  • In this final part of this series, I design the cover art for the clothbound hard covers of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (German Edition).
    Like I said in the previous video, these were inspired by the Extended DVD Box Sets.
    I drew the artwork for the back covers on Krita using my XP-Pen drawing tablet, then uploaded the designs into Cricut Design Space, where I assembled the covers.
    I found a cool Lord of the Rings inspired font on Dafont.com which I used to create the titles. Then I weeded the vinyl for literal hours. The Black Speech of Mordor nearly killed me.
    Also: Thanks, J.R.R. Tolkien, for creating an emblem of your initials, so I didn’t have to weed out your entire name!!
    Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions or suggestions. Constructive feedback is very much appreciated! :)
    Don’t forget to Like and Subscribe to not miss any of my future uploads! I have a lot more bookbinding content coming soon, but also polymer clay sculpting and other art projects. Stay tuned!

    Excellent idea and beautiful work! Love everything about it, from the lettering details to the custom artwork back covers and the map endpapers. And, if you want to minimize wrinkling when gluing the endpapers to the covers, a good idea is to start from the center of the paper towards the spine and smoothing it out from there towards the edges in a sort of radial pattern. Hope that makes sense :)

      @@AislynnArt Just something I was taught, when applying large vinyl pieces, as a signpainter. Hope it helps! Thank you for the reply and have fun! :)

    This is truly some incredible work you've done with these books, such talent. I had hoped they would've been in english so I could really admire this work but I get that you're probably from Germany and, thus, have to do them in your language. Do you charge to do stuff like this or is this a passion thing, something you just like doing?

      Thank you so much for the compliment, I'm so glad you like them! The ones I've done till now have all been gifts or for my personal collection. (These were done for my friend who is Austrian, thus the German versions :)) But this month I'm actually doing my first commission for a family friend: I'm rebinding her old Harry Potter books (Polish versions) and I'll definitely post the videos of making them sometime down the road!

      @@AislynnArt How much would you charge to do something like this? I'd love to see you do Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'

      Ooh that one sounds fun!
      I have a few projects lined up right now, but as soon as those are done I'm going to work out commission details and my Etsy shop. I'll get back to you when I got it figured out, if that's ok!

    Can I ask why you didn't glue the spine into the cover?

    • @AislynnArt
      @AislynnArt  Před 2 měsíci +6

      Thanks for the question! The reason is that we need to keep the mobility of the spine to be able to open the book and read it. So when you open the book you will see there will be a distance between the hardcover spine and the textblock spine. This is necessary to ensure that you can open each page.
      I hope this helps! I'll be sure to show it in more detail in my next bookbinding tutorial :)
