TBH, why would anyone want singing lessons from someone who can't distinguish between a tenor and a baritone?
I have no idea how you two could grade his singing when you talked and laughed through most of it.
He was a tenor/counter tenor, four and a half actual octaves. His partner was a bass/baritone. It's worth hearing them sing together, and hearing the singular excellence of their harmonies.
He wasn’t a baritone, but his singing partner was a baritone. One of the best voices you’ll ever hear, just like him.
it's a pity that you speak at the interesting moment of the song, you should learn to listen more.
Amen !
THIS!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!! BOBBY DESERVES THE MOST RESPECT FOR THIS ACHIEVMENT, HE'S THE BEST SINGER EVER!
It's called reaction. Sometimes they dont want to stop every second to express their emotions? I saw nothing wrong. The contrary loved their reaction.
@@damienshyboymost people pause the song when they talk. If you’re talking you’re not listening.
Calm down Karen
I used to work for Bill Medly when he owned a bar/restaurant in CA called, The Hop many years ago. He and Bobby Hatfield sang a couple times live in the bar and I can say he sounded just a awesome in person as he does on a recording. A very nice guy to boot.
Wow. Great memories
Oh wow.
That is so. cool ..must've been amazing
Ty for sharing
Bobby Hatfield was one of the greatest singers ever. When he teams up with Bill Medley they belt out such great songs as You lost that Loving Feeling Soul and Inspiration Just once in my life. Bobby did Ebb Tide as a solo, incredible! They were on 🔥🔥🔥 doing The Nightime is the Right Time and Little Latin Lupe Lu. They were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and surely deserved it. Best of success on yr channel
hit pause!!! Talking over the most impressive vocals exasperates us wanting your reaction to his vocals. 🌻♥️.
Robert Lee Hatfield (August 10, 1940 - November 5, 2003) Bobby Hatfield, who had a higher counter tenor voice to Bill Medley’s, William Thomas Medley (born September 19, 1940) baritone, sang lead on this track. It was his idea to record it, since Medley and Hatfield were each allowed to choose a song to sing as a solo vocalist on their albums. As Medley tells it, Hatfield knew the song well, and was a big fan of the Roy Hamilton and Al Hibbler versions of the song.
In 2003 Hatfield died of a heart attack at age 63.
The Righteous Brothers version was a huge hit, but it was recorded with far more modest expectations. Phil Spector considered it album filler and released it as a B-side. The single had "Unchained Melody," with no producer credit on the label, as the flip to Gerry Goffin and Carole King's "Hung on You," but many DJs preferred "Unchained Melody" and played that one instead. This infuriated Spector, who subsequently left no doubt as to which side of a Philles single was the A-side.
* The famous climax of this song where Bobby Hatfield sings the high "I need your love" line wasn't how the song was written. In an interview with Bill Medley, he explained that Hatfield did two takes of the song, then left. He would often reconsider his performance and come back later to change it, and that's what he did on this track, returning to ask Medley if he could make an edit. This was no easy task, since with a maximum of four tracks to work with, you had to record over part of the original take, but Medley accommodated and Hatfield delivered that soaring vocal line. Said Medley: "I punched that in and he left. He said, 'No, I can do it better.' And I said, 'No, you can't.' [Laughs] And I think it's a big part of that song."
* This was released on Philles Records, Phil Spector's label. Spector, known for his "Wall Of Sound" technique, did not produce this - Bill Medley did. In a 2007 statement to the Forgotten Hits newsletter, Medley said: "You have to remember that I was producing our stuff before Phil Spector... I mean I produced 'Little Latin Lupe Lu,' 'My Babe' and all that stuff. Then when we went with Phil, Phil asked me if I would produce the albums because it was too time consuming for him to produce the entire albums. So he was going to do the singles and I would do the album. And so that's how that happened and that's how I produced 'Unchained Melody,' which Phil Spector apparently now takes credit for. He can have the credit. And I'm not a producer. I know how to produce. But it's obviously not a Spector production. 'Unchained Melody' was never intended to be the single... it was produced to be on the album. It was put on the B side of a Phil Spector single 'Hung On You' and the minute it was released 'Unchained Melody' just went through the roof."
Hatfield’s rendition of “Unchained Melody” although not the original, is the ‘gold standard’.
One of the great voices of all time. This song has been covered by more than 670 artists but this is the gold standard by the late great Bobby Hatfield who left us in 2003. This live performance from 1965 is legendary. His vocal range was amazing. Him and Bill Medly who make up the greatest duo of all time imo. They had so many hit songs. They’re You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling was the most played song on radio and tv in the 20th Century. Soul And Inspiration another #1 song. Rock And Roll Heaven was there tribute song to stars that have passed and many more. I like that young people today appreciate such quality music. Thank you
And he had a head cold for this performance. ❤️
You guys talked over at least 6 amazing vocal runs…sadly.
