I feel sympathy for Boc but at the same time his idea of being a master tailor seems to be someone who just removes capes from everything.
Except for when I got the Beast Champion chest, he added the cape for me.
u may not like it but that's what peak performance looks like
NO CAPES!!!
Remember what happened to Syndrome? :p
@@jamesnorman9160 but I need those couple extra points against slashing damage.
@@jamesnorman9160 Edna Moddex intensifies.
Boc is easily the wisest being in the entire series. He is the sole other being aside from the player who understands that fashion is more important than any other facet of the setting. The strength of spirit which allows one to carry on- the drip, sheer style. Truly, worthy of lordship.
Boc in Balinciaga
i want an extension to the quest where he makes an awesome armor set for the tarnished.... from scratch and finishes the last part of his dream
This absolutely has to be in the DLC.
Start a Petition and show it to FROMSOFT -
We could push the idea even further, stuff like boc asking you questions about armor types or certain preferences giving you the opportunity to unlock one of various sets, that will push you into doing his quest many times in the ng+ cycles
Yo that's sick. It would be just like how Hewg is finally pleased when he makes you a god slaying weapon
I don't care whatsoever about the stats I'll wear at least one part of bocs set forever
I personally think that Bocs mother is the dead demi-human mother that lies in Fort Height.
Kenneth Haight has an alliance with the demi humans, as we know, and I think before the Knights attacked Fort Height, Boc and his mother lived there.
Boc wearst the attire of a noble, can speak properly, and even is trained in the craft of sewing.
This gives of the impression that he was raised in a sophisticated enviroment.
Anyways, I think that Bocs mother died during the attack of the knights and Boc fled the Fort ultimately getting lost in Limgrave, seeking refuge by his primitive demi human bretheren in the coastal cave.
This is a really solid theory!
Not to mention he said prattling Pates voice sounded like his moms. Maybe if his mom was like 20 feet tall that might make sense.
I think the valuable thing he mentioned that he would take from the cave to give to youmight be the sewing needle kit.
I love this theory
I think Sellen turned him into a true! Did he throw shade on her drip?
You can find the “you’re beautiful” prattling pate on a unique demi-human corpse in a village occupied by demi-humans. And the item description of the prattling pate hints that it’s his mother’s voice.
He was one of the only characters who wanted us to truly become elden lord simply for the reason of believing in us. Not to influence the elden ring, or for his own purposes. He was just a cool guy
Don't forget Master Hewg! Broke my heart when he said my lord...
Even us dead many time
Boc is really too pure for the Lands Between. Unlike many other characters, his quest doesn't involve betrayal or murder or dabbling in things that shouldn't be dabbled in. He just wants to provide a service to the one person who showed him genuine kindness, plus I won't lie I did get a little emotion when he asked if he could call us 'Lord'.
I like to imagine if we become Elden Lord, he went on to help the Godskins to go straight and tailor clothes without using skin.
I don't know about you but there was a lot of "betrayal and murder" in that cave when I heard they beat up my dear sweet boy.
Actually Boc's quest can end in murder and betrayal if you kill him at the end....
(just kidding... don't kill poor boc)
@@hamsandwich5422 Considering that 99% of demi-humans in the Lands Between attack on sight, I just call that a Tarnished doing a Tarnished's work. Plus I count it as justice since they basically drove Boc out for being different.
Boc and Rya are too pure for the Lands Between.
Personally I found his request of us quite inspirational. He spends the whole game trying to live up to an imagined standard for himself so that he can feel like he's worthy of our praise and kindness.
But ironically, his belief in us as a kind hearted Lord gave me the same feeling of wanting to live up to his expectations. To be the kind hearted tarnished who used their power and strength to try and protect and help as many people as possible, and to set the world right for the unfortunate few like Boc
Boc is one of my favorite characters because his journey reminds me of something I went through during my teen years. I have a paralyzed vocal cord and throughout my life I thought my voice was a terrible curse thanks to bullying. I am close with my mother, much like Boc. I think it’s best to tell Boc that he’s beautiful, as he truly is. He’s one of the few souls in the world of Elden Ring who doesn’t try and absolutely annihilate our Tarnished. It’s good to have men like him. Men who are kind.
U are beautiful homie
Your a legend
i came back to this comment how lovely
God bless bro, and I think you're right Boc deserves to embrace who he is and embrace the love he deserves for being such a kind and gentle soul
Hey. I hope you’re doing OK out there. I’m so sorry for the bullying you went through.
