    If any of the video cards on the top right aren't linking to the right video- it's because I'm still working on getting the specific tutorials out for each addon!

    If you have any issues with the addons, please let me know in the comments and I'll try to help!

    A few useful notes on the quick colour changing add-on :
    - after entering your shortcuts (from the ctrl shift a tab in settings), you actually need to restart anki
    - the shortcuts do not work when browsing cards, only when editing cards
    - when using numbers in shortcuts, it only works from the numpad (with num lock on)
    - the 'alt+4' shortcut might not work because it's conflicting with entering unicode symbols, therefore i much more recommend the simpler shortcuts ctrl1,2,3,4
    A few more personal ideas :
    - i don't really like the light blue used for heiban, so i just use "blue" instead
    - alternatively, or rather additionally, you can also have shortcuts like 'ctrl+alt+n' for nakadaka etc.
    - i like to have a ctrl0 shortcut for standard white
    - keep in mind you can really customise it with your shortcuts and (hex) colors, and that it's only shortcuts as whenever you can use the standard anki colouring tool which can also save favourite colors (the 4 hex codes here are : 0000ff, ff0000, 008000, ffa500).
    You can copy and paste my setup in the reply. Hope all of this saves you time.

    I just came across an annoying bug in the Japanese Support addon (latest version of the addon and Anki btw) if you use it for sentences. The furigana produced for this sentence "それはとってもいい話[はなし]だ" will evenly spread the furigana between は and 話! To solve this, put the kanji and its furigana in a span tag (or any other HTML tag). "それはとってもいい話[はなし]だ".

    • @JouzuJuls
      @JouzuJuls  Před 7 měsíci +1

      This is another example of how the latest version of Anki is just nothing but bugs. There is no reason to use the latest version of Anki when a more stable and functional version that supports more addons exist.
      Everything works fine on 2.1.49 czcams.com/video/OapFLtShOjo/video.html

    Really cool that you bring all this tips and details about anki because it's really not a super friendly app or community to get into. Would have liked the extension to offer a way of showing pitch accent with the square graphs instead but I guess this is harder given it doesn't seem to be unicode or something.

    No addon will ever match the power of fsrs with the fsrs helper addon. It's a major improvement over the Anki spaced repetition code. Most of the addons on this video are working fine on the latest anki version, including the most important pitch accent addon. The Anki forvo addon has been updated.

    I don't like Japanese support very much. For furigana of individual words, Yomichan can add the furigana. For phrases, I like Japanese Furigana. It has an option to set the furigana using ruby code instead of []. It is also faster to use, you dont need to use tab. Just use the shortcut and it will add the furigana on any field. You shouldn't use any form of furigana on your main field, it will trick yomichan into thinking you dont have that word as a card. If you need furigana for the front of the card, make a new field and add it.

    The Japanese Support addon doesn't always seem to produce the correct reading for a word (at least in isolation). Do you know if it's accurate for sentences? Can this work for adding readings in bulk to other shared decks?

    • @JouzuJuls
      @JouzuJuls  Před 8 měsíci

      May I ask for examples of incorrect readings of words? I haven't had many problems with it. 99% of the time it's accurate. If there are just weird common words, it'll be worth noting in my guide video since I'm working on it right now.
      .
      Also yes, you can add readings in bulk to any deck.

    • @zecuse
      @zecuse Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@JouzuJuls On the addon page, a user noted that 1月 (expecting January) was given a reading of 1月[つき] (1 moon). I was still able to repeat this and could only get the January reading if I spelled it as 一月.
      That commenter and I only tried this with the word in isolation though. I didn't think to try something like 1月は寒いです in order to provide context to get an expected reading when some kanji could go either way. I'll have to wait until after I get off work today to try this on my computer.
      A quick check with the DeepL translator uses つき for the sentence 月の初めだ. I can try both of these in the addon later.