Bobby was a superb countertenor
The studio/radio/record version is nowhere near as good as this live performance which is far more dynamic.
You did. You should listen to it again. It's so worth it.
He wasnt talking over them lol
@@joningham1612 true. 😆
Exactly what I was thinking
@@joningham1612yeah they were
His mother was in the audience watching him live the very first time...no pressure!
His mom & sister... and he was getting over a headcold - you can hear that muffled 'nasal' quality.
To much talking !!!!
They enjoyed it though.
You heard the singing but you never listened. You had a lovely conversation while listening to very little of a voice that hit twenty different notes. Listen to this piece when you are not talking. You will be amazed.
The incomparable voice of Counter Tenor the late great "Bobby Hatfield" of the Righteous Brothers. Performed (Live) 58 years ago back in (1965) on the Andy Williams Television Show. No one has sung this great classic song "Unchained Melody" composed by Alex North with Lyrics by Hy Zaret than Bobby Hatfield. And no Orchestra has performed "Unchained Melody" better than the NBC Studio Orchestra of the Andy Williams Show. Their arrangement of this great classic has become the standard by which every orchestra and singer have used ever since 1965. This performance has become the quintessential version of them all. It was so good that many in the business has considered this as the greatest live performance ever! Great reaction by you both. Love your enthusiasm and love of one of the greatest singers ever in music history Bobby Hatfield. Awesome!
How did you know if it was any good? Did you actually listen to any of it?
They wanted to hear themselves.
No auto tunes. Live. One take. Just a talented young man and a microphone. The Righteous Brothers were known as "Blue-eyed Soul". Check out their "You've Lost That Loving Feeling". The most requested song on the radio of the 20th century. Also, "You'll Never Walk Alone" and Bobby singing "Ebb Tide".
In some copies of this performance, you get to hear a short introductory discussion between Bobby Hatfield (here singing), Bill Medley (the other half of The Righteous Brothers), and their host Andy Williams, if you want to hear their speaking voices.
Never a good idea to talk while Bobby is singing!±
Bobby Hatfield was a counter tenor.
He was a counter tenor, you need to hear a couple more by Bobby Hatfield; Ebb Tide, Somewhere, Summertime. He is masterful at controlling the runs, his range is phenomenal, he had a voice that is hard to beat.
There was more talking than singing.
One of the finest male voices in modern music. Thanks for your reaction.
No, no baritone but his partner Bill Medley was definitely Bass/ Baritone vocals and voice.
Bobby's range was B2 to Eb6....
no auto tune, no warm up straight off an interview, really bad flu and to top it off his mum was in the audience watching him live for the first time. The result was this timeless perfection
You talked over the great parts
Bobby was a contra tenor. Not a baritone.
My God, you guys talk too damn much. You’re missing all the good runs The man was doing. Yeah, it’s my one issue with you guys, now, I usually take it from you, but in this performance, I wanted you to hear all the nuance, and you are failing me!, Lol.
“This is my first time hearing this song live”… Which is why you should’ve shut up!
He sang this with a cold! This IS real music!
Spend less time talking over this performance and you'll get more viewers and more respect.
Exactly! It’s annoying af when reactors do that.

Agree!
I've watched like forty or fifty YT reactions to this video... videos made by people who don't necessarily know anything about music or singing... now here we have a "vocal coach" reacting... and it's the first almost non-stop talking reaction video. You guys like his singing soooo much that you just couldn't shut up. It makes total sense.
There is a longer version of this where both of the duo are speaking with the host.
Can you imagine, then, dancing to this song with your weekend love in your arms. It makes me weak.
The greatest performance in history .
You need to listen to both singing Soul and Inspiration. Both are singing. Just Awesome. Love your channel been watching for years ❤️
Hello
need to listen to You lost that loving feeling by the Righteous Brothers
If you want to hear Bobby Hatfield singing with the other righteous brother, Bill Medley, try "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling." That song is ranked as radio's most requested and played song of the 20th century. Sadly, Bobby died in 2003, but Bill is still going strong, touring and concerts. He and Jennifer Warnes hit number1 in 1987 with "Time of My Life", from the movie "Dirty Dancing."
You have to watch carefully, but just before the tape ends, Bobby flashes a little smile. He knew he had nailed it.