I like the theory that Daedicar was Boc's mother, but the description of the Prattling Pate "You're beautiful" describes it as being in the shape of a Demi-Human head. All other Prattling Pates say they're in the shape of a Human head, and the "You're beautiful" Pate is the only one that specifically mentions demi-humans. This along with the fact that Boc recognizes the voice as his mother suggests it was molded to resemble Boc's mother, and she was likely a demi-human.
We considered this as well, but we think the demi-human shape is due to the pate being *intended* for a demi-human (Boc), not because it was created by one.
@@square-table-gaming But, if it is truly intended for Boc, wouldn't that lend more credence for his mom being a demi-human? The pate's shape resembles that of a Demi-human Queen's head far more than the common demi-humans. Plus, his mother is a seamstress, so whoever it is, they would have the craftsmanship to make it.
"You'll make just the kind-hearted Lord I would wish for."
Me: *on my way to bring chaos to the world* Yes, Boc. We'll be together. Everyone will.
LOL I was thinkin this too. If only he knew that all I needed left for platinum was this world of hell I'm about to plunge him into.
It all returns to nothing...
I had the same thought on my Frenzy playthrough. The single, piercing yellow eye peering out of the hole of my prison mask didn't make me feel any less sinister; I could almost picture the faint, soulless smile on my character's face. You ever make a character like that, that manages to unnerve you despite your control over them?
In my headcanon, every time he and my tired and battle-hardened Tarnished reunite, Boc's presence soothes my Tarnished's heart and he would fix the wears and tears on their armor. He will become a royal seamster when my Tarnished becomes Elden Lord. 🥺
It's a pity boc doesn't create any garment of his own to fulfill his dream of sewing something from scratch
My biggest regret I found out, was giving Boc the Larval tear because I loved him so much. But now, the world will burn in the flames of Chaos.
Lmao
Wild Unjustified Theory: Boc’s mom was the seamstress for the Godskin Apostles. Someone has to sew those skin suits.
Could still be related to Renala. But if he was cast as a tree. I think when the academy was decending into madness, she rebirthed Boc and he lost his memory a bit.
Making him think he was part of the demi-human tribe.
Far fetched, but possible.
Boc is the absolute sweetest. I was devastated when on my first playthrough I gave him the larval tear, I was pretty close to just uninstalling the game.
On my NG I really took notice how Melina talks about boc, more like pitying than anything else, but at the altus plateu grace she said something like Boc wants someone to tell he is beautiful or something like that, so there was a cue, a tiny one and easily missable, to use the prattling pete. So I actually got to tell him before entering leyndell and skipping the whole Im ugly demi-human dialogue.
On my first playthrough, I didn't give him the larval tear but went through his dialogue before finding the 'You're Beautiful' prattling pate. Boc went to Renalla and ended up dead anyways. 😔
Thankfully got the pate for the next playthrough and, after Melina reminded me, played it in front of Boc. He had survived since even after Lyndell burnt to ash. 😁
This game is nearly unprecedented in its voice acting, but Boc is by far my favorite voice. There's so much emotion in it.
I like to imagine, after we take the throne and order is restored to the land, some guards in the capital find Boc and attempt to execute him for being a demi-human, only for our tarnished lord to insist he’s the royal seamster
Nah bro
I'd be like: you touch a fucking hair on his head im going to turn your spine into a fucking sword you piss colored gormless galavating gits.
Boc is the most pure, beautiful, innocent being in the lands between. There is no malice in him, no judgement in him. Just humility, gratitude and adoration for the one person who treats him like an equal. It fucking broke me when i accidentally killed him. I thought i was helping. I didnt know man...i didnt know😢
Acidentally gave boc a larvel tear once, so luciky I promptly hit the power on the console before it could save, and saved my boy boc from becoming renallas victim.
He could be a model
Yo I was legit mad when I found boc all beat up in that cave. I prepped and went into that cave handing out fades to EVERYONE.
Boc is a rare character in any game that actually made me care about him. He had quite the development even though he’s just a simple secondary character. At first I rolled my eyes at him when I first saw him. By the time I got to tell him he was beautiful, I was thankful he got to live and didn’t want any harm to ever come to him like I saw of others in the game.
Just the title of this video alone makes u feel something .
Boc really is a true angel no matter human or not he will always be deserving of love and kindness
Poor precious boy! He has a special place in our hearts like Solaire and Greirat.
Awesome my boy Boc finally getting some love
He reminds me of the Chapel Dweller. He must be protected at all cost.
I feel like we aren’t done with his quest yet, he still has yet to Taylor full armors and there are a few missing armors in the game, grasss hair ornament, tattered armor, and the braves set so maybe one of those could tie into a future quest update
Boc is legit one of my favorite characters in the whole game. He’s probably the only humble person in the entire game i just wish he had more confidence
Never noticed the possible Daedicar connection. Nice spot!
