribers, a Q&A would be great.
Thanks so much!! You’ll probably enjoy You Like It Darker much more than I did. I’m just not a short story guy…
Q&A sounds fun!
I think you make many valid points. Short stories are not for everyone. I have read all of King's previous short story collections and (in my opinion) all contain a few good, a few mediocre & a few weak entries. Of course, that definitely depends on the taste of the reader. I, personally, like his longer works much better. I believe that in both long & short works, my favorite thing he does is write a realistic, believable setting. That is what draws me in...beyond that, the plot can work for me or not, but it is rare that I don't find myself drawn into the setting/world he creates to the degree that it doesn't feel like fiction. Thanks as always for sharing your thoughts!
I totally agree with you! Sometimes I just feel like with a short story, Stephen king doesn’t have enough pages to paint that picture that we all know he’s good at doing. For that reason, I’ll probably stick with his longer novels for now!
Congrats, again on the 1k subscribers, you deserve them and more! Would love to see a bookshelf tour.
I'll be curious about that Rattlesnakes video.
Thank you!! I might just have to do a bookshelf tour then!
@@ShadysideLibrary You're welcome! And yay!
Congratulations on 1,000 subscribers! I think a Q&A would be fun. Love the buttons and bookmarks! What a bummer that this book was a drag! I was guessing it was because they were short stories before you said that. I struggle with short stories too. I do really love that cover though. I do better with his novels that are normal length that aren’t a thousand pages but are like 300-500 pages but aren’t short stories either.
Thank you!! A Q&A sounds fun!
We definitely have similar taste when it comes to king. Shoot me a message on Instagram and I’ll get you some bookmarks!
I like the idea of a Q & A. You can do Fear Street, Point Horror, Middle Grade books for the giveaway.
Sounds good!!
Congratulations on 1000! 🎉Great video!
Thanks so much!
I just finished a Pike book that was a drag, took me a week to get through a 200 page book lol.
Secret Window, Secret Garden (Four Past Midnight) and Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption (Different Seasons) are a couple of my favorite short stories by King.
Congrats on 1K!! 🎉
Thank you!!
Which Pike book?!
And I’ve heard those stories are incredible!
@@ShadysideLibrary The Immortal 😱 I knew I wouldn’t love it because I tried to read it in middle school and couldn’t get through it but wanted to give it a chance as an adult. The tagline and synopsis on the back is a little misleading as well
@@amanda_c. Christopher Pike taglines are always misleading lol! And that’s actually a book I haven’t read yet!
Congrats on the milestone!
Thanks so much Claude!!
Congrats on 1k it’s absolutely amazing
Thank you!
Congrats on hitting 1K!!! 🥳 🎉 ✌🏻
Thanks so much!! 👻💛
Great review man! I'm right there with you - this book is a drag, and I'm only the first few stories in.
King USED to be really good at short stories - when they were actually short instead of 50-100 page novellas, lol. Night Shift is my all time favorite King book, I've read it about 3 or 4 times now lol.
There are also some pretty good stories in Skeleton Crew, but in Nightmares and Dreamscapes the short storytelling quality starts to decline IMO, and I even DNFd that one, and honestly, might DNF You Like it Darker
Thank you!
I appreciate all of the insight on his collections. It’ll probably be a while before I pick up another one but when I do, skeleton crew will be at the top of my list!
I’m sorry this book was a drag, don’t think I’ll pick this one up. I’m glad you liked rattlesnakes though! Congrats on 1k subs, I love your content! Any video you want to do I’ll always watch.
Thanks so much Josh!!
Stephen King books can be hit or miss sometimes so it’s ok! I’m still glad I read it.
I'm also not a short story lover. I'm sorry this didn't work out for you. I know you were really looking forward to it. I haven't read or seen Cujo - I'd love to get to that this summer!
You definitely have to mentally prepare for Cujo, it’s quite heavy. But, very well written. Perfect for summer.
Idea for some future vlogs: Books that share certain horror themes or locations, etc. Monsterblood did a cool one about horror sub genres. You could do one about books that take place at carnivals/circuses, or revenge beyond the grave type novels, or (my all time fav) monster themed novels
im finishing up SK Needful things.. its a long one but its sooo worth it!
I’ve been itching to read that one! It’s definitely huge but I heard it’s the ultimate Castle Rock story!
Amazing video
Night Shift might be a good palette cleanser after this, I think that's his best short fiction collections, for me, it starts with a back to back 5 star stories and I only find just one bad story in that one.
I can't wait to read this one, I've actually read The Turbulence Expert before in a seperate collection called Flight or Fright and that collection as a whole was terrible. can't wait to reread that in here. lol
Fingers crossed I enjoy Night Shift more. That’s definitely the next collection I’ll go for. But for now, I’m going to stick to his novels. I’m sure you’ll like this book much more than I did! Most people do!
I'll see about it, I dont know about King's newer short stories. I may be a more fan of his newer novels but I have to dive first to judge on his modern collections
Cool video, Zack! You sound like you weren’t too thrilled with this one. However I can’t help but notice that you have 3/5 stars as the lowest rating for some of these stories. To me, a 3 star rating means that it was worth a read or worth a watch. Is that how you feel about a 3 star rating as well?
Thank you!! I tend to give the books I read the benefit of the doubt lol. In other words, 3 stars isn’t very good to me. If I enjoy it and recommend it, I’ll rate it 4 or 5 stars. It is very rare that I rate a book as low as 1 or 2 stars. It has to be really bad for me to do that. The writing in this book wasn’t bad, I just found it a bit boring and not as memorable as his other works.
The stories were very hit and miss for me. I thought Rattlesnakes and The Answer Man were very good. But some of the other stories were very forgettable. I really recommend Night Shift and Skeleton Crew, those 2 collections have some of his best stories, IMO.
I agree with you. I’ll probably take a break from the short stories for a while but when I jump back in I’ll probably most likely pick up Night Shift!!
What are you doing with Nancy free books you must collect anything maybe I should get mine out of the attic
@@libbygreen9919 I still love Nancy Drew! I just keep discovering new books and haven’t gotten the chance to revisit the series in a little while. I’ll have to pick one up and read it here pretty soon. They’re always pleasant and easy to read
You need to read Night Shift and Different Seasons.
@@johnkaufman5474 That’s what I’ve heard. My dad loved Different Seasons, but I tend to prefer the darker stories, so I’ll probably read Night Shift next.
oh.. i havent read this ...YET
Although it wasn’t my favorite, it’s still got some good stories in it! I hope you enjoy!!
I liked Danny’s bad dream Wille the wredio was quite rubbish I thought and fifth step wasn’t very good first story was ok but could have been bit longer I haven’t read others yet
I loved Rattlesnakes and Laurie. Tbh the second half of the book really wasn’t bad at all! The beginning was just a drag for me. I hope you like the second half as much as I did!
