    When I first got into electronics about a year ago one of the first things I tried was replacing caps on a cheap Chinese amp I had. I opened it up and figured I would start with these 2 blue ones right here. I learned that they were film capacitors and they were 1 uF. So I ordered so 1 uF film caps and I got the WIMA because I thought they looked cool. Well after "soldering" those caps in I plugged it in and it sounded like SHIT. I thought I screwed something up bad. Then I noticed it was getting better, then better and better and after 5 hours or so they sounded fantastic. So when you said "I'm going to let this BURN IN" I wanted to reach through the TV and hug you. I count to countless people that say caps don't change and this and that. You have good ears my friend. One of my favorite things is to listen to film caps change. I never learn and I always adjust things before they settle down.

      I plan to let it "burn in" for at least a week playing 8-10 hours a day before I make any judgements or consider any changes. It will be interesting to see if the scope pattern looks different as well! It sounds better and better the longer it has run!

    When you make these beautifully wired amps using the 300b set up. After all your expert knowledge and testing and diagnosing the circuits. I would love to hear the amps run different types of music I understand videos can get long then also the copyright of music maybe an issue. I so much want to find a 300b SE amp yet I wish to hear them first. Love your work an explanation of the separate stages throughout your builds.

      All you are going to hear is your computer speakers. I'm sure there are plenty of You Tube videos of people playing 300B amps, but you aren't going to hear a 300B amp on your computer.

    Can I ask, with testing the voltages, is that to ensure components are all working correctly or possible errors in the wiring as a safety precaution? 🤔
    I'd imagine it's a bit of both, but have you ever seen really out of spec to expected before and what was the culprit?

    • @SkunkieDesignsElectronics
      @SkunkieDesignsElectronics  Před rokem +1

      I would say for me testing a new design, I'm looking to ensure my calculations were correct and I am seeing what I expect to see. It also rules out wiring mistakes and especially measuring the voltage across the output tube + cathode voltage lets me know how much bias the tube is running at.

    So all said and done how much does something like that cost? Look how close the voltages are on each channel, that's going to be a good sounding son of a bitch isn't it.

    • @SkunkieDesignsElectronics
      @SkunkieDesignsElectronics  Před 3 lety +1

      With all new parts and tubes, around $900. I already had the transformers and chokes from a previous project, which was about 1/2 the cost. Most 300B tube builds I have seen online spent that much or more on just the transformers!

      @@nickk6109 There isn't a shortage there WAS a demand. The idiot that's in office now put an end to the pipeline and that is what was causing high demand, but we weren't actually short on copper because it was never used. It's just people trying to time the market and that drove up the price. It's there, just more expensive it will go back down.
