The Unreal Engine is better and less costly than Nazi Unity any Day and every Day of the week.
This is heartbreaking honestly. Rust is my all-time favorite game. While I only have about 1800 hours over the last 5 years, there's no other game that comes close to it in my eyes.
10k+ hours. since 2014 Jan. It's literally my passion, my job and my entertainment
Wayne Gretzky says you're a pro now @ 10k hours. @@Reksmore
@@Reksmore i have 800 hours over about a year and i absolutely love it in my freetime. i cant stand this unity crap! WE WILL WIN

@@Reksmoreit will die. Or move to unreal and finally get better performance or it goes to cryo engine like hunt showdown.
You should've added a list of all the games that are using unity to help show the magnitude of this.
That's a good point, I was just primarily focused on the impact to rust but it's 100% a massive issue
Agree would be great to do!!
Hearthstone 😂
Cuphead
Hollow Knight
Hearthstone
Cities Skylines
Escape from Tarkov
7 Ways to Die
RimWorld

Rust (Obviously)
to list a few..
It's so sad to see greed fuck things this bad. The future impact on new games too...
I think their best plan going forward would be to start pulling and breaking down assets and mechanics to port into a new game engine. *Cough* UE5 *cough*...
idk what else they can do... even that is soooo much work.
@@Reksmore just drop Unity cold, be open and honest with the community, we will totally understand. If a few other devs do the same then I'll make popcorn and we can all watch Unity crash and burn.
@@Reksmore the UE 5 developers have made the hassle of porting less painful than other engines.
I think it could possibly be the best decision they could make, having access to technology that would really help their games limitations on unity.
Unity sort of played themselves here.
@@hypnotoad101the pot of greed tempts all.
I really want to understand Garry's reason for not using it in the first place.
As a game developer myself I've had this happen to me with other APIs and engines. It is heartbreaking to take a service at face value and then be let down 2 years down the line to learn they are either changing their payment plan (cough cough unity) or shutting down services without releasing the service open source. Gone are the days when we roll our own engines, and that is a GOOD thing.
What we SHOULD be rooting for is open source
Only thing you’ve developed is hiv from your bf
Godot is free and open source. Check it out if you haven't before, I'm making an ARPG on it rn. It has good 2d and 3d capabilities.
This should be illegal on soooooo many levels. A company should not be able to change a product you already own and then charge you again for it. Devs paid for a specific product delivered in a specific manner for a predetermined and agreed upon price. The company unilaterally saying "give us more" should be considered a form of extortion.
I don't see how it isn't.
It's literally a bait a switch
It is bait and switch. They could bring them to court.
Unfortunately, because it has been sold to them as a license, it is legal. That being said, the ethics are extremely questionable and this shouldn’t be legal when the product you have been selling someone for the past 10 years is the root of their business.
@@adox8574maybe if all the game game developers banded together they could take them to court? If they win they could make history and prevent it from happening in the future
@@georginacook1850 Courts don't legislate or make laws. They make rulings based on current laws.
The game is too good to be true… now they may have to turn to big corporation marketing based greed machines who will ruin the game as soon as they get their hands on it : (
I sure hope that Facepunch isn’t forced to selling out.. or else it’ll be extremely sad to see the best game ever made fall.
I'm fine with Unity screwing themselves with this, but only for new games, not ones already existing.
As the digital age develops they will surely incorporate instances such as this into the definition of "Bait & Switch..." the engine has very high-dollar clients who can only guarantee the high-dollar status because of the contracts they've agreed to
Havent seen the video but its been a while since ive seen one of ur vids. Love them and still love you. Keep it up
I don’t even want rust 2. I feel like the game will be “modernized” in movement, realism and changing the core aspects of what made rust so appealing to us. So simplistic but so In depth in ways to play. I wish they could find a way to “move” the game from one engine to another without having to create a whole new game that I don’t see ever topping the excitement and nostalgia the original 10 year old game brings us.
When I hit launch and try to log into a server it takes 30mins-1hour to load the world
I read the article about it. Its only like 10 cents per install and the rust president and devs said it aint gonna affect them much
They're not going to let Rust die. They're already working on solutions.
But that isn’t a good title for a sponsored video
A lawsuit is the only thing that may stop the corporate scum.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Every developer to use the unity engine should band together and start a class action lawsuit.
I think unity is going to walk this back and rethink it, not that that will fix the giant trust problem they just created, but I don't think the end result will be that bad.
Thats the best outcome imo
best outcome 100% is Facepunch contracts with a different engine or makes their own.@@Reksmore
No they don't. Look at who is on charge of them and his history. And even if they do, developers are not trusting on them anymore. If I were a dev, I will never use this engine just in case
@@mari0auseva I could see them surviving if the ceo were to resign or something along those lines. It might take something like that at this point.

