This is why I love Skillet. Their lyrics are so deep and brilliant and the sound is amazing. Also, John Cooper is a fantastic singer.
Seeing this band live and hearing them sing this song really changed me.
How John talked about fans coming up to him after shows - telling him how this song (The last night) saved them from ending their lives or what's wrong in their lives becomes a little less heavy when they listen to Skillets songs.
He said that he feels for us all, how sorry he is for all we are going through, he said he's proud of us for still being here - for living. It all became real to me.
He's here, he cares for us - this song is for us - the helpless, the hopeless and the ones without anyone else at their sides.
Kinda the whole point of lyrics... Not trynna bring you down (great story by the way) but it's self explanatory in the lyrics...
Yeah, but as I said: it became real to /me/. You can listen to a song a million times but hearing someone tell that you they care changes you. I had never felt like that before then.

As a person that has been through the thought of suicide and still goes through it I would never wish that someone thinks that they need to kill themselves because that is the worst feeling in the world and no one should ever go through it. Plenty have thought of suicide but everyone should know that everyone has a purpose and were brought into this world for a reason and that no one is never as alone as they may think. There will always be someone that will hold you in their arms and never let go and those are the people that care about you and if they truly care for you they will never let you give up.
My boyfriend told me "I'll wrap you in my arms and won't let you go " I love home so much it's been 13 years now since he told me that now we have a daughter that we love very much ❤️

Just because you don't understand cutters doesn't give you the right to say negative things about them. You don't know what they go through. You say they can't deal with their problems? They make it through ALIVE! You say they are weak? They are STRONG and BRAVE. They can change the world because they see the battles people go through, whether visible or hidden. They can give true compassion and love to those who need it because they understand. I used to be a cutter and there were moments when I thought suicide was the way out. God saved, changed, and healed me. And it is songs like this that brought me to my knees and reminded me that God is there, offering comfort and love. To those of you who quote scripture in the hope of judging cutters, think about what the Bible says about judging. Please choose your words wisely because they have a lot of power.

I love this song so much, it's so caring, gentle but rough at the same time, it has a message, it shows that people are always there no matter what. I live for these songs.
Listening to this now in 2018 and remembering how many nights I spent during my middle school years feeling so, so alone and just in need of someone that cared and I used to listen to this and imagine that the singer actually cared what happened to me. I knew it wasn't true, but it and many other songs and lies to myself got me through, so who cares how ridiculous it sounds now? I'm alive because of this song and a few others and I won't ever forget that music is what saved me. :)

When I was a kid I didn't really understand that what I was dealing with wasn't normal. I didn't know that feeling lonely, hating yourself, having parents who didn't understand you... all of that wasn't normal. I just knew that listening to Skillet helped me cope with it. I'm an adult now and listening to these old songs again, I realize how much this song in particular meant to me.
I saw them in concert two nights ago! They were amazing!!! He gave a small speech before they did this song, about what it meant and such... it was really motivating and made me feel better... Skillet is my favorite band.
Last night i was ready to end my life and i wanted to listen to a song one last time... this song was the song that popped up when i put my ipod on shuffle... It stopped me... I never knew that a song could be the one thing that stopped me, but it did. This song portrays a great message. Thanks Skillet for the amazing song, it is literally a life saver.

Try to face reality, else you'll end up being lonely and introverted, with no love, no friends and no feelings whatsoever, which basically means depression.

This song reminds me that theres some kind of hope even when your depressed and its never to late to turn back and seek support i used to cut my wrists and supportive people did not give up on me and neither did god thank you god

Thanks, I'm glad. I'm not really looking yet, though. I want to wait until I know I can protect that special girl and all she holds dear. This might be wishful thinking, but I want my first relationship to be my only relationship. I'm super protective, so I don't want to rush things and end up causing a girl pain. I know I can't protect a girl from everything, but that's where God proves His might. He'll do what I can't. After all, that girl is his daughter. I just need to work on trusting him.

About a week ago i sat in the bathroom staring at the sink. I had a plan. I was praying for a sign, when my cat i got last month,was batting at my hand under the door. I washed my face and emptied the sink because he was my sign. Jack came to me for a reason and is helping me remember how loved i am. Its never over.

Me and a few of the other girls in the treatment center that I went to listened to this song, everyday. Skillet is the best music when you feel alone, depressed or just unwanted. Never forget that you are never alone... there are angels watching over you -
I was suffering a great depression and thinking about suicide more often than not for over two years when one of my two closest friends sent me this song. I couldn't stop crying for what felt like hours because for once I was truly happy. I was happy someone noticed something was wrong and wanted to help me, in stead of agreeing that I should kill myself (like my father did). A few months later I started on a new school and felt completely lost and alone because it was pretty far away from where I live. But not even half a year later I met my current boyfriend who I could tell everything, from my cousin's suicide to being raped. I was afraid he would hate me, think I was disgusting and that he would leave me like (almost) everyone else.
But now, almost a year later, we're the best couple I could imagine and I have never been happier. No, I'm not completely healed from my depression, but I'm getting there.
So, even if you haven't read my whole story, just know things will be better. I never believed it either, but it's really true! =)

the same thing with my ex girlfriend she used to do the same thing but i always win when it comes to convincing girl not to try and commit suicide :)

Repetition begets belief. I struggled with depression a lot pretty much all of my teen and adult life. I didn’t really talk about it too much but I still felt dead already on the inside and didn't want to go on. Then I met my best friend, who I didn't know at the time was going to be my best friend. He was just a really good and caring person. Somehow he caught on to my low self-esteem and insecurities on a non-verbal level and began regularly feeding me praise and encouraging words. Every so often he would send me these long detailed text messages listing all the things I was doing right and how much he appreciated me, and at work he would often compliment me and commend me to other people. (He was my boss at the time.) It didn't really work for a while, but he still continually persisted, gradually breaking down the wall of doubt and countering the negative voices in my head. Now he's my best friend in the world, worth a hundred regular ones, and I'm not alone anymore. I have to go on, because someone actually thinks I'm worth keeping around, that I'm not a burden, that I actually have something to contribute. Someone cares whether I make it to tomorrow. Someone would miss me if I disappeared. He's still there for me, even though we don't work together anymore, and he still picks me up whenever I'm feeling down and makes sure I know he's just a phone call away. His words still echo inside my and hold me accountable when I criticize myself. I think: "What would D- think about what I'm saying to myself right now?" and the negative voices get shut up a lot easier now. I think about him when I hear this song or "Looking for Angels", because he is the angel who pulled me out of the metaphorical gutter. For some of us it will always be a battle, but friends do make a difference. Mine did what no pill or therapist could. Just keep persisting, and one day your friend may thank you the way I'm always thanking mine. Don't let up. I realize it's been years and you may not need these words anymore, but I just want to reach out to all the friends of people who suffer from depression and let them know it's not in vain. Keep trying and don't give up.

i first started hearing about skillet back when they were new and i was in 4th or 5th grade and when i found out like 5 years later that they were a christian rock band i was pretty shocked.
I agree with alot of what u r saying. i also above all believe that God gives us free will. Your love for that girl is admirable, and if we all loved each other like that the world would be a much better place. Just remember to put God first and seek Him above all and the rest will take care of itself.
