  • I'd like to share with you my way of hiding dashcam wire in my Ford F-150. There is virtually no visible wiring after the installation. The steps are simple and takes very little time to do. The end result is awesome.

    Very nice job! I appreciate how you used an existing power port instead of wiring into the fuse box. Definitely something I am going to look at for my 2021 F150 truck.

    That’s a good start. You removed a lot of trim. I would’ve pulled the passenger seat up and got underneath the carpet with your cable to where it doesn’t interfere with the seat brackets, then got in the console.

    Keep in mind you loose parking mode completely by powering the camera via USB as shown. It’s very simple to use the fuse taps included in the hardwire kit at the fuse panel. This was all the work of a proper hardwire installation with none of the benefits. Pulling the trim and hiding wires is the hardest part.

    Hi Ding, i found your way more easier. Where did you get the rear view mirror cable holder. Do you have the link? Thanks

    you can also go under the center console I found that out when I lost a credit card down the side of the console and only found it because I slid the seat all the way back and found it barely sticking out on the passenger side of the console.

    Did your camera flicker or get a white screen? I don’t know if it’s the cables or just the adapter that doesn’t give it enough power

      My camera working properly. Can you try take off the camera and use a different power source? This will help determine if the issue is your power source or the camera itself

    Great video. I like this approach. “Santa” got me the very same camera for my 17 F150. Is there an issue with the cigarette lighter power supply? I heard that they don’t power off for up to an hour after the truck is shut off. I don’t want anything to be drawing the battery.

    • @DingsWorkshop
      @DingsWorkshop  Před rokem +1

      Thanks! I didn’t notice about the lighter port having power for that long after turning off the car.

    • @DingsWorkshop
      @DingsWorkshop  Před rokem +1

      Also, the camera has an internal battery that should keep it running for sometime after turning off the truck.

      I tested my 12v plug in the console. It stays hot for up to an hour. I wasn’t comfortable with that. I ran the wires the same way you did but with a couple changes. I ran the wire under the front floor mat and
      between the seat and console. I have 2 USB ports in the back side of the console that never get used. When I removed the cup holder and rear console cover it occurred to me that could just pull out one the the USB’s and let them hang inside the cover. I simply plugged the power cord into the loose USB. I tide up the remaining wire with a zip tie and just left it in the open space. Put everything back together. Only visible wire you can see is near the camera itself. Everything else is 100 % hidden.

    I wired my can to the same spot in the center console but that plug works independent of the car ignition which means my camera was on 24/7. This is on a 2022 F150 :(

    • @DingsWorkshop
      @DingsWorkshop  Před rokem

      I think I read somewhere that the center console stays powered for about 1 hour? 24/7 sounds very strange!

    • @johnniebkid
      @johnniebkid Před rokem

      Your camera does not stay on 24/7. It has to be hard wired to the fuse panel in the 32 slot.

    You were doing such a nice job; and then you laid it on the floor in the back under the mat. 🤦🏻

  • @minnick99
    @minnick99 Před 10 měsíci +1

    Why not jus tap into the connector on the rear view instead of running a wire throughout the truck? Black wire is power, green is ground. Automatically powers on and off with the truck.

    • @maseratijim
      @maseratijim Před 9 měsíci

      Good idea! Just have to make sure you use a 12Volt to 5 Volt USB converter adapter for the connection to the camera. Otherwise you have a mismatch on voltage, and the camera may not have an internal voltage converter.

    SOME TECHNICIAN will install to the ACC directly connected to the fuse box UNDER steering wheel, which is more stable power supply than the lighter plug.