Wish they could swap over to Unreal Engnie, better business model and better graphics especially with the new engine. I'm sure there is some other games coming up in future in same genre as Rust, with a different engine of course. But to be honest, to every problem - there is a solution.
Its 100% the direction they're looking to go, but it sounds like its going to be marketed as a new game, so I'm hoping they refocus what they want rust to be and come out with something amazing. Because right now it a little all over the place. We also need a larger collection of random spawning monuments. Like a legit huge collection of procedurally generated monuments. The cookie cutter dome here, gas station here... its getting really stale.
Ue5 whould be much better , better optimization , high end gpu finally could use their potential to the max
This sucks but so many things need improving with Rust anyhoo change is (probably) a very good and overdue thing. Unfortunately it means it will take that much longer for real and necessary changes to come to Rust since they'll have to start over with a new engine.
I just bought rust this year...
So now a game I bought is only gonna exist for about a year after buying it.😢
My main account with $600 worth of skins was hacked and banned from rust and I can’t sell them now, can I sell them after this goes down?
Imagine rust in the latest unreal engine.😏
then unreal does the same thing
@@fv4202x They all will, it is inevitable. The GFX and VFX will be insane. Now imagine rust in the latest unreal engine.
Why use unreal when you can use Unity?
@@JuggernautICBM lol, cuz "new pricing"
It's extortion if you really get down to it, What's to stop unity from abusing this system themselves to selectively price gouge across many games effectively allowing them to print their own quarterly income to whatever they want it to be. (logical extreme to the system and their "just trust me" proprietary software gambit)
Retroactively telling people they owe you money on a product they purchased from you is certainly the stuff class action suits are made for.
(they have already paid them for using their services the agreed upon contract amount based on their earning)
but what I'm implying is if they base it off installs
technically we're assuming no malicious behavior from the company. If they can't track certain aspects correctly
there's nothing stopping someone from forming a VM ware setup and -reinstalling the game and repeatedly raising the amount owed by unities dubious metrics.
the man said "Rust 2", TAKE MY MONEY.
it time for them to make there own engine and give the big middle finger to unity

