I think that the real stumbling block to acceptance of an AI companion is, "Who does it belong to, and where lies its allegiance?" Is your AI companion going to rat you out to the NSA? Serve up tailored ads by Google? Collect personal data for Facebook? The AI companion I use must be beholden to me and no one else.

Phones have replaced every single purpose built device in last 15 years and I don't think this will be any different. Why would it be? It is extremely convenient to have every device but all-in-one that fits in your pocket.

All the things I do on my smartphone can be reached with 2-4 taps. Why would I need to speak to an AI assistant for that? To notify people around me of what I am currently doing? Also why can't it be an app? Does it have to be a separate device because of some unique hardware? Or to send back all the telemetry? Overall, I can't see any advantage in using this instead of my smartphone.

    • @paul1979uk2000
      @paul1979uk2000 Před 5 měsíci

That's the key to this tech, if it's using a central server, there's a lot of privacy and security issues, especially as A.I. becomes more advanced, more useful and has a longer term memory, meaning we'll likely share more with it as it becomes more personalised to us.
There's no way most of us will do that with a central model that sends a lot of our personal data to a corporation or governments, it's going to be a locally run model that sends nothing to them unless we want to send any specific data, and the only internet access it has is for looking up data on what we ask of it.
Fortunately, open source A.I. is developing at a rapid rate and the hardware needed to run them isn't crazy that in the coming years, I suspect most will prefer a locally run model as they get better and the hardware can handle them better.
I think what many of us need to remember, as A.I. becomes more advanced and useful for us, we are going to use it a lot more, that means it's going to intrude in our daily lives a lot more, I can't imagine that being appealing to most of us if it's using a online A.I. model, but a locally run model on the hardware, that's another story.

One thing I've learned over the years is that things get smaller, whiles also being more useful and being able to do more, this is something I expect to happen to an A.I. assistant that we have with us almost all the time.
Personally, I think longer term it will be something that projects the image in front of your eyes, voice controlled, audio could be an earpiece or projected out so you as well as others can hear it.
I don't think it's going to be anything we carry, I think it will be something that is with us at all times that's with us, but doesn't get in the way of our lives.
I also think it will be localised for privacy reasons, that the only time it accesses the internet is when looking for information you're asking for, but not give out personally information, especially as A.I. long term has a long term memory, which means it's going to become a lot more personal to us and very likely mean we share far more with it, meaning, it's a no no for any online A.I. service.
As for this Rabbit device, honestly, I don't see the point in it when our smartphones are with us all the time and can more or less do the same thing, why carry another device with us? and we all know that if that Rabbit device actually took off, smartphones will quickly adapt and make it irrelevant.
Regardless, it's very likely going to be a locally run model that wins out because as A.I. becomes more useful, it's going to intrude into our lives far more, I highly doubt the majority of people would want so much personally information going to an online A.I. centralised model, especially as A.I. becomes more advanced, more useful, longer term memory, there is no way in hell would I use such a thing that sends data back and forth to an online central database, and I highly doubt most people would, because with something like that, we would be sharing far more with it than we do with any social media network like Facebook for instance and it's not going to be needed anyway, with how quickly locally run A.I. models are developing, for privacy and security reasons, it's going to be local on the hardware, whiles having net access to make it more useful in being able to get more information online but never sending any personally information to a central database.

Here are my thoughts, cheating in games but this can be done without it even some monitors are suppose to inc some "AI" tech that potentially could let you cheat. Everything else can be done on a phone with an app. TBH no reason all the functions cant be done with a phone app. The other bad thing is what happens if rabbit goes bust and its bye bye servers. At least with an app on a phone you can switch to another provider. All it takes for rabbit to die is for apple or samsung to make some AI assistant like it. The devices they have are quicker, and there is a chance people will see phone (that they are probably already going to get) vs phone and another device. If the phone does it better, means 1 device its a no brainer. I love the idea dont get me wrong its really cool and something i have wanted for a long time. I just dont think it needs its own device at all. Its not like with a camera where you can justify it with lenses and stuff.

Apple, Google, Facebook or Samsung can NOT make a competitor to Rabbit. Several reasons:
    1) Rabbit is a 3rd party that interacts with the apps and websites in your name, it's just a voice interface. It will unsubscribe your from netflix if you tell it to, a netflix interface will not. Theoretically, it could also feed any app whatever location data you tell it to, Google and Apple won't.
    2) They found a way to go around the app API problem. Until Apple and Google force all app developers to provide an AI API for their apps, there is NO COMPETITION.
    3) Because Rabbit works is on its own device, Apple and Google can't ban it from their app store. Because it uses the app's native GUI, it can't easily be banned by the app developers either.
Realistically, OpenAI's agents are the only competition, but the APIs for all of the apps you want to use for data input, output and actions will take years of development. Software platforms and apps prefer to build their own "AI thing" instead of building an efficient API for chatGPT or their competitors.
