    Thanks for this - looking into getting a new one soon, knew we had fixed, but wasn't sure what the difference was. Will definitely stay with fixed. Thanks again.

    Thank you. I find that the fixed door hinge eventually give out. I read this is quite common, as they have a lot of weight to carry over the years. I have changed to a sliding door and am prepared to fix the cupboard doors to the cupboard frame first.

    Dear Ruislip Appliances, I am currently having a problem with Domestic & General to try and obtain a 50/50 integrated FF with fixed door hinges and they didn't know such a thing existed!!! My current FF is a Baumatic and as they can't replace like for like, when I gave them alternatives that I had found online, i.e. CDA or a Rangemaster, they are unable to obtain the models as they are not on their preferred list of fridge freezers/suppliers! Any help with 'well known' manufacturers would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    I'm told by my kitchen maker that these fixed door to door hinges give trouble down the line. And we should go for ones that use sliders. Do you find this from you're experience?

    Problem with the fixed hinges is that they wear out too quickly as they are basically under-designed i.e. not up to the job. Expected better from the likes of Bosch. All 4 hinges on my Bosch have worn out within 2 years and expensive to replace. And the outer kitchen doors were not even fitted so no excessive weight...

    • @RockinRedRover
      @RockinRedRover Před 7 měsíci

      agreed - as an old school mechanical engineer, who had once thought Bosch products were well-engineered and would last, we were SO unimpressed by our first Bosch fridge freezer when bought from new. Not only did the interior light keep failing, even after the switch was replaced under warranty (it's a poor switch design - never ever saw such issues on the good old "cheapo" British LEC fridges with "ugly" yet reliable plunger switches, but a few years later the fridge door almost fell off !, luckily the freezer door below it and my quick response stopped it falling to the ground. Couldnt believe how flimsy the lower hingepoint was, effectively made from plastic and minimal steel, yet was expected to support the weight of the large door plus all the bottles n jars that we naturally placed on the door's shelves, hence it naturaly disintegrated with time, only "cured" by swopping the door opening side, and then moving house... . Ditto the fridge door on the integrated unit we inherited in our new house. Only a few years old, but the fridge door is effectively held-up by the cupboard door next to it. Pathetic ! and not fit for purpose.

    It is difficult to buy a fridge freezer now with a fixed hinge as they are nearly all sliding.

    you can actually get fridges that don't need to be put inside a stuffy old cupboard....which means friends and family won't need to ask where the fridge is.
