Actually, Justin Marshall, the one commentator that day (and my favourite for honest candour), pointed out that Richie was where he should not have been, messing with ball in a way he shouldn't have been and ref was studiously ignoring Richie. So, Greyling decided to administer justice.
I think that kind of foul play deserves jail time and a criminal record. Not to mention a life ban from all sport.

In those days rucking was legal. If you didn't want to get rucked you didn't lie on the ball on their side. Funnily enough the ball came out much faster in those days.

I think they rolled off 12 wins against New Zealand from 1975 onwards until New Zealand finally got a win sometime in the 80s . There was a now famous stamp in Union in 1978 when All Black Ashworth stamped on welshman JPR Williams playing for Bridgend. He got 30 stitches and lost a few pints of blood, and went back out on the field again. Crazy . There was abit of bad blood in the years that followed.
