A Polyglot Meets A Deaf Fan… This Happened!

  • A while back, my friend Brian (Argentinian Food Vlogger in China) came to visit DC, and we went out to surprise Chinese people in the largest “Chinatown” in Washington, D.C. (Rockville) and make friends. I ended up meeting a group of Deaf students from Gallaudet University, the #1 school in the U.S. for the Deaf. One of theme ended up being a fan of Brian and I! Everyone was super nice and it ended up being one of the cooler interactions I’ve had since I started filming these videos. I hope you guys enjoy!
In this video you’ll see two latinos speaking Chinese (White guys speaking Chinese?), but we were also speaking Cantonese, speaking Spanish, and speaking Italian throughout the day. Anyway, we had some awesome conversations where we surprised Chinese people and they had some great reactions!
I love learning foreign languages because you get to meet and have conversations with people in a way that you probably never would otherwise. If you’re considering learning another language, I highly recommend it, and right now while we’re all locked up is a great time to do it!

Us Deaf people don't have "Hearing difficulties". That's like saying Hearing people have cognitive difficulties in comprehending that there is a completely separate culture that doesn't need sounds at all. Therefore, it is more apt to see the Hearing society as disabled.

@@Weirdpoe The lady said 'my hearing isn't very good' so i didn't assume she was deaf in that sense, i always associated 'deaf' as cannot hear at all, but what you have to understand as well, my mother is like this lady and my mother calls it hearing difficulties so who am i to argue.
But in regards to my comment, i know my mother is very sensitive about her hearing and very self-conscious about it, so i thought maybe the girl is similar as she apologizes about it when ofc why should she, my mum would never have the guys to approach ppl she doesn't know and isn't comfortable with like that which is why i think she's brave.

If you were to learn another language, ASL would be a good one. Since you live in washington, I suspect there would be a larger population that uses ASL due to Gallaudet University being the only university in the world that is specifically designed for the deaf and hard of hearing. Would be really cool to see you go out and use ASL just as you go out and speak other languages. Knowing ASL will open you up to a whole new community that you probably never knew existed.
