    I'm back!
For those of you who didn't see my numerous comments and community posts, I injured my spine back in December making it extremely painful to sit down or use my right arm.
I've only recently recovered enough to use a computer for short periods and I've put this video together over the course of three weeks.
To Boldly Go, For All Kerbalkind and Beyond Kerbol will all be returning in due course but I still have a ways to go before I'm fully recovered so please try to be patient.
Thank you so much for all the support I've received, stay awesome Penguinauts!

  • @ilmcamam

2:58 Minor pedantic nitpick: the NK-15s were not the first staged combustion cycle engines flown - the Proton used an oxidizer-rich hypergolic staged combustion cycle on its first stage, its first flight taking place in 1965, and the first flown kerolox SCC engine was the S1.5400 in 1961. (If you want to stretch the definition of "combustion" as some do, then the British Gamma engines also beat it, but it does require some definition-bending!) Most certainly the most spectacular use (for a lot of the wrong reasons) of the cycle by that point, though!
RE the video as a whole - amazing summary in its own right, even setting aside the circumstances of its production! And a LEGO model/explanation of Mir would be an interesting piece too - if I may suggest a future topic, the Salyut/Almaz stations would also be fitting (and being similar with incremental improvements, would suit themselves to the modularity afforded by LEGO. Though maintaining a consistent scale with other creations, such as Mir/ISS, may be harder if taking that approach.).
Hope the rest of the road to recovery goes well!

Wow this is probably one of the best and most detailed explanations on the N1 rocket i have seen!
no other source tends to mention the real reasons why the N1 failed, most just chalk it up to too many engines, but you make an excellent point in that lack of proper funding and integrated testing was really the root cause.
    really great job beardy!

Beardy! So nice to see you back again- and on a topic I am passionate about, being a former science teacher, now retired. To my understanding, another issue that plagued the N-1 besides the politics, bureaucracy and fabrication of results during the testing process was the pogo ocillation that occurred whenever it was launched. I hope you are feeling better!