    • @JouzuJuls
      @JouzuJuls  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@zecuse Ah, that's totally normal. The addon is not smart and doesn't have AI, it just processes the readings by whether or not a dictionary has it.
      .
      The dictionary it uses probably doesn't have "1月" listed as an entry but does have "月" and "一月". This means it doesn't matter how much context you try to give it.
      .
      I would assume the same would be try for "1日" and "一日".
      .
      And on that note, words with multiple readings like 一日 will just use whatever default reading shows up first in the addon's dictionary. So in this particular case it could be "いちにち" or "ついたち".
      .
      Either way this is exactly what I mean by 99% of the time it works. This is the 1%.

    • @zecuse
      @zecuse Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@JouzuJuls Thanks. In terms of adding readings in bulk to a downloaded deck, without going through potentially 1000 notes, how would one know that the reading is correct for the sentence?
      I'm looking to use this to change the Reading field of cards in the "Japanese Core 2000" decks to use furigana instead of just being hiragana.
      I do have programming experience and am looking into making an (unrelated to this) addon, but I'm wondering if Japanese Support could simplify the edit process I'm trying to do.
      Worst case scenario, I think I might need to export the deck to another editor (I've read decks are technically Excel compatible) and update the fields that way to preserve the provided (what I'd assume is correct) readings. Japanese Support appears to interpret the Reading field with an easy to make format.

    • @JouzuJuls
      @JouzuJuls  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@zecuse This is quite simple to solve simply by looking at it practically.
      .
      If you have 1000 cards, you will have to review them anyway. So while you're reviewing, you can simply use your ears to listen to the audio and identify any discrepancies.
      .
      If you've already reviewed the 1000 cards and no longer need to review them anymore, there is no need to worry about whether it's right or wrong anyway since you won't see the cards in the first place.
      .
      It's simply much more efficient to solve small 1% of errors by editing them when they show up than to try to scower through a 1000 cards to find them.

      Excellent question! You're not alone, a lot of people have problems with Grammar.
      .
      I would advise slowing down a bit and actually spending some time to analyze the sentences, especially the ones you see on Anki. And just try to really understand what each particle is doing and why it's being used.
      .
      I would also recommend watching my video on the 3 core rules of Japanese grammar: czcams.com/video/E_aR2F05dEc/video.html

    little bit annoying.. presenting addons for anki 2.1 while 2.3 has been out for long..

    • @JouzuJuls
      @JouzuJuls  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I get you, blame software developers for making stuff just break on every update. (But then again addon developers are separate from the main dev of Anki so, what can we do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
      .
      Ultimately my goal is to present the best tools for learners regardless of when it came out. If Anki 2.3 is broken, buggy, and has bad plugin compatibility- I have no reason to tell people to use it instead of 2.1.49.
      .
      Until beautify, heatmap and the forvo plugin fixes itself for 2.3, I see no reason to not use 2.1.49 since it just works better!
      .
      If one truly cares about having the best tools to do the job, there is basically no reason to be using the latest version of Anki ever.

    • @shellgecko

      there's no version 2.3 new version pattern follow this
      year.month.patch (current version is 23.12.1), I don't know why developers did it but anyway I don't use latest versions either
      I find the 2.1.66 pretty stable and a lot of plugins work fine with this version

    • @JouzuJuls
      @JouzuJuls  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@shellgecko I think the only one in this video that wouldn't work on 2.1.66 would be the Beautify Anki addon. There's a chance you could try using Beautify Anki 2.0 (Which works on the latest version of Anki).
      But then you'd still have to deal with the bugs. (Clicking on a deck causes it to turn white, and the heatmap has inverted colors).
      Of course if you don't use that addon it doesn't matter ^^

      Yeah same, I just read the dev's blog post. He's saying that he will no longer be maintaining it so if it breaks in the future it won't get fixed. Until then you can install and use it as normal. I'll keep it for now since it works fine.

    • @JouzuJuls
      @JouzuJuls  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Exactly what the guy above said. If you already have it, you can keep using it. I have it too and I can keep using it. But I've already noticed some bugs like when I click on the extension, the toolbar doesn't display properly sometimes and I can't hit the settings button.
      .
      So I think it's good to take the time to install Yomitan since you still have Yomichan right now and can directly compare both of them to make sure you've transferred everything over 100%.
