  • Clarkson was wrong, I don't think criminals could put up with the "restricted performance" light. I could make this a nine disk box set, or a series of short stories. Let's talk Jags.

Nice overview! I don't like some interior materials either, especially cheap-ish plastic around steering wheel (headlights/wipers/turn signals controls) and radio/nav system.
My solution to prevent wear and tear on bolsters is to use the function which automatically pulls in the steering wheel column and pushes driver's seat back as soon as you turn off the car. It creates much more room for climbing in and out of the car so you don't have to brush against bolsters every time.

The Fun really kicks in, when U get used to handling the J-Gate on corners.
The X300 X308 XJs were the lowest among all the XJ versions.
It is a psychedelic mix of Luxury and Musclecar power, while sitting as low as in a Sportscar.
Don't forget, these XJ Supercharged have no variable valves, and an MB 5G-Tronic Transmission, which makes them very reliable, and the V8 Engine was voted top ten best engines of 2000, by Ward's.
I got a X308 for 3 years, had some issues with car going into emergency mode, because of air intake pipe, before air filter wasn't connected properly on to the car.
After a restart, the warning was gone, until I solved the problem by refitting that air intake pipe properly..
Emergency mode will put the Car in 2nd gear only, Restricted Power can mean, the car can still have the same power, but sensors indicated for example a foul spark or ignition coil.
Drove it for months without issues, as a daily driver.
Recently did a 600Mile trip, on 1 day, while knowing my rear wheel barring needed replacement.
That is how confident I am with these X308s.
Only just this week, I found out, that this supercharged engine, uses 2 Fuel pumps, 1 is only for boost on full throttle !
    Greetings!

Ive had about 7 jaguars now, and currently own 2 X308s, and the first one i bought. a 1999 XJ8 in the same colour as yours with only 76,xxx miles. i got for $1500 CAD!! I have been driving it as a daily for the last 4 months and have owned it for almost a year and a half. and ive had to replace front shock mounts, driver interior door handle, and speakers. though i have the intermittent ABS/restricted performance every now and then. But for the money i paid. It has been AMAZING value, and also has never left me stranded. Granted both my XJ8s have had the timing chain guides changed to the metal ones thankfully so i havent had to deal with that. but i have had much worse luck with other more cheaper cars that ive bought (01 chevy impala headgaskets, northstar cadillacs, Chevy blazer etc). it all honestly depends on how well you do with the purchase in my opinion. but they are great cars. ( I would rather a X300 or X306 100% though)

I have been a Jag lover all my life. 60years plus. They all look good on photos and videos. They are great cars and nothing compares to them. Getting a good one is the trick and is very difficult. Mine is a 1996 XJ6 with very low milage. I go for quality over speed, and I have noted that the more modern cars like your V8's have cut corners on seat leather quality etc., for the faster car. So if one prefers speed via V8's and supercharged then one has to put up with the extra cost and maintenence. I have learnt that I can't use speed anymore where I live. We have speed limits. But I can enjoy the other quality of a good Jaguar car.

I have had a 99 XJR for ten years. It's black on black with asteroid wheels. I do all of my own work and since I have learned about Jags it really isn't too complicated. It can be time consuming and sourcing parts can be a pain with either affordability or availability being the issues. However I love my car and this is the only car I have owned this long and no plans to ever sell. It's my third Jag but probably not my last. It can be a fickle bitch though but it still brings me joy.

restricted performance is the mass air flow sensor just behind the air filter box, a can of electrical cleaner done the job for me, a lot of people think its the glass prob you can see that's the issue but there's actually second prob above it inside the sensor on the board, I had this issue 7 years ago, I kept cleaning the one you can see until I realised there was a second prob, once I cleaned that its never come back

@@Pcoso clean the MAF sensor, there are two probs on it, one is easy to see and actually fooled me by thinking that was all it was the only one but there is another inside the sensor housing which is hidden from sight.
If you look around the one you can see, there is a channel where air goes up inside the sensor to the board and back down through another channel, if you look up in there you will see another slightly different looking prob on the board itself, has the same honey looking colour as the one you can see but shaped differently.
I bought some electrical cleaner and gave it a good dose in there a few times, it won't harm it as it is meant for cleaning electronic, then just leave it to dry and test again, This fixed the issue on mine and its been 7 years and never had it come back.

I live in Northern VA and recently bought a 2008 Jaguar XJ8L (botanical green) and a 1994 Jaguar XJS (burgundy w/ beige interior). I love 'em both. 😁 Can you recommend a good, nondealership Jag mechanic in the Richmond or Northern VA area?

Got my black xj8 4.0. After two weeks of driving I love this car. Came from a BMW 7 series. I have to say the Jag is not an 7 series 😄 The allover quality just can't keep up with BMW. But still, I love my Jag. Its a car you don't see much here in Germany

One of the truths that caused Brexit: it is generally believed in England that Germans are still very nationalistic. One test we use is to mention ANYTHING you do in England and count in seconds before a German tells you how much better that thing is done in Germany."In Germany.......
When Land Rover produced the Evoke sales around the world were very high apart from two countries germany and France. It convinced people that we could never manage equal export /import situation. We bought German cars.Germans will never buy British. It is what is known as an uneven playing field through hidden bias.So the best thing to do is withdraw, limit trade with Europe and look elsewhere in the long term.
Sales of Range Rovers rocketed in US,China,India....

  • @eleeco8627
    @eleeco8627 Před rokem

"Restricted Performance" is the invoking of a 3000 RPM rev limit by the PCM. Some of the common causes are throttle motor or sensor malfunction, excessively lean fuel mixture, as well as some other powertrain faults. I had a brake switch fault on my 2000 XJR that would go into this mode with the cruise control engaged.

I also have an X Type. Mine is a 2006 but only 2.1ltr. I did have the 3ltr model which was probably even faster than my 1996 4ltr XJ6. I can't use speed where I live because we have speed limits, but I have always enjoyed the traditional classic styling of Jaguars, more than the speed that most people seem to be crazy about, and often over quality.
