Another useful video, thank you. Does anyone use the ProCamera app these day?

Ian - thanks for the nice comment and a great question too. One of my favorite mobile creators, David Addison, has reviewed the app positively. Perhaps I should add it to my list of apps to review! Are you a ProCamera user? What are your favorite features? Based on my cursory read through the app page on the iOS store I'm not overly impressed.

I’ve just been doing some trials with Beastcam
I filmed a 2 minute video, then a 10 minute one, on the iPhone native camera app and also again, using Beastcam.
For some reason neither of the Beastcam videos show up on the normal ‘photo’ folder on my iPhone, although they can be seen via the Beastcam app.
I tried to Wattsapp them to my Nokia phone (also installed on my Windows 10 pc) .. the 2 minute one worked OK, but the 10 minute was shortened to about 3 minutes only
I tried using a USB cable to access the videos directly, both native camera videos are available on the DCIM folder of the phone and could be transferred to my video editing software, but neither of the Beastcam videos are even visible.
    I’m confused

Brian, in my experience, getting long videos off the phone is the toughest bit of mobile filmmaking. One of the reasons I prefer Apple is because the AirDrop feature in conjecture with my Mac makes the whole process much easier.
I recommend trying to find software that allows you to 'airdrop' your iPhone videos onto your Windows. I don't have experience doing this, though, so unfortunately I don't have any recommendations.

Do either allow you to fix the ISO and leave shutter on auto?

Both allow you to adjust ISO. I don't entirely understand what you mean by saying leave shutter on auto. Can you provide some clarification? I'd love to help!

@@photoswithphones thanks. I know you can set exposure manually ie both ISO and shutter, with the lens having a fixed invariable aperture, but I would like to be able to fix the ISO at a low number and leave the camera to set the shutter according to the light . That is what one can do on a DSLR because one can have each of the aperture, shutter and ISO individually set either on auto or manual. Unless I am looking for a particular cine look, needing to set a low shutter speed and cut the light with an ND filter, I would like to set the IS0 manually and let the camera do the rest automatically.

Philip - gotcha. I use BeastCam for the most part and I definitely know this can be done in the app. You can lock all or some settings while allowing others to remain in auto. Seeing as the app includes options for Shutter Speed, ISO, and SE we should be able to do this fairly easily. I frequently forget to lock the white balance so I know all to well that what you're describing is possible.
If you're in the BeastCam app, when the settings on the bottom panel appear as white they're in auto and when they switch to blue that means they're locked (same applies for the focus/exposure reticles). You should be able to set your ISO to the lowest possible number and leave the Shutter Speed on auto.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions.

HI I USE BEASTCAM APP BUT AM LAZY, WHATS THE BEST WAY JUST TO VIDEO WITHOUT GOING INTO MANUAL CONTROLS, DO I TAP THE SQARE AND CIRCAL TO LOCK THEM OR NOT ?? BEARING IN MIND AM MOVING ABOUT WHEN VIDEOING NOT STANDING STILL, THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEMOS I ALL WAYS WATCH YOUR VIDEOS MY FRIEND,

    • @photoswithphones
      @photoswithphones  Před 3 lety +3

Wayne - good question. Firstly - sometimes it makes sense to do things efficiently which is not laziness! To answer your question though, the circle is exposure and the square is focus. For the best results without manual controls tap the circle to lock the exposure but don't tap the square to lock focus. Locked is Blue, Auto is White.
When something doesn't look right simply unlock the exposure, let the app do it's auto-exposure, and relock the exposure. You say you're moving around so you may some instances when locking the focus in addition to the exposure may be beneficial. I hope this helps!

Moment Pro Camera or BeastCam Pro Camera Apps? We can talk Filmic Pro too but be warned that I hate it with a passion. Let's discuss the nuance of this decision because it's arguably the most important one of your mobile photography and filmmaking journey.
