"There's no way to get hurt in here, just enjoy yourself."
Fun Fact: The robot that Yul Brynner portrays is an homage/spoof of his character Chris from The Magnificent Seven (1960) and wears the same costume.
Practical Make-Up Effect Fact: When the Gunslinger robot is splashed in the face with acid, Yul Brynner's face was coated with an oil-based make-up mixed with ground Alka-Seltzer. A splash of water then produced the fizzing effect.
Computer Graphics Fact: The first use of computer digitized images as part of a feature film (not merely monitor graphics) was the Gunslinger's (Yul Brynner) point of view in Westworld. After the process was finally developed enough to produce satisfactory results, it took a mere eight hours to produce each ten seconds of footage for the Gunslinger's pixelated POV.

Detaching Yul Brynner's face plate actually came across as a shock way back when. Yul Brynner filled in for Lee Van Cleef in Adiós, Sabata (1970) and played the lead in Villa Rides (1968) alongside Charles Bronson and Robert Mitchum. He played a German merchant ship captain during WWII in Morituri (1965) alongside Marlon Brando and Janet Margolin. Michael Crichton's other big contribution to seventies film came in Robert Wise's 1971 adaptation of his novel The Andromeda Strain. The Westworld HBO reboot was pretty good for a couple of seasons. Same initial premise with serious special effects updates along with greater literary pretensions -- Shakespeare, Orwell, Huxley, Nietzsche -- to complement the top notch acting. Ed Harris, Thandiwe Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, along with Anthony Hopkins. But when it comes to Western television shows made in recent decades check out Deadwood and Hell On Wheels first.

I think the red footprints are supposed to be infra-red heat signatures; the ground is very slightly warmer where it's been stepped on, and the robot is sensitive enough to discern it. They look a little unrealistic today now that everyone's seen what real infrared video looks like in other stuff.
I do love the symbolism of the robot being confused by the infra-red image of the torch flames - as he breaks out of his programming and begins to learn and develop as a sentient organism, it's like his "species" equivalent to the moment early human beings first saw fire.

The Car 1977 again starring James Brolin, Josh Brolin’s father. The Car is a low budget hidden gem horror flick.
Sheriff Wade Parents (James Brolin) is called in to investigate, and his deputy, Everett (John Marley), is killed by a black sedan, which, some witnesses say, has no one behind its wheel. When the car threatens a local school parade, the lives of the town's children and Wade's teacher girlfriend, Lauren (Kathleen Lloyd), are endangered.

I love this film. Watched it for the first time decades ago as a young kid on late night TV. The Yul Brynner character must have been what the Terminator was based on. So scary and very, very effective. I was extremely excited when I heard that they were basing a TV series on this film. The series is well worth checking out. I much preferred the 1973 movie version of "Westworld" to the HBO series. The movie accomplishes the idea of robots achieving malevolent sentience in that one single shot of Yul Brenner smiling than it took the series an entire season to develop.
