President Bill Clinton address the nation after his grand jury testimony and apologizes for lying ab

  • (17 Aug 1998) President Bill Clinton acknowledged in a prime-time address that he had an inappropriate relationship with a young White House intern. But he refused to give detailed answers to some questions about the explicit nature of his contacts with Monica Lewinsky. In his speech Clinton said he never asked anyone to lie and said it was time to ease up on the investigation. The president said part of the reason he did not come forward earlier was to save himself and his family from embarrassment and because of his mistrust of Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr's investigation.

Lollolololl here was busted 4 other times before her became president including being caught in LA ROJA ZONE the red zone which is a whorehouse in northern Mexico. But it never got out. One of his serviceman were about it in a book and are there secret service men did also tell about his affairs in their books. He had allegedly, according to one secret service agent, had a very young black Hispanic girl come to a hotel room in Spain. secret servicemen said that she could have been over 18 but didn't look a day over fourteen or fifteen. He took 27 FBI confirmed flights on Jeffrey Epstein's private jet and and 4 of those flights went to Jeffrey Epstein's island. Bill Clinton when he was 27 years old could pass a lie-detector tests with flying colors. He was questioned by the FBI in 1973 about his involvement with a child pedophilia when he was 27. After he ran for governor when he was 32 a person that saw him take the lie detector test heard him admit to some things that he lied about on the test but he still passed the test. He was hurt on open Mic talking to in a former CIA special operativeabout being trained to lie without anyone being able to tell so that he could manipulate the system after becoming president. And approve that a body language expert watched the video of him being questioned before Congressand the video of him telling the American people that he did not have sexual relations with that woman and he said that neither time did he show any signs of deceit. This guy said the first thing a person does when they lie is their pupils dilate

Not really, most people remneber the 90s for how strong they were, especially in the economic category. The Lewinsky affair will always be remembered as a partisan fishing expedition that cost 50 million dollars and accomplished absolutely nothing besides increasing his overall popularity. He generally ranks highly in most public polls about “greatest presidents” because people don’t give a shit about your personal life, it’s the direction you take the country that matters the most, and the 90s were an absolutely amazing time, possibly the best decade.

Bill Dejean I can certainly agree with you to a certain degree. However I personally believe public servants, high ranking government officials like the President, elected members of Congress, both local, state and federal. Should not expect to, have or ask for any privacy whatsoever. If they don’t like that or don’t agree with that, then the public service shouldn’t be for them. They can depart, go to the public sector and they can have a private life there. I think Bill Clinton was a great President!! however I don’t agree with his affair scandal and don’t think it was appropriate. Neither do I believe it was appropriate, neither morally or even professionally that he had an affair with a porn actor and tried to cover it up. Now that he’s President, I don’t believe he should be subjected to personal privacy. If he doesn’t agree with it, then the office of President isn’t for him. If we’re gonna elect people, then we should know exactly who they are, their life, their story, their financial work, family, personal and the complete vetting process. If these individuals are gonna represent us, then they should not hide anything from the people who are gonna vote for them.

We know there was no “collusion” with Russians. Yet a large percentage of Democrats still think Russian interference altered the vote or even changed vote tallies, a proven lie.
It was used to try and delegitimize President Trump and triggered massive resistance among bureaucrats. A man who cheated on his wife , wow .. wow …. do you guys know many men cheat on their wife right now and don’t care if we get bombed the next day , don’t care if we gotta pay for a doctors visit for a life threatening infection that’s contagious, and also everytime he speaks he holds his wife in a high place . It’s crazy but until i see real concrete evidence that he’s a BAD MAN like they want him to seem so bad , i won’t believe any of it . Also Monica called him a lot … :/ 22 you’re at an age to understand , you’re not 17 lol . Monica lost her virginity at 14 and also may Linda Tripp rest in peace because she wasn’t a hero….. i still don’t understand her purpose . seemed like she was just mad at the world for not working at the white house 🥴 but yea let me shut up cus i was born on 1997 !!! 😂

I think there is something special about him, he is different from other presidents- at least the way he talks. And if he had any relationship with someone- why does this affect the country? The politics of other countries? How does his personal actions affect America as a nation? I don't get it

