Oh man, let me tell you about my complicated relationship with Judith McNaught. She's got this incredible talent for creating strong and funny heroines, and the chemistry she writes between the main characters is off the charts. I mean, I'm totally here for that slow-burning romance and the hilarious antics they get up to.
But, and here's the big but, the endings always leave me feeling disappointed and wanting more. It's like she wraps things up too quickly, and I can't help but think she could have extended the story a bit longer.
And don't even get me started on the male leads. They just don't get it! They constantly misunderstand the female leads, give up on them way too easily, or even treat them poorly. Look, I'm all in for the angst, but what about fighting for your girl? Show her how you feel, grovel on your knees & convince her to be yours! That's what I'm looking for.
Let's talk about "Whitney, My Love," the sequel to "Kingdom of Hearts" (or actually, it's the other way around). I was totally into the romance between Whitney and Clayton, despite the significant age gap. When things got tough, I was excited, thinking, "Here we go!" But Clayton kept finding new ways to misunderstand Whitney, and it drove me crazy. Now, I'm not complaining about the toxicity, because, let's be real, I'm kind of into that. But when the apology finally came, it was over in a flash. And let's not forget that the groveling parts are always way too short in her books.
So yeah, you can understand why I'm a bit hesitant to dive into "Kingdom of Dreams." But I'm still eager to read "The Day of the Duchess," "Any Duchess Will Do," and "The Spitfire." I'm crossing my fingers that they'll give me the satisfaction I'm looking for without leaving me hanging at the end.
Oh, and by the way, I have to give credit to McNaught's short stories. They usually hit the sweet spot, with the right amount of everything.
