Another great detail is that Kojima was expecting a child and that child would partly be named after Ippo and Kojima's last name Hisato, using a combination of their Kanji which would be Kazuto (Kazuto or 一人, Ippo in Japanese would be 一歩, Hisato is 寿人)

The punch ippo took gave him brain damage which kept accumulating over the more fights he had which was the major reason why ippo lost to Antonio Guevara and Antonio he wasn’t using his defense to the best of his capabilities there were times he down right took punches to the face without weaving or blocking not only that he kept falling throughout the match with Antonio the coach should have noticed this but he was an reckless fighter back when he was an boxer too.

Though he'd throw it into the trash later. Aoki would talk to him after in a restaurant about why he did all that trash talking, and then gave him the gloves Ippo signed since he realized why the guy did it back at the arena.
