In 1933 my Grandma was 11, and she lost her mother to cancer. She helped raise me, and I would recommend for anyone who still have elders in their life is to talk to them and glean as much as you can from them.

@@annieoakley1905 when I was a kid, I would go with my Mom to visit elderly neighbors in convalescent care facilities. I would be in the hallways taking to the old folks, most in wheelchairs, asking them about their lives when they were younger. I met a few that remember traveling by covered wagon from the east coast with their parents. Being scared by the sight of Indians, crossing a large river, or burying a fellow traveler by the wagon trail. I looked forward to those visits.

People all around me are living it up, trips to Disney🤮, making big purchases, one of my siblings just took a 20K two week trip, they have no idea of what’s coming and treat me like I’m simple minded. I’m just keeping my head down and living modestly, I’m self employed, so I work at that and garden and harvest and preserve.

We are already seeing drastic changes in our local supermarket. They are out of a lot of items. The meat section is getting smaller and so are the portions because people can't afford larger packages of meat. They have removed a lot of the isles and now the isles are wider. People are commenting how they can't believe what's happening and expressing shock over prices and the lack of items.

My grandfather was born in 1899 and grandmother in 1908. Father was born in 1933, southern Iowa farm family that almost starved to death. Oh the stories! Anyway, so many people think country living will protect you, no it wont. Yes, some made it just fine but some didn’t. I grew up working huge gardens, because my father was starved and feared it would happen again. We had a small farm, but dad worked on the railroad, while mom and us worked the garden and canned everything. I was so mad at the time, oh those weeds! Luckily dad built a small lake with a sand beach and dock, literally all the school kids would come to our house and swim all summer. That saved us after working the garden, we ran and jumped off that dock into the coolest beautiful water. Anyway, we have the opportunity now, and have been warned for years now to stock up. Canned foods are still reasonably priced on sale. They didn’t have walmart back then! We are spoiled and don’t even know it. Buy five cans a week, buy pasta, beans and rice. Keystone meats may seem high, but $10 for the equivalent of two pounds of roast already canned for you is cheap! Anyway, need to water the garden, i was learning skills and didn’t even know it growing up. We live in the country, i have a garden, but no farm animals. I’m more convinced to stock the shelves and preserve. Not against having livestock, but you have to feed them and keep them safe. There is not just one answer. We have been warned over and over, stock up now.

Funny you mentioned the breadlines during the Great Depression. I have stated many times, as I believe we are looking at a Depression that will make the Great Depression look like a recession, but bottom line, in today's Society, can anyone imagine people getting in lines, blocks long, to get a bowl of soup and bread? Ain't going to happen this time around and it is going to be total Chaos.

When you buy it, you have to pay more than it's worth. When you sell it, you get less than it's worth. Try to buy something at the store with it. Try to barter with it. You can't. And what will you do when the government makes private ownership or trading of gold illegal again? You'll be stuck. Gold is a fool's investment or hedge pushed by the gold brokers. Investing the same amount of money in your own business will bring much higher returns. But by all means, do what you want.

There are so many threats to stability out there that it is crazy. A prudent person would look at all, as you suggest, and make some preparations to thrive under any and all circumstances. I personally believe that way too many prepare for just one scenario and quite often focus on just one point in the timeline of that particular event (scenario) instead of being more broad based and better prepared.

  • @harpjason208
    @harpjason208 Před měsícem +1

My understanding is the ONLY reason to buy gold and silver is as an insurance policy . 10% of your net worth is commonly held as sufficient.
If you are the type to invest in silver and gold to swing trade the dips in the stock market or housing market that is a good strategy as well.
When the time comes sell your gains to buy reduced price houses/ apartments/ commercial property and/or discounted stocks/ mutual funds .
As long as you go into it with the understanding that riches aren't made on one trade and you must follow the cycles you can increase your net worth over many years if not decades.

Steve great topic as usual the only question I have is what’s the definition of a depression? The problem is they’ve been renaming it for so long because both political parties don’t want to touch it that neither one of them would admit to it anyway over the last five 810 years how many times have we heard the word recession and depression X amount of quarters of inflation whatever and it never seems to make any difference
Neither wants to admit to it because they know that it would affect them in the polls and elections
So they just completely ignore it
    They change the definitions
    They play with the numbers
Or like KJP and Jenn sake they just lie about it
But I think we all feel it
We all go to the grocery store we all pay our mortgages we all fill up the gas tank by our kids clothes
I just don’t understand how people can’t use that as a motivator when they go to vote
    The economy
    The border
National security should be top issues for people
Frailty and weakness of the current administration both physically and mentally
    Period

People I know are now talking about how bad the economy is getting.
People I have never heard voice opinions about anything.
    People calling me, asking questions.
I am very vocal about being prepared for anything and everything.
They used to think I was crazy.
Now they want to know how to get started.
I have never discussed politics with them.
I spoke about preparing for a personal economic meltdown.
Job loss, death of breadwinner, illness, natural disaster.
These same people are now seeing the politics all on their own.
As long as they are prepping, it doesn’t matter why.
I do tell them what Steve says about becoming preparedness minded not a prepper.
I also tell them panicking gets them nowhere fast.
I always refer them to Steve’s videos and a few other CZcamsrs.
The nuts and bolts are important but so is using logic and reason.

We came close to another Depression in the 2008 crash, but the depths of despair in the Great One was much worse. Remember, there were NO social programs then, no Social Security, no Foodstamps, no Welfare, no free Medical. I have my brandmother's letters and it was horrible. My grandfather abandoned his family of 7 kids to find work and never came back. 3 of the kids died. God I hope you're wrong, but worry that you are right. MANY more would die, people are just not self-sufficient anymore.

All we have in the end is our tenacity and allot of luck. Knowing a little bit a jack will help with the pile of 💩 about to fall on us. Will it be the same, no. Will you be as frugal as you're four father's, maybe. Will it get better, eventually but it will take time and hard work like we've never seen. Every day you wake (they) lose a little bit of ground.
