- I have had the SD40 for over a year now. The SK40 has a somewhat updated design, but the major differences are an upgraded burr as well as a steeples adjustment design. Don't fret, if you order the SD40V2, it will have the same burrs!

From what I am seeing, this grinder is ... unbelievable for the price. I have been hesitating to get a Niche Zero - just too expensive for someone new to Espresso, but the built-in grinder in my Breville has proven to not allow me to dial-in my beans the way I wanted to. For $200 this thing seems almost too good to be true. But I put in an order and looking forward to seeing it soon, Lord willing!
Niche is over priced for what you receive. It’s an ok grinder for maybe $350 max. This SK40 has smaller burrs but even niche lovers that have picked up admit they like it
Just got mine today. Coming from a pretty impressive $99 Ariete Grinder Pro, this thing slaps! So quiet and No retention! No more beating on my grinder to get the retention out.
I am somewhat worried about drip brews as this grinds very fine. At the coarsest setting I’m still at 4 min brew time on my v60
You can keep spinning the adjustment knob another 360 turn
I think they could have had like a latch/flip swivel thing for the worm gear, where if you need to do big adjustment you can just lift/unlatch the worm gear and turn the dial directly.
Actually, now that i think about it, I'm pretty sure someone made that for the SD40 model, from a 3d print.
I'm going CRAZY waiting for my SK40 to come in.... I'm ready to try it out and dump my Smart Grinder Pro... I know eventually I'll upgrade to something in the $500 -$700 range, but it will be over a year before that happens.... this espresso hobby has been a blast. I've gone from a Breville Duo to a Breville Dual Boiler... now I'm looking at the Lelit Bianca V3 for Christmas... after that, I'll probably change grinders as well.... but until then, I'll hopefully be having a GREAT experience with the SK40!!
I wasn't looking to buy another grinder but something just happened an hour or two ago which makes me want this. Should have an answer by morning.
Great video fun and informative, I just preordered thanks
Unbelievable opportunity @ 2 bones .. got two ordered, gifting son.
What a Great video! I ended up pre-ordering it! Going to be an improvement to the blade grinder that I'm using now. hahahaha
I can feel you about the comment for 10-12 years ago
The best cheap grinder you could buy was the ascaso i2 which i had
Muddy mouthfeel and huge retention, i was shaking it like shaker to drop the last grinds 😂, but i had tasty shots and worked well at single dose too, i mean you didn't need to have the hopper full
I like the monolith design of sk40 a lot, and the below seems that it will last, it is not 3d printed
I was cleaning out my Breville Smart Grinder (non-pro) the other day, after receiving some bad beans, and was kind of (very) bothered by how worn out it's become. The original Smart Grinder is discontinued, and parts like burrs are no longer available. So, after many hours of internet research, I decided to give this a try. I placed my order earlier today. I like the idea of the worm gear on this version. We'll see if I regret that when I go to change from espresso to drip and back again. It looks like nice construction for the price, and not overly complicated to take apart, should the need arise. I can't wait to try it out.
I’ve had Baratzas which are kind of a nice breville. I think the Breville to be very cheaply made unfortunately. Man this grinder I think is a lot more solid. For $200 bucks, it blows me away. Have all sorts of grinders but really digging it. I hope you are pleased when it arrives.
@czibbell74 Can i have your update about the grinder? I'm interested to buy
Just placed my order. I'm gonna try to sell my SD40 when the SK40 arrives.
We are all waiting for our SK40 to arrive. Any idea how many lb of coffee will it take to break in the burrs? Espresso setting is, what?. 4 to start?
Every grinder will be different for espresso settings. 4-6 probably good starting point. Id recommend not force seasoning the grinder. Just use it. Conicals break in different than flats. 5# it should start smoothing out.
Portakeeper, you uploaed superb ~later. 🤗
Portakeeper- is the aluminum or stainless steel funnel as heavy as the v1. My sd40 funnel which was an upgrade for 10 bucks is heavy. Is the new black one the same weight. ?
same funnel, aluminum
anyone know if there are any suppliers in Australia? thx
Unfortunately do not know.
@@portakeeper no worries, i ended up going with the
Baratza Encore ESP
Screw it I bought it
I just did too lol. I now have a SD40 up for sale when this one comes in 😂
Trigger squeezed… get the niche next time