12:33 "uh you just blabbered about Rennala and being reborn, it really wasn't difficult to guess" lol XD
Boc made me smile at the end of his quest :3
The one thing that I wish the developers did, was add Boc to your side at the end when you sat on the throne (assuming you picked a decent one and didn't nuke the world in chaos).
Hard to believe someone had a happy ending in a souls game.
I messed up and got a even worst fate for Boc, if you don't give him the larva tear and not tell him he's beautiful in time, I don't know what point of the game is the trigger, but he would end up dead outside of Rennala's Grand Library.
I wish we could turn him into a healthy VERY fluffy mice that wear a noble coat with his hat! 🐭🥰
Broc is baby! you must protect that sweet little boy
The timing of leyndell's music at 14:59 is perfect.
Thank you so much for showing us the good ending. This may be far-fetched, but I think the creator is trying to show us while death is a standard norm in this game, and inevitable for the most parts, you can always try to save innocents. It doesn’t matter how Boc might eventually end up, you can always try to do the right thing; at least that’s how I interpret.
I always wandered WTF turned him into a tree? What school is that!?!
A nice detail about Boc is the first time you meet him and second time in the cave he has nothing but clothes. But after he has a pack on his back.
crazy crack pot theory incoming.
Boc's questline mirrors the elden beasts origin story.
- Boc is introduced as a Tree that becomes a beast.
- he randomly came to his tree-place after being driven out from home -> elden beast also randomly appeared after being sent by the greater will
(I say randomly but looking at it geographically its at the foot of stormveil castle, godfreys domain)
- he gives us a mushroom -> golden erdtree might be a mushroom.
- he can weave the garb of gods after getting a golden needle -> elden beast wields a golden sword after getting a god (with scraps for garbs)
- he wishes to address us as lords -> elden beast has an elden lord
- he seeks rebirth but dies shortly thereafter -> reincarnation through the power of the erdtree (maybe power of the elden beast) makes people weaker
- Beasts are drawn to champions, and to lords (Beast champion armor set description)
If there is any merit to this I propose
- The elden beast being thrown out of its home
- the reason being that its too different
- One day as it travels the dead of space it happens upon the little lands between where it met godfrey
- something happened so that the elden beast wanted to repay godfreys kindness,
like he broke some spell that bound it to a tree or maybe something the giants did to the beast or whatever
this mirrors the way boc wants to retrieve the needle to become our seamster, the same way the elden beast could have retrieved the power of reincarnation from its home.
The seamster-job is symbolic of the evolution of civilisation and culture.
After all we trade stats for fashion and anlog to that did the warriors trade strength for civilization and care more about looks than deeds.
Boc's golden needle is elden beast's marika. An implement to weave the threads (of fate) of gods.
And it just so happens that the needle's royal crest is pointed out in the dialog too.
Boc also laments that he is not like his mother. "Who can create something out of NOTHING".
Which is like what we believe the greater will to be capable of, however the elden beast can only work with given material and it only comes out imperfect.
Interestingly this makes all depictions of motherhood full of kindness.
What's with the vaporwave thumbnail Boc looks like he's about to drop the sickest album the Lands Between have ever heard
its so sad, boc was my only loyal companion who spoke with me in my journey through the lands between, i wanted to do him the favor being rebirthed, i was speechless seeing the lifeless body in front of me after i just hoped to speak with him in his reborned body, i feel so sad, so sad i feel... :( im sorry boc may you RIP, i will do it better in the ng+ just for you i start the journey again.
And both of the children of Daedicar we meet are incredible sweet and kind
On my first playthrough I didn't know about the "You're beautiful" prattling plate. Eventually he died, due to my carelessness.
I was so mad about this, that I went on a rampage, killing everything that stood in my way until I could become the Elden Lord. I started a New Game + just because I wanted Boc to live.
I literally gave him the larval tear last night, I had no idea :-(
No boc, i wasn't trying to break the spell, I was going crazy thinking i was hallucinating voices or somthing, and just happened to hit you, but hey it all worked out
Bigger question is how the hell does Boc make it all the way to the debate parlor? Giant crabs, abductor virgins, and dozens of burger kings in his path...