Check out both "brothers" singing the Rogers and Hammerstein classic (written for the musical Carousel) You'll Never Walk Alone.
Bobby has so many awesome solos. His vocal range and control was amazing. You need to react to Bobby Hatfield live performance of "Summertime" from 1965. He cuts loose with his soulful vocals and will blow your mind. Bobby is a counter tenor.
Bobby Hatfield was a counter tenor. Bill Medley was the baritone. You NEED to check out Bobby doing Summertime. Don't skip Bills intro! It's funny as hell
His beautiful sound was known in the 60's as "blue-eyed soul". His voice draws out emotions now, almost 60 years later, as much as it did then. Your reaction is priceless!!!
This couple did not know what they were talking about. Follow them at your own peril.
The beautiful, talented pitch perfect counter tenor who delivered with soul. The Righteous Brothers duo were dubbed blue eyed soul for good reason. Check out You'll never walk alone & Soul and inspiration to experience their duo perfection.
A voice like warm honey, like liquid silk. Such vocal control, range, breath control -- a master course, in one song, of how to woo another human being.
Bobby is a rare counter-tenor!!
And it live! Here you go, take this microphone and do what you do! Such a pro
You should listen to the full video. This was on the Andy Williams Show, live, and there is a pre-song interview with Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. Bobby (who sings this song solo) was having a bit of stage fright. He had a slight cold, and his mom was in the audience, never having heard him perform live before. This was national TV so it was a big deal. He was worried about that high note at the end. This was three minutes of vocal perfection! He killed it. IMHO, this is better than the studio recording because that didn't have this high ending. For me, this is the gold standard for this song. Many have attempted it, none have done it better.
You should definitely listen to You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling where they sing together. Also, check out Home Free's cover of Unchained Melody. Its as good as this version but in a different way. They took the song back to it's roots. Its from a (bad) 50's prison movie called Unchained (hence Unchained Melody). Everything Home Free does is better than the original!
Finally, a constructive criticism: I noticed that rather than pausing the video you commented during it. As a result you missed some of the best parts. That decrescendo, for example, was awesome but you missed it completely. I think pausing and rewinding 10 seconds is better than talking over the top of a song like this.
Amazing!!
You talk over some of the best parts. First time listing and you barely paid attention lol
Fact is that late Bobby Hatfield was nervous onstage because his mother was in the audience. Bobby and his singing partner, Bill Medley were guests for TV variety show called Andy Williams Show. Andy Williams was classic singer in his time with classic song called "Moon River" Both of you stating about Soul. Righteous Brothers created new genre called Blue-Eye Soul. Bill and Bobby gotten their stage name when an audience member yelled to them, "that is so righteous brother!" after their set ended.
As others stated, edit your comments while watching and listening to any artist because I know that both were impressed of Bobby's vocal skills, but you missed his range during this classic.
A great singer and enjoyed your reactions
I think we could say, without hyperbole, that this is next-level?
Greatest Live recording EVER
Shades of a countertenor
If you REALLY want to see what Bobby was capable of check out his version of "Summertime"!!
You owe it to yourselves to go back and watch it without speaking. You guys talked through some of the best stuff. I do understand it's a review, but Bobby Hatfield deserves an undisturbed listen.

She just released a original song called, The Day You….. she has worked very hard in the past few years to increase her upper range you will be unbelievably surprised please react to this. You should not have a issue with copyrights because it is her song and it is only a lyric video I promise you will be as surprised as the first time you heard her
Please do reaction to Putri Ariani AGT Qualifier 2023"I Still Haven't Found What I Am Looking For" by U2…thanks
He wears a pinky ring because he’s a boss.. 🤣
The greatest live performance of all time, I don't know if it's been mentioned but Bobby suffered from stage fright and this performance his mother was in the audience for the first time. He picked up the wrong mike which apparently was set up for interviewing, not for singing and he had a bad cold while singing this, verified by Bill Medley and if you listen to his other solo performances you can hear it in his voice
We want to hear you guys talk we really do HOWEVER when you want to talk PAUSE the video, say what you have to say and restart because it ruins the whole experience of a reaction to a video when you don’t
One of my favourite songs. You should check out Marc Martel's cover of this song. It's impressive.
Nope. No baritone. Bobby was pure tenor/countertenor. This sas with a cold and nervous because his parents were in the audience.
Would be great to see what you make of him (Bobby Hatfield) singing "Summertime", and also the duo doing "You've lost that loving feeling"
How about just LISTENING ? Or stop now and again ? Put your 'personalities' aside for a while and keep your comments to the end ! Bobby is a countertenor.
