Hello.. 1/2 Freisian, and 1/2 Magyar here - proud to be both.. what I am doing in Toronto Canada is going back to the Gods of both my family lineages - to Germanic paganism and back to Tengriism interested. I've never felt better spiritually than i do now... When I was a little girl in Northern Ontario, I remember coming across an Anishnawbe young man who was obviously performing a sacred right of passage - he signaled to me with his finger across his lips that there was no need to be scared or to scream out as he continued along his way through the woods, in his traditional garb.. I will never forget him, how beautiful he was.. I went through my life learning all the Christian mythology, stories and faith articles, but never felt that it was quite for me. I was privileged enough to do fasting and sweat lodge with some other women, and that was profound.. I was lucky to have some exposure to the Anishnawbe people and the Saulteaux, and I was affected profoundly by them and by nature; it wasn't until, about 7 years ago that I went with my Metis/Anishnaabe partner at the time to the Petroglyphs near Peterborough Ontario.. I am happy now that I smudged before I went in , and brought the 4 sacred medicines to give to the custodian of the teaching rocks, because that day, and for two days after, I had the most profound purging of emotions - I knew change was coming but couldn't put my fingers on it. Afterwards, I realized that because I am white of Indo-European background, I was always longing to belong, and although welcome, felt as if my people were somewhere in the world, somewhere out there... then I discovered my old religions, my ancestral Gods and Goddesses, - now it's as if someone switched on a light, I can feel my connection with nature, with the wind, with people.... my people, the people of the north, of the North sea(s), of the mountains and the Northern forests and my people of the Windhorse and great plains , and the Ural Mountains, are with me even here.
Thankyou for this blot. I have started my path with heathenry about a year ago. I hope to one day attend a Blot this fine. It was interesting to see y'all do this. I'm from Texas, so there's not many places around here for those things, and even there is and there's people there, the land or grounds don't have any history of this culture behind it. Its beautiful, it reminds me old medieval movies but it feels that norwegian really feel all this pagan ancient rites. Its good to feel a live with something you feel. Very good never go the other way no matter what others think and the true its that this old viking ceremony its the nature of the silence within your hearts just like the silence of trees and all the forest.
You have no idea how similar this is to Hindu traditions that are still practiced to this day in rural India. The torch has not gone out completely yet!
Animal sacrifices should be excepted by those of the old faith of our ancestors. It was exceptable to sacrifice the best of the herd at the end of its life. if you are too weak to observe it don't do it. If it's done right with the least amount of suffering it is right. done for the right cause it is right. Horns High to the Old Ways!!!
Roy Rauth Skeggi I reality our European forebears sacrificed animals to eat food which they took the blood for ceremonies. That the reason why Christians pray before they eat that was taken from pagan culture.
Roy Rauth Skeggi Just a little fact for ya.I don't want people to think they sacrificed the animals and just let it rot hanging from a tree(Like the Vikings TV show interprets it as )
Roy Rauth Skeggi I do think it should only be done to animals already close to the end of its life to prevent denying a living thing of years of life for nothing.
Very beautiful and touching! As a new practitioner of the way of our Germanic ancestors, I am always thrilled to see such rituals of our broader Folk. I am South German, Flemish and Castilian Spanish, so my ancestors were from the more southern and outlying regions of the Germanic world. We were "civilized" (Christianized) long before our Scandinavian brethren, yet the history coming full circle as it is the last to be Christianized and now the first to rediscover our ancient faith and helped to show the way to the rest of our native European peoples to reclaim what wasn't completely eradicated but yet remained deep in our hearts, archetypes and even traditions. Hail Odin!
@Daniel Linley I agree in principle, although I have the most direct link back to Swabia but in my looks take after my Spanish great-grandmother's side (based on what I can compare from family pictures). This is also why I am not interested in Asatru and try to reconstruct as much and as closely to my specific regions. My approach has more to do with archaeological findings, what I can reconstruct from surviving folklore (often with just a thinly "Christian" veneer), and the great wisdom we can gather from etymology....than the Norse texts (some of which I entirely reject anyway since it was written by Christian monks). So my bloodline containing alot of Celtic (through Schwaben and Vlaanderen, where Germanic and Celtic tribes blended, as well as Iberia) and likely earlier Neolithic peoples, I honor that too. Just settling for an established Pagan or Heathen practice that's not one's own heritage is disingenuous. I've learned alot in the three years since I wrote that.

@Your Neighbor Is A Bot it's hard to drop what you know and are familiar with. My dad told me that he believes in the Norse gods and claims he is an odinist but now that I look back he still honored the others but just sort of focused on Odin. He had mentioned that our ancestors had worshipped them and the fact that he does has gotten me interested. But I lived with my mom for most of my life and my dad for a couple of years so I was raised Christian and every now and then I feel more drawn to the Norse gods while never having really felt a connection to Christianity, it's a scary feeling to me, dropping what I know (Christianity), even if I feel more drawn to the Norse gods. So I can see how Christian ideals and basic way of practicing religion would transfer over.
@Your Neighbor Is A Bot yeah I noticed a couple people mentioning Odin and how he comes into the video. I didn't see it but that may be my limited knowledge. But I obviously noticed the snowy mountains wich is skadis home and the ocean wich is njords home (I only noticed this because I read about skadi and njord when you suggested it and I believe you mentioned it in your reply) I noticed the fish and the child and other things so I see how it lines up with the story of njord and skadi's wedding. And I think this conversation has sort of helped me out with gaining some confidence going towards making a decision that I feel I need to make. The Norse gods or Christianity. Though I'm not sure of an answer I feel like this has helped me going towards that answer
@Your Neighbor Is A Bot yeah thinking back on the video I can see that now. And yes you have helped thank you very much. I haven't made my decision on I should stay Christian or follow the Norse gods but our conversation surely has helped me gain more courage going towards making my answer so thank you
+Michelle Norse are all over the world. Vikings are specifically Norse pirates. If you haven't sailed and raided you don't deserve the name Viking. There is a difference.
Vikings is actually a verb. "I viking vi gå" for example, and it's actually only used as a name once on every runestone, a man is described as "Tyke Viking". I never use that word, describing the different people who lived in Scandinavia 1000+ years ago. It's sounds rather stupid in my ears.

Yes. Real paganism. Not that hippy Wiccan stuff practiced by ditsy girls. lol
A horse, but they also eat the meat. They do not just senselessly slaughter the animal. They will use all the parts that are possible to use.
