ഉത്തര മലബാറിൽ കെട്ടിയാടപ്പെടാറുള്ള തെയ്യങ്ങളിൽ വാണിയ സമുദായക്കാരുടെ കുല-പര ദേവതയാണ്‌ മുച്ചിലോട്ടു ഭഗവതി.സമുദായ ഭേധമന്യേ ഉത്തര കേരളത്തിൽ പരക്കെ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന മുച്ചിലോട്ട്‌ ഭഗവതിയെ അതേ രൂപത്തിൽ കണിയാൽ ഭാഗവതി[1]. എന്നും ചെറിയ രൂപ വ്യത്യാസത്തിൽ ഈഴാല ഭഗവതി,മഞ്ഞളാമ്മ എന്നീ പേരുകളിലും ആരാധിച്ച്‌ വരുന്നു.[2].
മുച്ചിലോട്ടു ഭഗവതി
ഏറെ ലാവണ്യമുള്ള തെയ്യമാണ് മുച്ചിലോട്ടു ഭഗവതി. ഭഗവതിയുടെ മുഖമെഴുത്തിന് കുറ്റിശംഖും പ്രാക്കും എന്നാണ് പറയുന്നത്.സ്വാത്വിക ആയതിനാൽ ചടുലമായ ചലനവും വാക്കും ഈ തെയ്യത്തിനില്ല. സർവാലങ്കാര ഭൂഷിതയായി, സുന്ദരിയായി നവവധു പോലെയാണ് ഈ തെയ്യം. നിത്യ കന്യകയായ ദേവിയുടെ താലികെട്ടാണ് പെരുങ്കളിയാട്ടം.12 വർഷം കൂടുമ്പോഴാണ് പെരുംകളിയാട്ടം നടത്തുന്നത്.പരാശക്തിയുടെ അവതാരമായ ബ്രാഹ്മണ കന്യകയായി ഭൂമിയിൽ ജനിച്ച ദേവി ചെറു പ്രായത്തിൽ തന്നെ അറിവുകൊണ്ട് വിജയം നേടുകയും എന്നാൽ അതിൽ അസൂയയും കലിയും പൂണ്ട പുരുഷ മേധാവിത്വം അപവാദ പ്രചരണം നടത്തി ഭ്രഷ്ട് കൽപ്പിച്ചപ്പോൾ അപമാനഭാരത്താൽ അഗ്നിയിൽ സീതാ ദേവിയെ പോലെ ജീവൻ ഹോമിച്ച വിദ്യാസമ്പന്നയായ ബ്രാഹ്മണ കന്യകയാണ് മുച്ചിലോട്ടു ഭഗവതി[3].മുച്ചിലോട്ടു ഭഗവതിയെ മുച്ചിലോട്ട്‌ തായ്‌ എന്നും ,മുച്ചിലോട്ടച്ചിയെന്നും, മുച്ചിലോട്ടമ്മയെന്നും, മുച്ചിലോട്ട് പോതിയെന്നും വിളിക്കാറുണ്ട്.
മറ്റു പരദേവതമാർക്കു ഉത്സവാഘോഷങ്ങളായി കോലം കെട്ടി കളിയാട്ടങ്ങൾ നടത്തി വരുന്നത് പോലെ തനിക്കും വേണമെന്ന് മുച്ചിലോട്ട് ഭഗവതിയും തീരുമാനിച്ചു. മുച്ചിലോട്ട്‌ പടനായർ ക്കും കോലത്തുനാട്‌ ഭരിച്ച കോലത്തിരി തമ്പുരാനും തന്റെ ആഗ്രഹം സ്വപ്ന രൂപത്തിൽ ഉണർത്തിച്ച പ്രകാരമാണ് മാന്ത്രിക പണ്ഡിതന്മാരായ ബ്രാഹ്മണർ ചിട്ടപ്പെടുത്തിയ ( പടിത്തരവും പട്ടോലചാർത്തും )അനുസരിച്ചു കരിവെള്ളൂർ മുച്ചിലോട്ടു കാവിൽ മുച്ചിലോട്ടു ഭഗവതിയുടെ കോലം കെട്ടിയാടുന്നത് അക്കാലത്തെ മാന്ത്രികനും മായാജാലക്കാരനുമായിരുന്ന മണക്കാടൻ ഗുരുക്കളാണ് മുച്ചിലോട്ടു ഭഗവതിയുടെ കോലം രൂപകല്പന ചെയ്‌തു കെട്ടിയാടിയതു. പെരുവണ്ണാൻ സമുദായത്തിൽ പെട്ട അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പിന്മുറക്കാർ തന്നെ ആണ് ഇന്നും അതു ചൈയ്യുന്നതു രണ്ട് കോലങ്ങൾ ഒരേ സമയം കെട്ടിയാടുന്ന പയ്യന്നൂരിലെ പൂന്തുരുത്തി മുച്ചിലോട്ടു കാവിൽ ഒരു കോലം കെട്ടാനുള്ള അധികാരവും അവകാശവും അഞ്ഞൂറ്റാനാണ് രണ്ടുപേരും തിരുമുടി വെക്കട്ടെ രണ്ടുപേരെയും എനിക്കു വേണം എന്ന തമ്പുരാട്ടിയുടെ ഹിതം പ്രാശ്നികമായി ചിന്തിപ്പിച്ചപ്പോഴുണ്ടായ തീരുമാനപ്രകാരമാണ് അതു ചെയ്യുന്നത് എന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.