The best NPC´s in this game are the few nice ones, Boc, Alexander, Rya as well as the Merchants.
the 'please wait' isnt from the player its from boc. conversations are activated by the player but the one talking is the npc so its common that theres a option to select things like 'i have somthing to tell you' but obviously the one telling is the npc
Boc is The definition of wholesome
I found that if you don’t give him a larval tear or use the “your beautiful” thing, then Boc eventually goes to Renalla and you can find him dead to the right of the door you enter when you’re first fighting her. Only found out because I went there again to help my friend fight Renalla and saw him there :(
He's not supposed to go to Rennalla if you use the pate. That may have been a glitch.
I mean boc i think is the same as hewg, misbeggotten/demihuman, all parts of the crucible. Makes sense he can talk.
I dunno why, but Boc reminds me of the Chapel Dweller from Bloodborne. Kind hearted, soft spoken, and deserves to be told that they’re beautiful, for they bear no ill will, only a desire. A desire to do things for others, which in turn gives them joy.
It seems like a huge leap to even conclude that Boc is half human. Based solely on what we're told Boc is demihuman. His mother was probably a demihuman too. I think they're perfectly capable of human activities like tailoring, most if not all demihumans wore some type of clothes for example.
I have a feeling that Demi humans current state has more to do with the demi Queens that currently lead them and the golden orders persecution of them than inherent nature. If anything Boc and his mother seem to imply that Demi humans are considerably more human than we are led to believe.
First time I did his quest it ended with him dying . And the whole time I thought I was doing good. I was legit sad. Damn you Miyazaki
I doubt Boc's mother was Daedicar. She just doesn't seem like someone who would form such deep connections with her children as Boc shows with his mother. Neither she seems like a person who would show such dedication to a particular craft so she ends up teaching her children it.
Boc is prob my favorite charecter in elden ring. Such a sweet soul
Great video! I"m not sure about daedicar, though I would love it if its true. I do think they have a quite simular way of behaviour actually. More polite than most others you met when adressing you with a simular kind personality and also both are extremely unsure about themselves at some point. It's a good theory!
I gave him a larval tear my first playthrough
I was *NOT* HAPPY AT WHAT HAPPENED.
I am binging your lore videos. Great job guys. They really are well done. You also have a fantastic voice for story telling.
Thank you! We put a lot of work into the channel so it's always awesome to hear people are digging it.
It may not be much but altering garments does actually help the player a little if they don't care about how they look fashion wise. A lot of time removing the accessory part of the garment reduces the weight of the item, so if you're really close to that light roll breakpoint or even just trying to get into medium roll range from fat roll range. Then sometimes altering garments can make that little bit of difference.
+ altering the garments does also change the lore text on some clothes, revealing something new to us.
Love the Elden Lore Videos! Just started playing Elden Ring this Month and only watching the ones that won't spoil anything of course.
While I rested at Sites of Grace on the Altus Plateau Melina would show up and comment on Boc about him being sad and that our Tarnished should talk to him to make him happy. And then Melina says something about Boc wants to someone to think he's beautiful. Then you come across the Voice Prattle thing with You're Beautiful. Stuff like this is just cool to me, better than being force fed stuff you need to do and when to do it.
I didn’t know it would kill him I gave him the larval tear poor poor boc
Unfortunately only those holding the great rune can survive their rebirth. That is unless Rennalla keeps rebirthing them over and over again.
Boc is true maiden
Is he voiced by the VA of Patches??? His voice sounds very similar.
Daedicar is the mother of all the man-serpents.
Definitely possible!
i would like to hug boc
I always like to think he acted like a mediator between the Humans and the Demihumans. The demihumans probably saw him as no different than humans because of his traits, and banished him for treason or something.
I will always love Boc.
Boc breaks my heart, he's one of the only good or innocent figures in this place. But the larval choice is a bit BS to me because folks like Rennala, Sellen, + many others can do powerful magick... so why can't anyone save him in his renewed form? As favor for finishing some other quest.
Luckily I didn't have a tear to oblige him, because If I'd returned to the library to find him dead I would've wanted to destroy Rennala and raze Caria Manor to the ground. 😓
It's because on the person with the great runes of the unborn can survive rebirth
I was hoping the "You're Beautiful" carving would help him get back to his senses after I thoughtlessly had him reborn, to no avail sadly
It would have been cool if when he was reborn - He would be reborn as a Fighter who could help You fight when summoned.
@@square-table-gaming Isn't that the rune we get from our boss fight with Rennala? Or is it temporarily ours for re-specing?
@@L8dy_Grae oh it's permanently ours. Our tarnished is canonically the only person who can be rebirthed without side effects.
Honestly I don't see the connection, and in my opinion at least the fact the "you're beautiful" face is said to look like a demi-human implies that whoever Boc's mother was she was a demi-human.