What plugin in am i watching
i propose a solution, unity team vs rust team pvp match inside rust, winner takes all, if the rust team wins they now legally own unity and bend it to their will, vice versa
Even if unity doesnt go through with it, rust developers are most definitely leaving unity once they get a new engine themselves.
lets grow that seed: Source 2
all these unity game devs should unite and create their own open source engine
the end of an era, but the start of a new on that could potentially be better. i hope all goes well though
lets hope rust 2 has the old recoil system and sounds
So would this have an impact on console players? I see Unity when I start up on PS5 but I’m not sure that it runs in the background
I’ve spent tons of money on that game, I bought their newest skins you can’t put on the market and deleted the game, I love the game…
I think if they brought back old recoil everyone would be on the same level. I tried playing old recoil and couldn't even spray 200+ m anymore.
They can build Rust 2 with a new engine next time. Facepunch already announced they might actually go this route. Rust won't die.
Feels like fearmongering atm. Why would facepunch studios be in "panic". This isnt going to happen.
Make Rust 2 on a different engine. Will buy immediately.
I’ve also had to reinstall the game because EAC kept complaining. If this happens to too many people they’ll go bankrupt.
If it wasn't for that combat update, I probably would be upset and stressed out right now.
For those of you who haven't been follow Unity and the most recent developments, they have rolled back their initial plan to a kinder gentler version. Though the damage is perhaps done (they have tipped their hand once again) , Unity's new plan isn't as bad as what they initially released a few weeks back. Only question now is, will that be enough to regain developers faith in the engine, or is the downward dive unrecoverable? All in all, it' seems like a classic case of "How to kill a Game engine in one easy step." ... and this wouldn't be the first time this CEO has killed a company (can you say EA?)
Rust sells on the order of about $500k in new skins every week, and I'm pretty sure just had a $10M payday with these new building skins they're dropping. They've only got 50 employees for the entire company, with total revenue of about $80M, and the player base is very active I don't think Rust is about to fold.
Unity on the other hand.... To me, the big thing is that Unity changed the terms. The impact of the change doesn't really matter. What matters is they've forced devs to re-think their own business model to make sure they can support Unity's change.
The Rust devs have openly stated that Rust 2 will not be done in Unity. I expect an exodus to occur.
Double eleven has been doing a lot of work in the gaming industry right now I doubt they are going to forget about the farm!
I’m really scared as I’m not sure if rust 2 will flop or not and i literally just started getting addicted, it would be a shame if it flops.
Wait till all the people that want revange on blizzard realiee that hearthstone is a unity game and they go nuts on them with installing over and over again
noway are we actually gonna lose rust bro i can't stay alive without rust i have been playing it since 2017 like please we all have to do something about it , like this can't be real bro
We need to make unity regret their choice
@@Reksmore im down to anything that will help facepunch to keep up with rust, why don't all the big youtubers talk to each others and plan something and we all can help to f*** unity and let it be exactly how it was before
Get a life lol
damn iv seen this happen to worlds adrift when they built it off proprietary tech, and it was also unity which banned that service on top of the source code of the proprietary tech being copyrighted which made the game truly dead, its a shame that games are at the mercy of the engines they were built on when the engines should be at the mercy of the devs who use them.
I see a lot of people in the comments asking why they don't "just switch engines" to unreal or something. The answer is simple, it takes time. They could potentially have to pause updates for multiple years while they work on transitioning from one engine to another. It's why Terraria announced they would be making Terraria 2. It was easier to just start making a new game from scratch than it was to switch game engines.
Did the rust develops only pay 2000$ a month to unity?
That doesn’t seem fair to me if so
Bro stop. You know how many friends I got to download Rust just because I was playing it and wanted them to play with me.. that’s crazyyyyyyyy
Should a paint supplier charge an artist for each look people give of a painting they made, even after paying for the paint ?
Oh mama, if they follow CS2's steps, my skins are gonna value even more 😍
2021 was Rust peak. But there are still more people playing rust today then in 2022. Also the game has tripled in popularity compared to when the game was still being worked on super hard in 2014. Were today games highest player counts are typically launch week and thats it. Rust is complete opposite, We wont see this game die in next 5 years or so probably longer unless some major changes take effect. If im not mistaken no wipe days for servers are still something that will come, but that was planned for when the game was way more finshed. So im hoping they have a ton of stuff still planned. Im very happy with what they have done with last few meaningful updates. Even the camper no one asked for. It was pretty cool.
Also why does this game not have as much as idk csgo players then? Well thats like comparing eft to call of duty. Eft is another really old game that had its player count peak during covid. But sadly theres spiked way more down becuse cheater scene messed with people hard. Eft felt less like a acarde shooter espically after inertia update. Csgo no prep time unless you warm up. Cod just sit on couch or desk and run it. Rust can be like that maybe not sit on couch. But it can also be pain (also cheaters), which normal casual cant stand everyday. Sad eft had so many dumb decisions when dealing with all the cheaters they accumalted. All my brothers and myself played cod and csgo growng up. Im the only one who has every played rust. Its not for everyone. But its the game that these people needed, that are willing. I do wish some servers espically vanilla facepucnch took degenerate behave a bit more serious. Becuase the only thing im actually sick of is kids telling me to kms after pvp them once or twice. Or grown adults/kids being racist. Basically if you want the xbox live experience still in 2023. Just play rust.
WHAT!!@!!@#
Thanks for the info!
No Taxation without representation this is exactly that Unity has gone mad with power!
There should never be a cost for updates because its a full priced game that we paid for. If it was free then yes but no we paid money.
I have altered the deal, pray I do not alter it further
What if all the game devs that use unity make an open source game engine, like Blender but for games, call it 'Unified' lol.

