Scott Agness recaps Fever win over Sun - Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell set records

- Scott Agness reports from inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse as the Indiana Fever defeated the Connecticut Sun for the first time since 2021, 84-80, Wednesday night in front of a sellout crowd.
They are now 4-1 since the Olympic break and 9-2 in their last 11 games. All five Fever starters scored in double figures and several players shined -- but especially Kelsey Mitchell (23 points) and Lexie Hull (17 points, 8 rebounds), who got her second start of the season.
DiJonai Carrington scored 19 and Marina Mabrey added 16 points off the bench for the 22-8 Sun in their first meeting against the Fever since June 10th.
The Fever are 15-16, just one win away from a .500 record. They're on the road for their next two games, then home for six of their final seven.

Temi is a big reason for this win also. No points but that last defensive stand when she took the ball away from "strong" Carrington was a highlight. Defense wins Championships
She is/was great. Couldn't highlight everyone here or it would've taken a half hour. She should be in the starting lineup.

I figure I'll get crushed for this comment, but I think Coach Sides is doing a great job,
with a very young team developing the chemistry and instilling her O. She has had a learning curve just like the players and appears to be growing and by extension her team is growing.
I’ll give Sides & staff 20% of the credit for listening to feedback, keeping the team together mentality & adapting (gradually) for the better.
The 80% goes to the players for sticking with it, grinding through all the adversity & managing to put it together!
Anyone who has played in organized basketball knows she’s done a great job. Majority of criticism comes from CC idolators and cultists.
The building this team from basically scratch to this is COTY material.
@@DustyTail Sides brought Wheeler & Wallace from Atlanta to the Fever as her big time players. And originally wanted to fit CC into last year’s system that did not produce results, but is now finding results in letting CC (Iowa’s system) run the offence.
The fever has gone e through 3 seasons in 1 and after the Olympic break is yet a new wave of greatness! Just stunning basketball playing by these young guys ladies! The coach getting on board with the talent and the fast run way they want to play, and also not treating them like stupid step children with insults crushing them anymore is nice change too!
You can tell Mitchell and AB are happy as look at their performances!!! Just Mindblowing 🤯 exciting!

This is the definition of a Cinderella team. And I don't just mean Clark as the whole team has turned from mopping floors to banging down doors. What I find so enduring is the small stuff, remember the post-game interviews at the beginning of the season? Clark on one side of the table, while Boston and Mitchell sat away on the other side. Ball hog Mitchell at the start and now not the case. Boston out of shape at the start now not so much. Watching the team go from joke to smoke has just electrified the fans.

Great coaching from Christie Sides, she called timeouts to stop runs, and she changed lineups when one wasn’t working. Great job last night Coach!!!
Why does every reporter have to point out all of CC22's flaws every time they talk about her. Christy Sides spends every press break pointing out CC22 bad habits acting like she is now responsible for the way she plays. I think the reason CC22 has trouble with shot selection is that she tries to be a good player and do what her coach tells her even if she knows better. For Sides needs to take the leash off CC22 and let her know she has a green light any time. She needs to stop hesitating but won't without Sides personally telling her.

I loved the full postgame interview you shared. One part of it that was cut out from the portions that went viral, is when the Lexi said “thank you” to the interviewer before continuing to comment (leading into the funny balls comment). CC turned to her and said “you’re so respectful”. Even that banter is great between the teammates. This group’s chemistry is real and it shows.
Just grind them out, gettin better, GO FEVER!!

CC22 has skill, basketball sense talent all of it. Ridiculous amount of will to win…at everything. And is now comfortable with her team, and them with her. She’s crazy. Crazy incredible, crazy real. And the team has bought in…so has the coach. In these crazy times….I find the whole thing awesome.

I watched post-game, and you can already see the black reporters are already trying to put together a narrative where the black veteran has led her team to the playoffs. Anything to make sure CC22 does not get credit. CC22 prides herself on doing her job well and I think if you watch her body language after Kelsey run one of her crazy circle dribble no look pass it looks sad. We all know the team stays cohesive when CC22 holds the rains. CC22 has given her whole self to bringing this team together and if you start letting other people take credit for what she does. You know she passes up her own stats to make everyone else shine but when she looks out and sees everyone taking credit for what she gives up you might break her. You know if she wanted, she could go off and score 30 every game if she was not a team player but it has to be reciprocal.

You guys are trying to make Kelsey be the leader of the team and I think you should be careful she is drunk from the attention and her crazy selfish circle unfocused dribbling will lead to turn overs when she tries to act like she is as good as CC22. Kelsey is the best when she does not act like a point guard and stays in her lane as a shooting guard. I will bet Sides is afraid to tell Kelsey to not do anything. If you look at CC22 when Kelsey does one of her take it full court like a point guard. Kelsey tries to act like she has these no look passes that are unguided flips that are not her job. When this team roll plays through CC22 they are unstoppable. When you get to the playoffs the things you are getting away with will not work. Tell your team that sides should be a good coach and tell players to roll play and win.

CC heerself said Kelsey has mentored her and given guidance to her as the season has gone along.
CC is the better overall player, but to not give credit to the player that leads in 4th qtr clutch points is ridiculous.
There is such wisdom in trying to keep Kelsey. You do what it takes. And Kelsey has revealed in at least one interview an outsider's experience. We want her to really feel herself as being an insider, and her own comments and actions indicate she is getting there.
