- Celine Dion sings the American and Canadian national anthems prior to the start of the Montreal Expos' home opener versus the Philadelphia Phillies on April 13, 1984. Celine was just two weeks past her sixteenth birthday.
Gaetan Boucher and other members of the 1984 Canadian Winter Olympic team were also honored before this game, and in the 4th inning Pete Rose collected his historic 4000th hit.

wow, it doesnt get better than this for good memories here in MTL. Mid 80's, still a teenager, loved the expos, baseball was great.. I see Carter, Raines, etc.. Then i hear Dave and Duke. boy did i love listening to those 2. i can hear them all day on my transistor radio. It was so relaxing and fun. Great times, indeed. Boy how i wish that time can come back again.. Not just having the expos back only.. but being a kid again and going to the big 0 with my friends, and seeing the sun shine into the stadium...and just have fun being a kid and watching the expos..

Yep but clearly she had the goods from jump. Serious instrument that she nurtured and she was nurtured as an artist as well.
Say what you will about him but René Angelil is the one that nurtured that instrument and without him she would never have made it in the US.

No she didn't know English because she learned it in 1990 ish, and she did pretty good for not knowing what she was singing! aha

Celine Deion is from Canada, they grow up speaking French and English simultaneously.
I'd think Celine could speak a little English by then but still taking Berlitz courses for English. Other people are right about her able to sing songs in English, but Celine wanted to communicate in English too.