Is it time for rust 2?!??! Let’s get it. They should completely come out with a new game new engine.
dont expect it soon
I'm sorry Reks but that was the WORST ad seques I've ever heard 😂
i mean rust could be like: "okay i guess we put a fee on it too/ so for every install the consumer has to pay" its crazy but that way any hacker has to pay to and its might be annyoing but 15p for a quick reinstall is not to bad every once in a while
The problem is scripts running on virtual machines could easily turn that into thousands of installs per hour
Go figure that a company becomes more greedy with time
Facepunch already made his money... We will see soon what he decides, he won't lose anything.
Pro tip: Playback at 1.25 speed
this is the Stamp Act all over again.
the 1700's The act required the colonists to pay a tax, represented by a stamp, on various forms of papers, documents, and playing cards. It was a direct tax imposed by the British government without the approval of the colonial legislatures and was payable in hard-to-obtain British sterling, rather than colonial currency.
Would we get to keep our skins that’s all I care about 😢
It's what happen when the guy from EA who wanted player to pay to reload, starts working at unity
They rescinded the change. If the devs are smart they would already start development in unreal 6
Agreed. Can't unring the bell
Probably won't impact too much. The already pay monthly for devs. Its not like this is the only monthly recurring expense
That’s depressing 🤦🏽♂️ everybody go on strike against unity
I must be missing something , game published that run on software that isnt owned by the game designers of course should be paying software engineering for the use of that software ,plus a fee that kicks in after 200k in 12months should be paying in my eyes , if they dont like it make your on engine and stop using the nabours electricity
It isn't possible to monitor for abuse of this if the user also reinstalled Windows or Linux and then installed the game because the PC will get a new random name every time you do this to prove my point even if you have signed into your Gmail on the PC before if you use 2factor you must reauthorize the same device because it will think it is a totally new device
Tbh facepunch has been killing rust more and more the past year with every update..

Why and how are some people so good at destroying trust.
Didnt Unity walk this back?
Unity walked back their claims, not like anyone is going to trust them anymore now though.
Some of us have 10k hours …. Maybe they should switch to Unreal engine. Imagine how amazing this would be .. ya it would be different but we will get used to it
They should rewrite rust in the rust programming language using the bevy game engine as the foundation. It only makes sense to make rust in rust
If it does let's hope the devs swap engines

Why do I think Unity is going to create a ton of bots and constantly download any game that is on their pay role?
I would hate this I got like 6 k hour been playing for like 4 years fr and got the game when it came out hate to see this is happening hope if they will change there mind and if anything up there mounthly price
Unity probably upset games are making far more money than the programs used to create them do.
if i lose a 10k+ rust inv due to this im over this game shits gone downhill fast
i agree if i lose 2.5k usd im pissed
It's not all doom and gloom. This unity change has made given facepunch a reason to make rust 2 and as far as they have said it won't be on unity. Probably on unreal which will make it run quite well in any case and now we can expect to see a new game entirely. That being said unity has walked back their business model pricing but they unfortunately can't walk back the trust that they lost from developers new and old. I think rust is actually about to get even better than before with the release of rust 2 it's just a matter of time.
Rip my 10 000 hours of fun since 2014
I could rage install my game now... id have to do it a bunch but i think that over time i could cost a company more money than they got from my game, just from spite for actions from a player in there game. As a human i might figure out how to make a computer program that just installs the game enough cancels it then restarts the download to automate it, then i could scale it up. This is worse than the steam thing that everyone technically got/is getting payed for. I smell class action.
