Agree, but I also have memories of trips to town taking a while because everyone wants to check the blacksmith and tweak their gear and it’s one at a time only 😂
Gonna give you a recommendation since I know you're not fully opposed to altering the game: BTDiablo mod has fully invigorated my love for D2 (it's playable in D2R) I don't typically care for, nor like modding, but BT has done something special by not diluting the game with new abilities or tons of custom items or new mechanics, but have instead added onto or meticulously altered mechanics to completely change the flow of the game to give you a surprisingly more authentic feeling diablo 2 experience in my opinion, including: Everyone starts with -199 MF and you won't receive blue, rare or unique gear until you're at -99 mf, which adds a ton of value to vendors and crafting. Believe you have -30% res across the board each difficulty so capping res is very difficult, which is somewhat alleviated by the fact that more pieces of your gear can roll socketed, including belts and quivers, but also throwing weapons. Tons of quality of life across the board: there's more stashes and they're 10x10 and the inventory has been extended to 10x8 to allow for a "charm inventory" Running and walking is the same speed, which means you no longer have to walk to have defenses or block. Built in loot filter, as well as item stacking for runes and gems. There's way more changes, too many to mention, but the things mentioned above are the only ones you'll most likely notice at the start, which means it eases you into the other stuff. Really can't recommend it enough, but it's not for the faint of heart, I would say it's at least twice as difficult as the regular game, getting to hell (now called insanity) is an endurance. Feel free to read up on the general changes on their wiki just to get a better idea of what's new.
I agree that the designs of the different elements of the game i.e. the bosses and the PCs themselves are really cool it just feels like they wanted it to look more like WoW which diablo deff is not. D4 is a huge upgrade back to the dark and gritty world that it is.
Yeah they went for a too bright color palette but the designs themselves are very well done. I like the stylistic choices on D4 more as well. But that game definitely still has some growing to do. I think they could get there though

I asked my friends, they are definitely up for more. I enjoy a d3 run every once in a while as well. It won't be as often as the diablo 2 videos, but there will be more diablo 3 :)
I have never played Diablo 3, but it looks quite fun when you play it in a party. I spent years playing Path of Exile and boss fights here looks quite easy :P Have you played PoE hc?
Boss fights used to be a lot harder but they made it easier with patches. We also had the difficulty pretty low because we just wanted to be chill with it. I have not played PoE hc. I've tried getting into PoE a couple of times but it's very overwhelming. When/if I go again I'm going to just use a guide, that might help.

Quite strange ;d PoE is overwhelming - no doubts. I just wonder if such a "crap build enjoyer" could figure out alone a build to finish campaign without dying :)
No you have 5 acts and it's done. You didn't miss anything. It does go into paragon levels after that but I don't really care about those. I can't. Not without knowing the game very well. I still die every once in a while in d2. Even after 20+ years. I will need a very big guide to retry PoE again. I might be able to do it after a few runs but I'd start softcore for sure
Now I want to play more Diablo 3!
