  • The Kurogane Line is the common name of a dedicated railway line built by Nippon Steel Corporation to connect the Yahata district (Tobata) and the Yahata district (Yahata) of Nippon Steel Kyushu Works in the Tobata and Yahata-Higashi wards of Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
    As the railway is dedicated to the plant, there is no timetable and it is not shown on the route map.
    They are usually operated by a combination of the new electric diesel locomotive E1401 and 70DD-3 class (D704).

    The longest train I saw while living in Japan was 13 freight cars, so this one is special as it is over twice that and multi engined. Where I live now, trains are 170 car drags with up to 6 engines, either all grain cars, or all coal cars. Have fun

    Reminds me of the inter-plant operations around the steel mills of Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Gary, Indiana that I remember seeing while traveling as a youngster back in the 40's and 50's. The wide variety of hot bottle cars, flat cars and gondolas in motion or sitting in yards waiting for their next move. Ore cars and hopper cars full of coal, coke and limestone being shuttled around prior to their loads being dumped into a blast furnace. Most of those scenes are now long gone.

    There was a steel mill,literally on the line,from Harrisburg,on the old PRR,that was on the mainline! Steelton was a working steel operation,and passenger trains,would go right by the furnaces,and the heat was felt,several tracks away from the pouring steel! You had a literal ringside seat! All gone! But the memory remains! Thank you! Thank you 😇 😊!

      @@IndustrialParrot2816 Yes,sir! The time I was at that school,was from 1959-1962! And the PRR mains were loaded! My first year there,I took a train from Newport[since closed],and while waiting for the Eastbound,saw a Centipede,out of Enola,with a train of CN stockcars,absolutely awesome,especially for a 15 year old! All gone,now,even my old high school! Thank you,for your attention! Thank you 😇 😊!

    There probably is a timetable on that line, it's just not public. It's much easier to run a rail service if there are certain time slots reserved for certain train movements...
    Train spotters in Britain tend to make their own timetables for freight services from what they see, and they are known to be quite close to the actual timetables of those lines (they know how to calculate a timetable from just watching the trains go by)...

    • @IndustrialParrot2816
      @IndustrialParrot2816 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Actually I'd say probably not, most Railroads in the US dont run a timetable anymore

    • @sepruecom
      @sepruecom Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@IndustrialParrot2816 they do. Rail systems are organized as "train paths" with different speeds and stopping patterns. It wouldn't be possible any other way to run different speed services like express and local passenger trains and freight trains more or less at the same time.
      Punctuality is a completely different question. And one of the reasons why delays "bubble up" and remain all day is because they have to heed the other train path categories too, they can't just skip the freight train to get the express train more on time. That way delays slowly propagate through the entire network, until less crowded times (night time) allow for getting back to the regular train path timetable...

    • @IndustrialParrot2816
      @IndustrialParrot2816 Před 2 měsíci

      @@sepruecom no you forget large swaths of the American railroad network is Single tracked and sees maybe 1 or two Gigantic freight trains each week, and has absolutely no passenger service whatsoever although as for busier lines it might be Double tracked and there might be a timetable if you are on a big Transcon or near a major city, so yes the Waterlevel route or the Hi line or the Southern transcon will be timetabled or maybe just track ordered, but not some lightly used rail line in the Midwest (which makes up the vast swath of the entire North American network)

    • @sepruecom
      @sepruecom Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@IndustrialParrot2816 those are even more timetabled. That's the reason why Amtrac trains are often delayed by days: If the timetabled oncoming train does not appear, they first have to make really, really sure nothing is coming onwards before they let any train go the other way...
      Outside of metropolitan areas trains in the US are mostly timetable-based (they have no signals at all), and any deviation needs to be checked and re-checked before any trains can continue...
      Even your "once-a-week" trains are scheduled for that exact time, and it'll get complicated if they can't keep their schedule for some reason. There'll be usually some connecting line, where they - again - 'll need to be precisely on time...