I never thought about it before reading the comment here, but a connect to Haight makes alot of sense, not only because of Boc's clothes and personality, but also the fact we find him on the path he would have took if he was trying to return to Haight's fort, having been kicked out of his clan seeking the place he grew up.
Me: I love Boc, you're a good guy my friend!
Boc: I love you, please an Elden Lord, you are already my lord! I feel that the tree is calling you.
(I burn the holy tree, the city is now dust and ashes, and boc disappears... sad plin plin plon)
I would love to watch a slice of life anime about Boc
I love Boc he’s my best friend in the whole game 😊
14:45 if anyone picked the other option ill personally hunt them down
Boc is the goodest boy!
I have a hard time believing Raya and Boc share a mother- Boc has so many anecdotes about his mom that just wouldn’t line up with a sexual heretic like the one described in deadicar’s woe
I wish we could teach boc more than the basic sewing he knows
Great video! In my first play through I accidentally gave him the larval tear and felt so bad after.
Also, what armor are you using?
Blaid armor altered and the red hood it seems
@@ecthelionalfa thanks
I think that the you are beautiful prattling pate is bocs moms head, since it is his mom's voice and it is the only prattling pate that is a demihuman head
I can never get him to do anything after the capital. Gotta look that up
No option to discuss rennalla and the pate does nothing?
@@square-table-gaming yep so weird 😐 gave him a golden needle once he was like cool..... lol
@@Drawnartist very weird... I know there used to be a glitch that caused this but after the latest update it shouldn't do that anymore
@@square-table-gaming after watching your video I see now that maybe I did a few steps outta order and now next time I can do it right. Game can be so strict sometimes. Love the game but some quests are so unnatural in how they need to be done. Like a guide is the only way to figure some stuff out it seems. I would never have gotten all the grapes for the blind girl on my own for example 😒
@@Drawnartist it is annoying, but it does make subsequent blind playthroughs keep a sense of discovery.
I think your theory has a lot of merit, especially since both rya and boc can speak common and have similar dispositions. Obviously since we know so little about these characters backstories it's impossible to say definitively. That would be a hell of a thing for the DLC to get into.
Mmh biggest hole in the theory that Boc's mama was a human is: all the prattling Pates descriptions mention the item being a misshapen lump of clay, shaped like a human head EXCEPT the one that says "You're beautiful", that one is described as being in the shape of a demi-human head.
So we actually think it's shaped like a demi-human head because it's meant for a demi-human. Definitely see your perspective though.
Not so sure about Daedicar being his mother. The prattling pate that says "You're beautiful" is the only one that is in the shape of a demi-human head as said in it's description and that the fact that where you get the item is located in a village pretty much over run with demi-humans and a big gigantic demi-human queen. His mother could in fact be demi-human in origin.
Interesting... I never considered Daedicar as possibly being Boc's mother, but considering how you find the "You're Beautiful" Pate, on Mt Gelmir, and it seems to carry the voice of Boc's mother, that kinda sounds pretty dead-on to me. Something I would have included in your video though is that Melina has a few lines talking about Boc if you sit at some of the Graces he's at. I think she's the one that hints at him just wanting to hear that he's beautiful iirc.
Finally someone that thinks Boc's mother was human too!
The other demi-humans must be able to talk, because they told Boc to leave the cave and never come back. They couldn't tell him that if they couldn't speak...
Boc is best boi.
I love him so mucn >.<
Forget Fia, Ranni, and Melina, Boc is real wife material 😏
Wait- So no wonder Rya is so sweet. If they're siblings, that must mean something.
Damn wont Boc be disappointed by most endings when you really become lord? franzy flame and Fia's ending end the world and in Ranni's you leave and leave Boc behind
Ratman boc is cute though.
Boc stole my tuna fish sandwich, so I ran him over with Torrent.
When he asked me to call me Lord I just wanted to tell him to call me oniichan :'( Really like this npc, so sad FromSoft could imagine an ending so depressing
Is that War, from Dark Siders ?
It is not! Ive gotten War and Slave knight Gael. Both awesome. Really I just like blaidds armor without the cape
His mom could be the same as Rya’s . The flayed women
Yup Daedicar!
@@square-table-gaming I guessed then u said it later in the video . So felt a lil dumb haha . Man I hope when the dlc finally comes out they involve miquella ,some new npc’s and maybe a new ending. Sekiro and elden ring need sequels.
Even if we stop him from comiting rebirth he seems to disapear once you turn Leyndell into the capital of ash or beat the game
He showed up again for me when I came back to that same room even with the capital full of ash.
