What does it take to become a prima ballerina? In this intimate film by director Michael Sugrue, we follow Olga Smirnova, a rising star at the prestigious Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Russia. It’s a story about perseverance. The grueling dedication and sacrifices a young ballerina makes to see her dreams come to fruition.
Capturing the St. Petersburg native over two days, take take you inside Smirnova’s world, consumed with rehearsals and little time to breathe. Running on all cylinders, you witness her unwavering work ethic - dancing from dusk until dawn - and the lonely existence she leads, as a result. But she doesn’t seem to mind. She’s living her dream.
In 2013, she won the International Ballet Dance Open Award in the category of “Miss Expressive” and the “Spirit of Dance” award (“Rising Star” nomination) from Ballet magazine, as well as the prize of the International Dance Association Benois de la Danse for her performances of Nikia in La Bayadère, Aspichchia in The Pharaoh’s Daughter, Anastasia in Ivan the Terrible and the principal role in Diamonds of the ballet Jewels.
Smirnova made her debut with American Ballet Theatre in 2014 dancing Nikiya in La Bayadère. Please leave a comment about Olga Smirnova and share her story!

A beautiful film of a dedicated talented lady and ballerina, but no one ,absolutely no one can hold a candle to Svetlana Zakharova in her prime, those long legs exquisite feet and arches arms AND a stunning beauty to boot, she has it all , she spoils you for any other dancer be it Osipova or Smirnova. There will never ever be another Svetlana Z. She was the whole package, so blessed

      @mathildewesendonck7225 Před 3 lety +27

Maybe you watch some videos of Olga dancing contemporary works, like Maillot, Neumeyer etc., and you will change your mind. Olga and Svetlana are sooo different, but they are both Vaganova trained and technically and artistically 1st class. The rest is personal preference. If you like to choose first place and second place and so on, you should rather watch sports and not ballet. I find it disrespectful if people can‘t respect that artists are all individuals, and that there are many ways to interprete a role.

    This is Olga Smirnova.
    A Russian ballerina.
    About her the BBC writes.
Because Olga finally had enlightenment, and she declared that she was "against the war with all the fibers of her soul."
Then she left Russia to join the Dutch National Ballet.
Who received her immediately and with warm embraces.
Now she will dance beautifully in Europe.
    And this is Artem Datsyshyn.
A Ballet dancer of the National Opera of Ukraine and winner of international competitions.
    He will never dance again.
He died at the hands of the Russian occupiers.
That's all you need to know about culture outside of politics.
On the prospects of unity under the auspices of culture.
And about the price of war. Which we pay.
    And which they (Russians) use.

Not mine, but sign under each word .. Every time you will say about the Velician Russian Baliat, I will tell you the story repeatedly raped in my parents, and then stolen by Russian Nunovides of a young teacher from Brovary. About dozens, and maybe hundreds of raped Ukrainian women. Often in front of children. About 15-16 annual girls from Borodyanka, who suffered a terrible violence by Kadillians. About the body of five raped young girls killed and left right on the road. About this is vile "Billing of Mr. Khokhlushek" in the vessels. That's what I will tell you in response to the Ghanim Velician Russian Baliat. Every time you will tell me about the Weliki Russian compositors, I will tell you a girl's history, in my eyes and her little brother in Mariupol basement did not die their mom. And then the children were forced with a corpse of dead mother and then hide in the basement from shelling. About the boy from Gostomel, in the eyes of which Russian soldiers shot his father. And then wanted to kill his son, but he survived. About a girl who shot straight into her face. About a kid who escaped with grandmother in a boat. Grandma drowned. And the boy is looking for almost a month. That's what I will tell you in response to the Ghana Veliki Rus compositors. Every time you will tell me about Velico Peach Ice, I will tell you about shot in the back of peaceful Ukrainians in Makariv district. And before shot, the orcs tied their hands. About hundreds of corpses on the streets of Bucha, Irpin, Gostomel. About brothers graves in the courtyards of residential quarters. Brotherhood graves of peaceful residents until recently cozy and safe cities. Brotherhood graves. In the 21st century. That's what I tell you in response to Ganimaya Velicu Highly. Every time you will tell me about the Velician Russian TEETTER, I will tell you a woman's history from Brovarsky district, from a house of Russian marauders, retreating, removed metal tiles. About tanks and bps "Second Army of the World", loaded on the crown looted in Ukrainian homes. Stuffed phones, tablets, TVs, laundry machines, carpets, decorations, bottles of alcohol, pans, clothing, toys, shoes - all that happened on the way to these freaks. About how to get to Belarus, they were sent to the familiar families in Russia. About how traded stolen in the Belarusian bazaars. That's what I will tell you in response to the Ghanymel Welical Rus Theater. Each time you will tell me about the movies moving cinema, I will tell you about brutally shot horses in the Kidneys in the Kyiv region. About the choy and thirst for animals zoo in Yasnarod. About burned after blasting the skin of the deer. And now the maximum savage ... About the murdered and eaten by the Russian occupants of Alaba. Yes Alabaa. Yes, dogs. Yes eaten. That's what I will tell you in response to a manifold movement moving cinema. Every time you will tell me about the Velicon Running Litter, I will tell you about dozens of giving the conversations of Russian soldiers with their mothers and wives. Conversations in which except on * im on the nah * ert nothing. Conversations in which wives order that they steal in Ukrainian buildings. Conversations where mothers are laughing when the Snicks tell us as their best rape Khokhlushek. And if from these conversations to throw away all mothers, in them, it is like "PRIVIT" and "Show". That's what I tell you in response to letting the letting the liqueur. More no one has no village Russian culture, literature, kin, health, TEATER and BALITET. There is a country of freaks, masters, rape and murderers. Wild people who have no place in a civilized world! And the largest newly-shaved Russian dissidents in the cozy apartments of Berlin, London, Larnaca, Milan, Tbilisi, Astana, Vienna and other temporary index, hi go on the route of the Russian ship, proudly carrying In the hands of the Velicu Russelle culture! #Olenapshenyla p.s.