This was tough to witness as a kid in college. Bill, you messed up, and the investigation most certainly was politically motivated. However, you helped string this along with your insistence that you didn't do something that you knew you had. If you had taken the podium after Super Bowl Sunday (first win in Broncos history...yeah!!) and just told the public, "Yes, everyone, you got me. I had an inappropriate relationship with an intern, took advantage of a young, college-age woman, and I deeply regret it. I take full responsibility for my actions, and I apologize to the public, to Hillary, and to Chelsea for letting you all down. No further comment." What would have happened then? It would have been cannon fodder on Rush Limbaugh for a few weeks and then it would have blown over.
Republicans, are you really proud of this moment? Are you really, seriously happy that this continued to drag out for nearly another 18 months? Over THIS?!? You took a sitting President to trial in the Senate and nearly removed him from office, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OUR NATION'S HISTORY, over him lying about him cheating on his wife? Try to spin it all you want, but that's what happened. Was this supposed to be some big revenge because Congress got Nixon to resign 20 years earlier? Unlike Clinton, Nixon committed some actual, substantial criminal acts and most certainly would have been removed from office had the impeachment proceedings moved forward. Clinton lied about his sex life.

To be fair, if a man in the highest office in the land presents himself as a committed family man and a loyal servant to the people, it does strike a fatal blow to his credibility and authority to lecture anyone else about moral issues if he is willing to not only cheat on his wife, but lie about it publicly to an entire nation. The president is, by original design, supposed to be the best citizen, character wise, of all Americans, who above all else knows the difference between right and wrong. Nixon set a very shady precedent, but that should have gone down as a blip in American presidential history, not the start of a trend...

Perjury is a substantial crime, and remember he was already under investigation for other substantial crimes, including sexual assault against Paula Jones. Before you start wagging your finger at Republicans, just remember that the Democrats' coddling of men like Bill Clinton helped perpetuate a culture of fear whereby women didn't feel they could accuse their attackers without being attacked again by people like you. Democrats helped foster that.

The standard that is often invoked by politicians in favor of impeachment-currently being employed by congressional Democrats-is whether an ordinary citizen could get away with committing the same crime. Needless to say, the average American wouldn’t be able to commit perjury without facing legal consequences. In truth, the groundwork for President Bill Clinton’s impeachment was largely laid out by Bill Clinton himself. In his first year in office, the president renewed the Independent Counsel mandate without making feasible revisions, which might have included some sort of sunset clause on a potential investigation. The special prosecutor was therefore allowed essentially unlimited time to probe the incumbent chief executive’s conduct. Another glitch in this unreformed mandate was that when presented with new evidence, the OIC would have no choice but to continue, and expand, their investigation. By late 1997, Kenneth Starr was wrapping up his inquiry into the Whitewater scandal (which yielded, among other things, the indictments of Arkansas Governor Jim Guy Tucker and his business associate William Marks for making false statements to prosecutors) until Linda Tripp turned over recordings of Monica Lewinsky admitting to an affair with Clinton. Starr had no choice but to press ahead and formally request that Attorney General Janet Reno permit him to examine the new developments, to which she complied.
One measure that Clinton DID take early in his administration was the signing of the Violence Against Women Act of 1994. This bill outlined the criteria for what defines sexual harassment, which the accusations against President Clinton adequately met. Furthermore, the bill allows for prosecutors in a sexual harassment case to question the defense about their intimate lives, in order to establish a pattern of misconduct. Bill Clinton was done in by a law that HE signed. It’s not really an act of spin to note that Clinton was clearly okay with other witnesses being asked similar invasive questions. But only when used on him did these tactics, that he endorsed, suddenly become evidence of a right-wing campaign fueled by sexual McCarthyism.
Congressional Republican leaders at the time of Clinton’s impeachment have expressed regret at their handling of the episode. The proceedings themselves, however, did somewhat act as a form of congressional censure (which many Democrats were advocating for anyway). But as mentioned above, it was Clinton who largely built the infrastructure of his trials. The final way in which he managed to do this was by engaging in an affair with an intern in the first place. I have trouble believing that with all the same facts in this serious breech of workplace ethics, along with the subsequent attempts to cover up the lies, a Democratic House majority would not have taken similar action during a Republican presidency. The amalgamation of his wife’s loss in the 2016 presidential election and the advent of the #MeToo movement has allowed for Clinton’s party to shun him. I think people will begin to wonder whether the former president’s conduct deserved the defense that was mounted for him. It seems like that process is in motion.
